How To Select The Right Driver For Your Golf Equipment

How To Select The Right Driver For Your Golf Equipment

Article by Dean Caporella

Have you ever considered how important the driver is as part of your golf equipment? There is a propensity for less inexperienced golfers to go out and by the biggest and meanest looking club in the golf shop but if it doesn’t suit your style, mainly your swing speed then you will be heading off into the trees in search of your ball more often than not following a tee shot.

Golf equipment should contain a small selection of drivers and in this report, we’ll look at some of the aspects required in the make up of this all important tee shot club.

Golf Equipment-Analyzing The Driver

It makes sense, if a club has a larger head, then there is more chance of connecting to the ball in an area on the club head known as a “sweet spot.” Larger heads are a good idea for players with less ability as the margin for error during the ball connection is less. Better players are more able to get better control using a club with a smaller head.

It’s determined the advantage a club with the larger head has it’s ability to hold it’s line when striking the ball at impact. Smaller head clubs can have a tendency to “skew” off at the moment of impact requiring greater aim and control. More power is also generated behind larger clubs resulting in extra distance being generated when hit right on center.

Club Weighting

Weighting of clubs is a vital component of today’s clubs as players can adjust the height they hit the ball or control shots such as a draw or fade. Slicers eager to find a quick solution to their problem may go for a club with more of a draw bias and vice versa for a player who tends to hook a lot.

With a larger club head on a driver, the launch angle to penetrate greater distances is higher and golfers today are tending to steer towards this direction. A driver with a higher loft degree is highly recommended although if you are a beginner and receiving coaching then check with your mentor first who may be keener for you to build a little more control into your game before you start to worry about head design features on clubs.

Golf Equipment-The Driver Shaft

How flexible should the driver shaft be? This is a perplexing question for average players who seem confused by the give in a shaft. It’s reasoned that the more flexibility a shaft has the greater power behind the point of impact. This is true in a sense but be careful you don’t waste money here unneccessarily. Why? Because shaft flexibility should be in relation to the swing speed of a person’s swing. The slower the swing the more flexible the shaft; the faster the swing, the less flexible the shaft for better accuracy.

Working The Ball – Fade, Draw, High, Low

Working The Ball – Fade, Draw, High, Low

Although at times it seems like the golf ball when hit chooses its own flight path, this is not true the ball only responds to how it was hit. Was it hit by a square, closed or open club face, was it hit with 21 degrees or 34 degrees of loft, was the club head traveling at 80 miles per hour or 100 miles per hour. It is really all a matter of physics.

What if those different ball flights and the conditions that created them could be controlled? The good news is they can, and once you know how to create the exact ball flight you need for the shot at hand, you have many more weapons at your disposal to put the ball where you want it. The better news is it only requires small variations of the your regular full golf swing to create these shots.

These are the nine different ball flights you would want to know how to create;

Straight with normal trajectory, this is the shot you want to use if there is no trouble to avoid, you just need the ball in the middle of the fairway. Straight with higher than normal trajectory, this shot could be used if you had some obstacle, such as a tree you wanted to go over.
Straight with lower than normal trajectory, maybe you need to stay under some branches, or you want to keep it lower going into the wind.
slight movement to the right, highly skilled players who use this shot can control how much it moves to the right. Possibly the pin is on the right side of the green, you might want the ball to start at the middle of the green, but work to the right.
A fade with a high flight, might be used if that right pin placement is behind a front trap.
A fade with a low ball flight, how about trees with low branches in front of you and the fairway or green to your right.
Moving to the left this is called a draw, (again for a right handed shot) not to be confused with a hook, the draw is a controlled movement to the left and is said to produce the most roll.
A draw with a high flight, now the pin is to the left and tucked behind a sand trap.
A draw with a low flight, same scenario as the low fade, only you need to get to the left.

You see these shots attempted every week on the pro tours, not always as planned. Some of the players are not adept at creating all of these shots, those who are have more weapons to choose from.

Investing the time and practice necessary for learning to execute these shots as needed will make your game better and lower your scores. You will have much more confidence in your golfing ability, and be part of an elite group, not many recreational golfers are skilled at working the ball effectively.

Improving Golf Swing

Improving Golf Swing

Article by tommy golfswing

StanceStance is extremely important in golf. As you may have heard before, PGA (Professional Golfer’s Association) actually stands for Posture, Grip and Alignment. A stance in golf is very important because it involves two of these three keys for a successful swing and a lower score. If you’ve ever played golf before, you probably are aware of how important your stance is, but what you may not know is that you can actually alter your stance for specific shots. Why would you ever do this? Of course if you’re one of those golfers who always has a perfect swing, your ball is either in the fairway or on the green at all times, so your stance would never need to be altered if you’re behind a tree or in a sand trap because that never happens to you.Yeah right.Even the pros end up in the rough, in the water, or behind the trees. It’s just the nature of the game. In fact, one could argue that being able to play perfectly round after round would make golf boring to play. Unless you’re an advanced robot with a programmed, perfected swing that’s perfect every time an in any condition, then that is not you. There are several situations you may consider altering your stance, but to start we’ll look at how your stance should normally be. – Your feet should be a little wider than shoulder-width apart.- Your knees should be slightly bent- The ball should be aligned in the center of your stance, far enough away that you can reach it with the club comfortably. This is the standard golfing stance. My Golfing Life As A Hooker!

My Golfing Life As A Hooker!

Article by David Lee

This is a warning to all wannabe golfer’s,go down this path with your golf game i can guarantee you will live a life of pain and anguish, sorry i don’t mean to start on a negative note but the fact is it’s true.

Basically throughout my golfing career i have been a hooker, how or more importantly why it started i can’t explain. It certainly wasn’t intentional. When i first started hooking it was by no means every shot, the honest truth was that it just crept up on me,over days, weeks, and even months, the problem being it just gets worse to the point that almost every shot hangs towards the left, and not just a tiny bit either,oh no we are talking 90 degrees to the left my golf shots were making a circle look tame.

I spent a majority of my days in trees searching for lost balls,my friends didn’t want to play golf with me(i didn’t blame them to be honest)I can remember this day so clearly, the dreaded day i discovered i ran out of golf balls only during a round i hasten to add!.Talk about embarrassing.

I decided that i was long overdue in receiving professional help,i walked off the course that afternoon, and spoke to the pro in the clubhouse. He advised me that he had already heard about my problem, mmnn my so called friends had talked to him the previous day to find out if it was infectious of all things!.

However i began to cheer up after talking to the pro because there is a cure.Keap reading and i will elaborate

THE PROBLEM:

Hitting the ball with a closed clubface, causing shots to curve (sometimes dramatically) to the left.

THE CURE:

Ascertain your own grip, when gripping the club the Vs in each hand need to point over your right shoulder,if they are pointing further to the right your grip is way too strong, this will cause a closed face which will cause a ‘hook’ at impact-when your hands come back to their normal position.

You may find that your grip is good but you are still hooking,if this is you then weaken your grip by gradually moving both hands to the left.Your stance is very important so make certain your feet, knees, hips and shoulders are all parallel to your target line.

Another major cause of ‘hooking’ is the position of the ball itself having it too far back can produce an excessive in-to-out swingpath,to rectify this grip the club more in the palm of your hand, rather than your fingers, this will reduce the action in your wrists and premature closing of the clubface.

Always make sure that your left wrist joint isn’t to loosened up at the moment of impact,if this is the case your right wrist will take charge and consequently the clubface will close too early.Onto your downswing now,the action should always begin with your legs and body. This stops your wrists unhinging and closing the clubface too soon.

Can you see that this problem is curable folks?Well ok maybe not TOTALLY curable, after many years it still happens to me on occasions. But at least i don’t have to spend my golfing days stuck up a tree looking for lost balls,i am quite happy with my new title-The Happy Occasional Hooker!.

Perfect Your Draw Golf Shot

Perfect Your Draw Golf Shot

A good golf swing will not only lower your handicap, it will make the game more enjoyable.  Now that you have cured your slice and can keep the ball in the fairway most of the time, you can now start working on controlling the ball. Putting the proper spin on the ball will allow you to draw or fade your shots. Drawing the golf ball causes it to hook to the left and fading the ball cause it to slice slightly to the right.

If you have worked hard to develop a good golf swing so why in the world would you want to develop a hook or slice? Most golf courses have dogleg fairways as well as complex set of obstacles that you must navigate around. One way to accomplish this is to use a draw or a fade. For a right handed player developing a draw is much harder than a fade. This is due to the natural ball spin that develops as the club face strikes right to left across the surface of the ball.  The amount of spin is caused by how much the club face is open or closed as the hands release and the club face impacts the ball.

Controlling your golf swing to develop a good draw or fade requires a consistent good golf swing. Only with repeatability will you be able to confidently draw the ball on a left dogleg with your irons or hybrid. In order to develop a good draw shot you should use your normal address position, take a practice a swing to waist high through your follow through. Make sure that your arms are fully extended in line with the club shaft. As you look down the shaft your club should be pointed about 10 to 15 yards to the right of your target. If your target is obscured by trees or other obstacle then you will have to make a mental picture of your target location.  Most importantly you the blade of your club should be pointing up. Move your club through to the top of your back swing. As you do so will notice that your club has to move inside around your body. This will allow you to make your swing in an inside to outside move. Taking a couple of practice swings will allow you to gain a feel for the correct motion. Now address the ball and repeat your golf swing motion. As a result you should observe a left draw to the ball in flight.

Practicing this golf swing motion on the range will allow you to develop a feel for what it takes to accomplish the draw that your desire. One additional tip to increase your draw is to lighten your left hand grip pressure through impact thereby allowing a more rapid release which will give the ball more draw spin. Another trick is to slightly close the club face to add further draw spin.

Developing a good draw shot first requires that you have developed a good golf swing that is consistent and repeatable. Only then will you be able to step up to the next level of play. Remember to plan your practice with a clear objective. To avoid confusion it is best to deal with one objective per practice session. Keep a log of your practice and include details of techniques and their results. Always start your practice session by reinforcing the skills that let you develop your good golf swing. Remember golf is supposed to be fun and the better you play golf the more enjoyable your golf game will become.

LEARN HOW TO PLAY BETTER GOLF-SLASH YOUR GOLF HANDYCAP BY 12 STROKES WITHIN 2 HOURS

LEARN HOW TO PLAY BETTER GOLF-SLASH YOUR GOLF HANDYCAP BY 12 STROKES WITHIN 2 HOURS

Article by mark healy

Over the following page I will take you through my success tips to prevent on course disastersas well as real practical steps to slash your golf handycap

Here is what you do:

OFF THE TEE

Often a well positioned bunker can cause problems. If a hole shapes more to the left, the prefered shot is a draw.If you fade you risk finding sand.So the safe play is to hit a straight driver especially if there are trees on the edges.

THE APPROACH

You must control your approach and if you know how far you have to the pin that will really help. This might sound stupid but any doubts can lead to a tentative swing.Normaly having 100 yards to the middle and play for an extra 5 yards for an uphill slope is about right.

FACING CHALLENGES

Having a game plan that is sensible but a challenege for you is not easy to plan but essential for your own growth game. You need to know where the trouble is on each shot, but please do not get negative about it.Focus on where you want to hit the ball not on where you dont.

JUDGING THE WIND DIRECTION

Most golfers have no idea about calibrating to wind speeds and direction. At tree-lines course like bearwood be very careful of swirly winds. When learning how to play golf a good tip is to look at the weather forecast for the day and know where the wind direction is for that day before you arrive at the course. If your unsure take a look at the tree tops and not what the clouds are doing.

LAG PUTTING

The big tip with this is to hit the green on a par 3.Another good tip someone told me once is the “dustbin lid effect”, thats if you can get the ball within a dustbin lid of the hole from long range, you’ve done very well indeed.Ideally you want to get the ball past the hole and as it goes past you get a read for the putt back.

WEIGHT BALANCE DRILL

If you find that your most persistent miss is a shot thats drifts weakly to the right, there is a very good chance that you are not using your weight correctly. To rectify this let your left foot move towards your right at the top of the backswing. Then as you drive back down towards the ball you let your left foot step back into position.

DRIVE IMPROVEMENT

Often a lot of golfers with a golf handycap find that their swing is not as athletic as it could be which is costing you yardage and flexibility. The solution is to be very flexible, but many older golfers find that they arent able to make the athletic turn due their beliefs and age.One way of drastically improving your flexibility is by stretching before a shot and relax also as it could be tension in your upper and lower arms on swing.

Learning to play golf the right way will give you enormous personal enjoyment in your life and so I have put together a furthur free report at http://www.golf-mastersecrets.com which details:

1)The 3 hidden keys to improve your golf and play like a pro. This informations has never been revealed anywhere else, and these 3 hidden keys are gold to any golfer.

3)The ” down and dirty” on what it takes to create Elite golf game to catapult your game to new heights.

Would you like to learn how to play golf better and slash your golf handycap by 12 strokes and at the same time avoid those on course disasters. Here is a step by step guide to learning the ins and outs of doing just that and you can improve your golf in under 2 hours.

Is Your Golf Up To Scratch? – Part 2

Is Your Golf Up To Scratch? – Part 2

Let’s see how we can apply this technique throughout your game. OK, you’re standing on the first tee, choosing your line and there’s a persistent thought of “don’t hook it into the trees”. What usually happens when you’re thinking this? Yes…golf balls always do what they are told; you are thinking about hooking into the trees and you do exactly that. Yes, I know, I can hear you saying “BUT I thought DON’T hook into the trees”. Your inner mind does not pay any attention to the “don’ts” of this world.

Whatever you are thinking about you are giving energy to, and energy is transmitted out into the atmosphere and attracts exactly what you are thinking about into your life. This is the law of attraction. Put another way, as you are thinking “Don’t hook it into the trees” you are at the same time inadvertently creating a picture in your mind of the ball going into the trees and also attaching a lot of energy to that picture because you feel a bit agitated about it; and so the ball goes into the trees. In fact, the ball went exactly where you inadvertently planned for it to go. This is how talented your mind is. If you ever doubted the fact that 90% of golf is played in the mind, this phenomenon is undeniable proof!

What can you do to stop this happening? You can recognize that you are thinking about hooking into the trees, create a picture of it intentionally, then move that picture to one side, shrink it, drain the color out, crumple it up and put it in the bin; and then, create a big, bright, clear picture in your mind’s eye of the golf ball landing where you want it to, sitting up nicely on the fairway.

You can also use this technique of “binning the negatives” when you have played a less than perfect shot or missed a putt. Create a picture of it and bin it. Then re-run in your mind’s eye the perfect shot, or the perfect putt. This is a great post-shot routine to adopt, and extremely effective, because your mind will only be recording good golf shots, thereby making the likelihood of great shots more compelling, whilst at the same time literally erasing poor shots from your mind. Thus your golfing confidence builds more quickly and easily than ever, and as the title of Dr Bob Rotella’s book states “Golf is a game of confidence”.

Getting back to your New Golf Season’s resolutions and making them probable instead of possible, you should now have a clear, in-focus, bright and compelling picture of you achieving your golfing goals. This is vitally important because whatever you imagine you can create.

The next question to ask is what do you need to do to get to that point? What do you need to do physically and also mentally? From a mental perspective, the consistent application of the “binning the negatives” technique will transform your game, not to mention your life in general. You will be focusing on what you want to happen, rather than what you don’t. You will be aware of choosing where you want the golf ball to go and intentionally sending it there. You will now be in control of your thoughts and their resultant effect on the golf ball.

It’s also worth examining your thought processes whenever a shot doesn’t quite work out. Ask yourself were you thinking clearly and precisely? Did you picture what you wanted? Or was your focus drifting off at a tangent? Or did you simply stand up to the ball and hit it without planning? Or did you stand over the ball for ages with a myriad of thought competing for your attention?

I’ll wager a bet that 90% of your “bad” shots are caused by “bad” thoughts. Check this out for yourself. If your own statistics reflect this percentage, then it follows that you have the ability, you have the talent, to hit this percentage of your “bad” shots perfectly simply by being aware of your thoughts and choosing to think clearly. That’s got to be an easier way to get your handicap down than changing your swing, don’t you agree?

Your subconscious mind will always work towards a goal that has been visualized in your mind’s eye. Your energy is being directed towards it, whether that goal is long term (as in your New Golf Season’s Resolution) or short term (your next shot). You have the ability to use your mind to achieve your golfing goals easily and effortlessly. You also have to plan in a physical sense towards your goal; you’re not going to improve without playing, so you have to put the time in as well. You’ll not put time in unless you find that its fun, so make sure that it is fun.
