The same as the driver, the R11 fairway metals improve upon the R9 fairways by adding Adjustable Sole Plate Technology to Flight Control Technology in a new aerodynamic steel head that promotes faster speed for more distance.

The Flight Control Technology allows you to adjust the club’s face, loft and lie for each shot while the lower center of gravity will produce higher launches. This adjustable hybrid TaylorMade R11 Rescue looks just as good as it plays with a 4-degree face angle change, a 2-degree loft change, a 2-degree lie angle change and a 1,000 RPM spin change, meaning perfect shots from anywhere on the course. It has a new deeper face, which produces a more penetrating flight.

The white non-glare crown and black clubface (which provides easy alignment) will improve your game and that sleek white finish will make you the center of attention on the course and in the clubhouse. Compared to previous versions of these new hybrids, we really liked the look of this head at address. The white colour looked great and the small offset and longer head meant it looked very playable.

One of the best things was the excellent Adilia RIP shaft that is fitted as standard, although other options are available. This is a very stable shaft that is light and gives a great feel. The sound of the club at impact was great and the low centre of gravity got the ball up on a good trajectory.

Main Features:• Adjust the loft with Flight Control Technology (FCT)• 4 degree face angle change, 2 degree loft change, 2 degree lie change, 1,000 RPM spin change• Deeper face and lower CG for easier launch• White non-glare crown and black club face for easy alignment

The Basic Rules to Playing Golf

The Basic Rules to Playing Golf

The game of golf is not only physically but also mentally challenging. It is a strategic game that has many fans around the world. Golf is played by hitting a golf ball using golf clubs on an area called the teeing ground. Once the ball has been hit, it will travel along fairways and into the next prepared area, where a hole is found. This prepared area is known as the putting green.

Simply put, the target of the game is of course to put the ball into the hole in as few hits as possible. This means that a golfer has to complete the hole by hitting the golf ball from the teeing ground into the hole in the putting green using the golf club in as little strokes as possible. A round of golf usually means a play of 18 holes.

There are two basically two kinds of play in golf. In the match play, the winner is determined according to the number of holes lost and won. In the other kind of play, which is the stroke play, the winner is the golfer who uses the least number of strokes to complete a round.

In playing the game, there are two very fundamental rules to adhere to: Play the course as you find it; and play the ball as it is found.

Should the rules above be difficult for you to follow, keep in mind that you should at least play fair at all times. How do you determine what is fair and what is not? Read on and find out some rules which will give you a greater understanding on how to be a fair player in playing golf.

]]>

Basic Golf Courtesy

Do not stand, move or talk too close to a golfer who is about to make a stroke.

Play without any delay. Leave as soon as the other members in your group leave.

Try your best to play when everyone in your group is already out of the way.

Try to replace the divots as much as you can. And if you have walked into a bunker, don’t forget to smooth out all your footprints.

It is not advisable for you to drop your golf clubs on the putting green, so avoid it at all cost.

Rules to Playing Golf

Before you start on your round of golf, take some time to read the local rules which are stated on the scorecard that you hold. After reading the rules, it is a good idea for you to mark which golf ball you will be using, which will make it easier for you to identify it. Several golfers may be suing the same brand of golf balls as you, In this case, it would be easy to see which golf ball belongs to you.

Before you start, make sure you have counted your golf clubs. You are allowed a maximum of fourteen golf clubs.

When beginning the actual play, make sure you tee off in front of your tee markers. Should your tee off be a little bit off, or outside of the area specified, you may be asked to repeat your stroke. If this happens in a match play, then you are lucky as there will be no penalty for you. However, if this happens in a stroke play, then you are given a two-stroke penalty. That is why it is important for you to tee off in the specified area.

When you are playing, should your ball lie in a water hazard or a bunker, remember not to hit or touch the water or bunker in any way before you do your downswing.

The ball should never be spooned or pushed: it should always be struck fairly.

It is all right if you want to mark the ball that you are using. You could also clean your ball: just lift it, clean and put it back exactly where it was previously.

In the case of dropping a ball, the best way to do so would be to stand straight and to hold your golf ball at the length of your shoulder, and to drop it gently. Should you, in dropping the ball, happen to strike another player, the caddie or even yourself, you must drop the ball again. This is done with no penalty.

It would also be all right for you to pick up your ball if by doing so you would assist another player. On the other hand, you may also lift any other ball if that ball is interfering with your playing or another player.

By remembering the basic rules of golf as well as the basic common courtesies of playing golf fairly, you will make the game more enjoyable for you and others.

You Don’t Have to Be Bubba Watson or John Daly to Hit the Golf Ball 300 Yards

You Don’t Have to Be Bubba Watson or John Daly to Hit the Golf Ball 300 Yards

The average distance of the top 100 Golfers in the world is 280 Yards….these guys are the best players in the world and they aren’t hitting it that much further than the average golfer (AND the fairways on the PGA Tour are probably the same speed as most golf courses’ greens).

SO, what does this mean for you? Well, I’ve broken down the steps you can take that will instantly improve your driving distance. There’s nothing stopping you to averaging what the pros do!

1. Get a Driver with a Higher Loft

– My buddy used to have a 7.0 degree Driver (I’m not sure why exactly – maybe he thought it was cool) and used to average 270 yards off the tee. He switched to a 9.5 degree Driver and now averages 290+.

– A higher loft gives you more carrying distance and the same amount of roll; however, it needs to be fitted properly to your swing in order to reap the benefits.

2. A Driver that is Custom-Fitted

]]>

– Take the time to get your Driver fitted properly by going to a Golf Shop and working with a professional. If you can’t afford a new Driver or just bought one, still go and get the shaft optimized for your swing.

– By doing just this, you can gain an extra 20-yards overnight.

3. Having the Proper Setup

– Wide stance (just past shoulder width apart)

– Shoulders at an angle (back shoulder is lower than the front) allowing you to hit the ball on your upswing (higher trajectory = more distance)!

– Ball positioned off the front toe.

– Flare out your front toe (at a 45 degree angle – no further) forcing you to clear your hips and lower body more quickly. You’ll notice the difference.

4. Confidence

– Most of the time when golfers hit bad shots it’s because they are thinking too much about the mechanics of their swing vs. the execution or “emotion” of the shot about to be played.

– Focus on your confidence – meaning that in your mind, you know that you’re going to step up and hit it long and straight down the middle. You will consistently hit better shots doing this vs. thinking about how far to take the club back or to make sure you follow through correctly.

BONUS: Learn to Hit a Draw

– It’s a fact – a draw or hook travels further than a fade or slice. If you can learn to hit a draw you WILL add at least 10 yards to your drives.

– Close your stance, bring the club back inside, and fully release your hands.

– One thing to be cautious of is that a draw is more difficult to control than a fade, which means that the odd time your draw will turn into a hook (this happens even to the pros). My recommendation is to not hit a draw all the time, but to utilize it when you need a bit of extra distance.

How to Hit Your Golf Tee Shots Long and Straight

How to Hit Your Golf Tee Shots Long and Straight

The golf tee shot is your first shot on each hole out on the golf course. Typically, on par 4s and par 5s, you’ll hit your driver for your tee shot. Many golfers want to be able to hit the ball farther off the tee. Added distance with your driver will allow you to hit shorter irons into greens and generally help you score better.

One helpful tip for driving the golf ball farther off the tee is to setup up with your spine angle tilted slightly to the right. (Taylormade Burner Plus Driver) With the driver, you want to hit the ball sligtly on the upswing. Setting up with your spine tilted back will help you launch the golf ball high and give you more distance off the tee.

Setting up with your weight a touch more on your back foot can also be helpful with your driver. Play the ball all the way off of your left or front heel for best results. If you play the ball too far back in your stance with your driver, you’ll end up de-lofting the club even more and may have trouble getting it up into the air.

The pros on tour average 61% driving accuracy with hitting the fairways. The key with your tee shots is to hit it relatively close to the fairway so you are still in play and can manage a decent approach shot to the green.

Some people struggle with their driver off the tee and are even afraid to hit it. The reason the driver tends to be a harder club to hit is because it is longer and there is the least amount of loft with this clubhead. (Odyssey White Hot XG Putter 2009) The more loft the golf club has, the higher it will go but it the golf ball won’t go as far.

You need a proper stance and ball position to learn how to drive a golf ball straight. According to Tiger Woods, there are two reasons golfers do not know how hit the driver straight off of the tee box. He says golfers either place the ball too far back in their stance and/or too far away from their body. Bottom line, you need to have a proper golf stance to learn how to hit a tee shot straight and drive the ball like Tiger.

Let’s discuss how to get the ball the proper distance away from your body. This is essential to learning how to hit a golf ball straight off the tee box.

1. Your grip should hang beneath and slightly forward of your shoulders at address.

2. Any further forward and you are likely to have a pronounced inside to inside swing that will lead to strong draws or hooks.

3. Any closer to your body and you will tend to have a pronounced outside to outside swing that will lead to strong fades or slices.

many golfers have trouble figuring out how to aim a golf shot. You should aim a drawn line on golf ball down the target line. This ball then help your body align from top to bottom starting with your golf foot position on up to your golf shoulder alignment. It also helps you with your golf club head position at address.

Then, during the setup you can place the golf club so that the aiming mark on the driver, wood or hybrid lines up with the drawn line on the ball. (Mizuno JPX Fairway Wood) Then you can know that my club is aiming down the target line.

This is essential to learning how to drive a golf ball straight. Really, it is an unfair advantage for any situation where you can place the golf ball before you hit it.

However, master your driver and you’ll take tons of pressure off the rest of your golf game. It’s a whole lot easier playing from the fairways than it is playing from in the trees. When you’re hitting from the fairways, you’ll tend to hit more greens than you would from out of the rough or not in the fairway. Get some basic driver fundamentals worked into your golf swing and start playing better golf today.

Perfect Your Draw Golf Shot

Perfect Your Draw Golf Shot

A good golf swing will not only lower your handicap, it will make the game more enjoyable.  Now that you have cured your slice and can keep the ball in the fairway most of the time, you can now start working on controlling the ball. Putting the proper spin on the ball will allow you to draw or fade your shots. Drawing the golf ball causes it to hook to the left and fading the ball cause it to slice slightly to the right.

If you have worked hard to develop a good golf swing so why in the world would you want to develop a hook or slice? Most golf courses have dogleg fairways as well as complex set of obstacles that you must navigate around. One way to accomplish this is to use a draw or a fade. For a right handed player developing a draw is much harder than a fade. This is due to the natural ball spin that develops as the club face strikes right to left across the surface of the ball.  The amount of spin is caused by how much the club face is open or closed as the hands release and the club face impacts the ball.

Controlling your golf swing to develop a good draw or fade requires a consistent good golf swing. Only with repeatability will you be able to confidently draw the ball on a left dogleg with your irons or hybrid. In order to develop a good draw shot you should use your normal address position, take a practice a swing to waist high through your follow through. Make sure that your arms are fully extended in line with the club shaft. As you look down the shaft your club should be pointed about 10 to 15 yards to the right of your target. If your target is obscured by trees or other obstacle then you will have to make a mental picture of your target location.  Most importantly you the blade of your club should be pointing up. Move your club through to the top of your back swing. As you do so will notice that your club has to move inside around your body. This will allow you to make your swing in an inside to outside move. Taking a couple of practice swings will allow you to gain a feel for the correct motion. Now address the ball and repeat your golf swing motion. As a result you should observe a left draw to the ball in flight.

Practicing this golf swing motion on the range will allow you to develop a feel for what it takes to accomplish the draw that your desire. One additional tip to increase your draw is to lighten your left hand grip pressure through impact thereby allowing a more rapid release which will give the ball more draw spin. Another trick is to slightly close the club face to add further draw spin.

Developing a good draw shot first requires that you have developed a good golf swing that is consistent and repeatable. Only then will you be able to step up to the next level of play. Remember to plan your practice with a clear objective. To avoid confusion it is best to deal with one objective per practice session. Keep a log of your practice and include details of techniques and their results. Always start your practice session by reinforcing the skills that let you develop your good golf swing. Remember golf is supposed to be fun and the better you play golf the more enjoyable your golf game will become.

Reasons Why Hybrid Golf Clubs Can Foster You To Perfect Your Game

Reasons Why Hybrid Golf Clubs Can Foster You To Perfect Your Game

Golf club makers have done another wonderful innovation in the name of hybrid golf clubs. They are one of the golf clubs that are commonly used by many golfers these days. This type of golf club makes wonders on how easy to hit a golf ball.

The name hybrid golf club is derived from the combination of two types of golf clubs, the iron and the fairway wood clubs. The good features of each club such as the long distance hit and the perfect swing are all combined in hybrids.

With hybrid golf clubs, golf players are can enjoy both the ease of long ball trajectory and the swing for good target.

Internal weight distribution of the hybrids is strategically well distributed. In return, the golfers are able to hit the ball airborne in straight path consistently and with higher accuracy.

Unlike the long iron club wherein the center of gravity is located near the club head, hybrids center of gravity is located more towards the end of the head. This change results to the increase in momentum of impulse as the ball is launched

In some cases, the type of golf club you use depends on your golf skills but with hybrid golf clubs it is a different story. This is because anybody who plays golf regardless of his skill can enjoy this piece of art. They are even more popular with less experienced golfers because of the ease they provide in hitting the ball.

Hybrids are also designed with almost identical head as the fairway woods with convex face made of either hollow steel or titanium. However hybrids have shorter shafts than the fairway woods. They are also designed just like the long irons in terms of lofts which can vary from 16-20 degrees. They also have an additional runners or trails that make these clubs ideal to use in roughs, sand or short fairways.

In conclusion, the use of hybrid golf clubs offers a lot of advantages to any type of golfers. If you want to enjoy them yourself, then get a hybrid golf club now and experience how precise and accurate your hits can become.

Memorial Lessons From Tiger

Memorial Lessons From Tiger

Article by Charlie G Wallace

What a stunning performance from Tiger Woods at the Memorial event in Ohio on Sunday. Four strokes off the lead at the start of the final day, Tiger blazed his way to the top of the leaderboard and then held off challenges from both Jim Furyk and Jonathon Byrd to win his fourth Memorial title.

I watched the closing holes from about the 14th and saw Tiger taking out the opposition with a birdie on the 18th hole after a brilliant approach shot. He is definitely a man for the big occasion and big events and he instinctively knows when, and how to apply pressure on his opponents.

I know there are some who don’t like Tiger, but I am a big fan. We are lucky enough to be witnessing one of the best golfers ever in Tiger and one just has to admire the way he plays the game.

What can we learn from Tiger’s performance that could be useful to our games as golf beginners or seasoned players?

There are three things that stand out for me about Tiger on Sunday;

1. His desire to win2. His ability to get the job done, and3. His phenomenal success rate off the tee in the final round.

Just focussing on the third of these, Tiger hit the fairways on every occasion he was required to. 100% fairways in regulation and the TV commentators (which included Nick Faldo) rated his final round as one of his best ever.

If you’re anything like me, consistency off the tee is more of an aspiration than a reality. I do sometimes get it right and sometimes my drives are OK, but I’ve a tendency to hook and slice and I usually have some of each in the course of my rounds.

I always have a smile when I see the pros spraying their drives left or right. It reassures me that even the best can do it, and of course, Tiger is no stranger to these errors. In recent times he has been guilty of them quite often.

Some pundits reckon that he attempts to hit the driver a lot harder in tour events than he does in practice. He doesn’t take his practice drives to the course when he plays in competitions. By all accounts, he did on Sunday. He wasn’t thrashing the drives and consequently he ended up on the fairway every time he needed to.

This tells us two things;

1. That it is important to identify and recognise important elements of our games that need correcting;driving, approach shots, pitching, chipping or putting and doing something about them, and

2. That controlled drives off the tee landing on the fairway will (should) produce a better round of golf and lower scores. [The corollary of this, of course, is that the controlled shots practiced on the range are the ones we should use on the course. There is no point in learning and practicing to do something and then doing something else when you take your game public.]

After my game at the weekend I know that my putting let me down, and if I had landed on the fairway more frequently, I could have shaved 5 to 7 shots off my score. Something to look forward to next time, hey? There’s always something that keeps us coming back.

Is John Daly Good or Bad for Golf?

Is John Daly Good or Bad for Golf?

Article by Corrie Nel

Big Bad John is finding his way through the ups and downs of life. Sometimes he ends up in the media for the wrong reasons.

Ever since John Daly hit the major circuits he has been in the news for various reasons. Sometimes for the wrong reasons, based on his personal life.

Big John is in the unfortunate position that he is a high profile sporting giant. This means that his private life is privy to all and sundry. With all respect to the media, printed and otherwise, the bad, or should I say sad, side of his life gets a lot of attention. It is utter sensationalism, but that is what sells in the media business.

It seems like John is in the press more for negative reasons, than his skill on the golf courses of the world, which he has more than his fair share of.

He entertains crowds by hitting a golf ball crazy distances, even with his putter. Unlike Tiger, the ultimate technician and strategist, John throws caution to the wind by ripping his driver enormous distances, where angels fear to tread. Then he proceeds by displaying unbelievable touch on and around the greens.

John is often seen during coverage to bend over, pick up his cigarette and to walk off into the sunset after his golf ball. Not the image to expose youngsters to. But then, John has never claimed to be the ultimate role model.

The big man is known as the regular party animal, not adverse to consuming large quantities of brewed beverages in relatively short spaces of time. Smoking, drinking and a good measure of domestic uprisings is just a natural part of him.

When you are exposed to the masses the way sporting celebrities are, this type of behavior just does not make for our perception of sporting greats.

Then Big Bad John hits the fairways of the world, and guess what? We are still in awe of the man who, I believe, can win anything whenever he wants to.

I watched him during the recent USPGA Championship. No, I watched the crowds. They still love him. They still watch in amazement as he goes about his business the only way he knows. Nobody cares about the press and whatever goes wrong in his life. They just want to see John Daly do what John Daly does best and only John Daly can do!

Good or bad for golf? That is debatable. The fact remains he still pulls the crowds and wows them with his brand of golf.Long live John Daly – we need our own characters in golf and you are one of them!

Love him or hate him, international golf will be a little duller without him.
