What is there to like about golf?

What is there to like about golf?

Article by John Daniels

What is there to like about golf? I cannot answer this question as to me it is a good stroll interupted. I do appreciate the level of skill involved in putting, or driving, however there is so much dead space in between anything happening, that it amazes me it is followed by spectators the world over.

I have played golf many times in my life. I admit not to a high standard. My motivation for playing was always to talk business with others who were obesessed with the game. My clubs were all brough from charity shops, which meant they cost a grand total of £55. This was very amusing to the guys would play golf with. I would pretend they were borrowed from friends, but they seemed to guess I had bought them on the cheap. Whilst playing I often wondered quite why a game too so long to just put a ball in eighteen different holes. I was informed that there is plenty of time to talk, so socially there is great value to the game. Why not just go for a walk then? You are not allowed to talk whilst shots are taken, so the social side of the game, something that draws many to take it up, can only happen whilst walking around, silly club bag in tow.

Walking is great exercise. Low impact, and very good for the breathing and the heart. Why then do so many people, who look like they need a bit of exercise, drive round the courses in buggies? If golf is there as a part of their exercise regime, where is this exercise coming from? The golf swing? It does make me laugh as I see over weight ladies and gentlemen driving themselves around in golf buggies, hopping out for their shot, then back into the buggy fifty yards down the course. Wouldn’t they benefit from some of that exercise?

Another thing that bothers me is the lack of excitement for most of a game. So little happens. I admit I understand that a great putt, or even a hole in one, can be deemed exciting. How often does that happen in a game? How does such a boring sport entice so many spectators, and have so much money running through it? I did a lot of business on the golf course, and that buainess was done whilst walking between shots and holes. That business, however, could just as easily have been done in a bar, or restaurant. I could even have done it in the office, where all my pens, paper and computers all resided. Thanks to golf I had to try and close accounts dodging rain, and furiously making notes on a mobile phone.

I have no problem with golf being popular as each to their own. I just do not understand it’s draw. Walking around with a bag of clubs, for those that can be bothered. Driving around in a little battery cart for those who don’t fancy the walk. Occasionally stopping to drive or putt. Then more walking and driving. Maybe if there were only three holes it would be more bearable. I believe that people play golf because they think they have to to fit in with their particular social class. I cannot believe that a game so dull would be able to last and grow, unless it was due to people playing it to fit into a particular social group, or class. Golf is a good walk ruined in my opinion. I know that is an old quote. But to me it is so obviously accurate.

Golf Swing Basics – The Process of Golf

Golf Swing Basics – The Process of Golf

Article by Harris Franks

The game of golf is learned in small and simple steps one at a time. There is no such thing as a perfect golf game. It is not learned in a day, a week, a month or even a year. It takes years and years of practice to perfect the golf swing basics. This is what makes it a beautiful game, it will always challenge you to improve. Every course provides a different set of challenges and no one has the same golf swing. To make quicker progress in the game, there are a few important tips that will reduce your handicap. Some golfers overlook the simple elements of golf, this is why they become increasingly frustrated with the game. Here is what I’ve found has helped me with my game. You must keep these three really important steps in mind the whole time you are playing.

Keep your head still – any slight movement will cause you to move your eyes away from the ball and this will cause you to not make full contact with the ball.Keep your club head traveling in a straight line while in contact with the ball – Seems simple, but don’t put too much power into your swing otherwise this will cause your muscles to tense up and will cause the club head to move out of line with hitting the ball.Relax your muscles – if your muscles are tense then this will cause you to divert all the energy needed for your swing away from it.If you’re head is still then your eyes stay on the ball. It may seem the most simple thing but you have to see what you’re trying to hit! A lot of my friends have been surprised at how effective this simple step improves their golf swing basics. You can spend ages trying to find a golf slice cure but all you simply need to do is to keep your club head travelling in a straight line while it’s in contact with the ball. It really is that simple. In order to achieve a straight line with your club head you just need to relax. You may think this sounds easy to do but in reality, if you’re not confident with your swing then you tend to tense up. If you just focus on relaxing your muscles before, during and after your swing then your confidence in it will increase. Relaxation will also help your balance. You must stand comfortably so you can reach the ball easily. The muscles which twist the body around will add force to your swing. So it is really important that you keep your arms relaxed.Learning golf swing basics can be a very fun and rewarding process and you shouldn’t let little obstacles distract you from achieving it.

The Mysteries OF Golf

The Mysteries OF Golf

Article by Sorah

Your ball is not always enough solid and stable? Often playing thick or thin it? Friends tell you the ball head to keep down, or the body should be transferred? Follow these recommendations, but not to play ball. You must be so very frustrating for golf, I feel there must be something to play the “secret” you do not find, let Jeff tell you this “mystery.”

Jeff Rockland

Started to learn golf in 1972

Australian PGA member since 1983

29 years teaching experience

Celebrity foreign PGA Teaching Center City Coach

Jeff has that golf is a “secret” of the movement. The secret are very clear, and can naturally do for those good players. General golf coach this mystery described as “lag.” That the “lag” in the end means? Jeff believes that “lag” can be defined as “drag” or “left behind.” Golf’s Secret is the “ball with both hands until the moment the club driving ability.” In other words, the head lags behind the hands.

Now, Jeff will take you step by step reveal the “mystery.”

Maintain the club head behind the golf swing is the most important foundation. If there is no head lag, and other swing base, such as grip, stations, targeting, there is no importance at all, when playing golf, can not go to management. Swing play different people, even non-standard, but any effective golf swing has one thing in common: (for right hand golfers) at the ball, the outstanding player of the left wrist is flat, or out bend goal, and right wrist bent inwards, bending force, while vigorously squeezed right index finger.

Now we look at good players near the ball when the situation. We can see the shaft leaning forward (toward the target), hands in front of the ball and the . This effectively reduces the club face angle; the 6-iron is reduced to 5 or 4 point. Drive head with both hands touch the ball; violently inclined face squeezed the ball flying out the next form the best flight trajectory, the maximum distance and the best stability. Now you should be able to understand why the PGA player hit the ball with remarkable skills in the.

In contrast, ordinary player touches the ball, the hands behind the ball, the shaft or vertical or tilted back, wrist action errors (Figure 2). This increases the club face angle, the 6-iron was increased to 7 or 8 point. Have not encountered all of the iron is always complaining about his playing the same distance from the people? When they touch the ball with both hands behind the ball, the shaft tilted backwards.

Has a double meaning behind the head, not only refers to the drive head with both hands, but also refers to the initial bar in bending the shaft. Hands down the initial strength of the swing shaft bending. The average delay the formation of a stable head acceleration to ensure the controllability of the distance – the magnitude of the next bar, any slowdown would undermine the club head lag. Therefore, we need speed up the ball continuous to ensure the acceleration of the head to behind.

If you think that as long as the practice field hundreds of hard hit on the head behind the ball will be able to master the skills, then I am afraid I have to say you farther and farther away from success. Reason is that golf is actually very light, just 1.62 ounces, when the pole touches the ball facing the role of only 1 ms. The role of the head end of momentum, the players have been sent to bar, unable to feel what happens when ball. If the players were effective practice and learning, there must be some feedback and results. Package is recommended to practice hitting. Can make the club head hits a stop after the ball (Figure 3,4), so that players with taylormade burner superfast 2.0 driver feel the correct ball position, which is driving the head with both hands, flat left wrist, right wrist bent inwards.

Finally, there is a suggestion. Although today there are a lot of information on golf swing – materials, DVD, etc., but ordinary players in the game it is difficult to improve. If your goal is to golf in his own ability to play all out with taylormade r11 driver, you should find a PGA-certified expert coach. In learning the golf swing based on the most important when there is nothing more than “hands-on” experience to teach the better.

How To Play an Intelligent Game of Golf

How To Play an Intelligent Game of Golf

Article by Martin Romano

Golf is a sport that can be so challenging. It is a game played with strategy which requires a combination of physical effort and mental intelligence. If you think golfers just look beyond the landscape and hit the ball at random then you are wrong. This is a game wherein the player wins by putting the golf ball in the designated hole with the least number of strokes. That sounds easy but once you get on the fairway it can get very difficult and frustrating.

Golfers love the sport because it involves a lot of exercise like walking and twisting of the body. It is also mentally challenging thinking of how to drive the ball into the tiny hole you can see only from a distance. You have to calculate in your mind factors like distance, wind speed and the number of strokes it will take to achieve your goals.

Seasoned players took years to perfect their games. They did not just learn on their own. They also sought the help of other golfers. You can do some self study as well. You can get free information on the internet on how to play an intelligent game of golf. You can read articles and comments from other players where you can get sound advice on how to improve the quality of your strokes. There are also books offered on line that can help you with making the mental strategies you would need in playing the game.

Books like “Finally: The Golf Swing’s Simple Secret” written by JF Tamayo and “Zen Golf: Mastering the Mental Game” authored by Dr. Jose Parent, a PGA Tour Instructor are very effective reading material that can help you improve the way you play. It teaches you a new level of approach on how to play this sport. These books are offered and sold at http://www.IndoorGolfNets.org.

How to Improve Your Game of Golf

How to Improve Your Game of Golf

Article by Robert Cummings

There are numerous ways of improving your game of golf but first of all you need to know your weak points, enabling you to concentrate on improving them. However, as a beginner, this is not always so straightforward.

This is because you cannot actually see yourself when you strike the ball and it goes off in the opposite direction to where you intended it to go. This is where having a professional trainer or an experienced partner with you can help you immensely as they can observe your body movements and point out just where you are going wrong. But if you are not lucky enough to be accompanied, don’t despair, just simply take a video camera long with you and film yourself taking the shots you feel you need to improve on.

This is a great way of learning just what you need to do to put things right because you can play the video back as many times as you need to study your stance and the angle and speed at which you hit the ball.

If you have access to the Internet, why not do a search on golf techniques. You will discover many sites offering free training videos with professional players showing you how to do it the proper way.

So now you know how you should be doing it, take another look at your personal video, taking things a little at a time you will spot just where you are going wrong. It may be something as simple as the fact that you are not gripping your club correctly or misalignments in your stance at the end of your swing shot.

Now all you have to do is put this newly discovered information about how you should be playing the game into practice. Using your video camera again, act out the process of the good techniques you have just seen and record yourself again. I can hear you asking the question “WHY?” There is a good reason why this procedure should be followed and this is because things do not always feel the way they look.

Each and every one of us has physical limitations based on conditioning which is the reason why we practice. Our bodies have to be taught how to perform in the correct manner by putting our muscles through training and stretching exercises.

An example of this would be if your shoulders are tight. It may feel that you are drawing the club back to the height it should be when in fact it could be quite a bit lower than it needs to be for you to make your shot correctly. This is the main reason why recording yourself works well. You need to link up the visual and the kinesthetic forms. Once this is clearly in your mind you will no longer need the video recordings to help you.

Use a clear approach to connect the whole process to programming methods by describing the shot to yourself in a positive way.

Something along the lines of saying to yourself “draw back the club by twelve inches, imagine a line from the ball to the hole and swing with medium force in a fluid motion” works so much better than simply saying “don’t forget this time to aim and hit the ball a little less hard”.

Your subconscious mind does not comprehend negative commands. In fact, it works in the opposite way, so when you say “don’t forget this time to aim” it translates as “forget to aim” and this is exactly what you do.

Last but not least, we should mention pacing. Would you say it is better to work on one shot at a time or many shots simultaneously? In my opinion, if you are not yet advanced in your amateur game, it may prove more beneficial to work on multiple shots, thus improving your overall technique. It is advisable to get your posture and grip right from early on and then you can perfect the finer points of your game such as individual shots.

Video May to Improve Your Golf

Video May to Improve Your Golf

Article by Aaliyah Green

Today, golf game can be an amazing sport around the world and you can now learn to play this game. It is wonderful if you can to take up golf game, but sometimes it is difficult during a busy career to obtain the time to play.

If you are a golf beginner, do you have a problem with your golf swing? Improving your golf game can be very tiring and tedious, not to mention frustrating. It’s the one sport that offers so much, yet can deliver so little. But it is without doubt the most addictive and sometimes the most rewarding too.

In this article, I would like to recommend a way to improve your golf game. If you want to know more golf tips, you may visit my golf blog to read the article – Recommend A Way to Improve Golf Game.

At first, let us know the basic information about golf game. Golf game can take anything up to 2 hours on a 9 hole golf course and more than 4 hours on an 18 hole golf course This often puts younger people off as to become proficient at anything you need to put in regular practice and often long careers prevent people from doing this.

In 2005, I began to learn golf game with my liking callaway x22 irons. I spent the first few weeks on the golf range having a few lessons trying to learn the various techniques. It seemed to take me a lot longer putting theory into practice successfully and the odd success I had on the golf range seemed to go to pieces once out on the golf course.

Unfortunately due to an old sports injury I needed to give up playing golf for most months and when I eventually could play once again I discovered I had almost forgotten everything I needed learnt and had to go back to the very basics yet again.

One of the things I found really helpful was having someone take a video of me while I was playing golf. Then replaying the video I was able to see exactly where I was going wrong. And there certainly were a number of mistakes I was making.

Although I had often been told that I was swinging the club incorrectly, or not finishing off my shot properly it wasn’t until I could actually see myself on the video that it became clear to me.

You only need to video a couple of holes as each hole will probably take a few shots using different clubs in different situations. Hopefully the consistency of your improved scores will tell you that you are making improvements but seeing yourself on video can show you exactly how you have progressed.

The latest and greatest irons from PING Golf

The latest and greatest irons from PING Golf

Article by Enjoymygolftwo

When it comes to golf equipment innovations, PING has left an indelible mark during the last 40 years or so. From the dawn of the cast cavity-back, to the advent of the heel-toe weighted putter, many of the equipment innovations that exist today are only because the folks at PING Golf thought them up. And while many of their designs have been tinkered with, tweaked and morphed into different iterations by different companies, PING’s own brand has seen its fair share of advances, too. In fact, the latest batch of new irons from the company is, in our opinion, the best we’ve ever seen.

Ping K15 Irons

The standout feature of the new K15 irons is the titanium-face insert, which increases ball speed for longer hits both on and off the sweet spot. Furthermore, the K15 set comes equipped with at least two hybrid iron replacements (3H and 4H), but can also include a 5H and even a 6H mixed into the set. A smart move, considering most golfers these days would rather hit a streamlined hybrid than a clunky, oversized iron.

Bottom Line: This iron/hybrid combo set will cater to higher-handicappers who need an extra boost of forgiveness, trajectory and distance with all their shots.

Ping G15 Iron SetMore perimeter weighting equals more distance and forgiveness, two things that the G15 has over the previous G10 models. Now, that’s not as though the G10s weren’t forgiving. If anything, we can only deduct that G15s must be extraordinarily playable. We also dig the no-nonsense, classic shaping and size, which will no doubt appeal to the type of player who wants to maneuver the ball in the air from time to time.

Bottom Line: The Ping G15 Iron Set are ideal for the player who wants a lot of forgiveness in an iron that has some shotmaking capabilities, as well. Mid- to high-handicappers are the target market here, and PING has hit the bull’s-eye.

Ping Anser Forged IronsA forged iron from PING! It’s been more than 40 years, and judging by the looks, feel and performance of the new ANSER irons, it seems as though they’ve spent all of those 40 years refining what’s arguably the best-looking iron PING has ever made. In addition to being forged, they’re also a mixed-metal design that uses a steel body and face with a tungsten sole. This means a lower CG for more forgiveness and higher-launching shots. Speaking of shots, these irons have the smoothest, most buttery feel from any PING iron we’ve seen to date, making them a top choice for golfers who want great feel, forgiveness and shotmaking capabilities, in that order.

Bottom Line: A favorite among new forged designs, the ANSER irons have the makings of a set that will be around for a long, long time. They feel and perform as good as they look.

As usual, all PING irons can be custom fit to your exact specifications. This includes a wide array of length and lie options, as well as shafts and grips to choose from. For more information on PING’s clubfitting process, visit discount golf clubs

Why An Early Break Is So Important In Golf

Why An Early Break Is So Important In Golf

Article by Gerald Mason

Whenever we go to a golf tournament and see a really good player hit the ball, we receive two vivid impressions. The first is how far the ball goes with seemingly so little effort. The second is of a certain measured cadence in the upward and downward movement of the club. Both are accurate impressions.

Now if we happen to be on the practice tee, where we can watch this player hit shot after shot, we will notice two other things. One is that he swings all his clubs at about the same speed; he doesn’t seem to hit the 3 wood any harder than he hits the 7 iron. The second thing we notice, when we let our gaze wander to other players practicing, is that while most of them are deliberate, there are differences in their swinging speeds.

Timing is the answer to the first accomplishment–the long hit with little effort. Rhythm produces the measured cadence in the upward and downward movement of the club. And the differences we notice in swinging speed among other players are differences in tempo.

The hands will take over soon enough, as an automatic, reflex action. The problem is to keep them out while still keeping them moving. If we keep them out while our body moves the club from the top, our timing will be far better

Yet the ball still flies out much farther than it should, for the effort the player seems to be putting into it. This is very marked in the graceful players of smaller stature, such as Gene Littler, 1961 National Open champion, and Dow Finsterwald, former National PGA champion.

Timing

The answer to the effort-distance puzzle being timing, just what is timing? For one thing, it is a word that has been used more loosely, perhaps, than any other in golf literature. We have been blandly told that we should work to improve our timing, that our timing is off, that without good timing we cannot hope to play well. But there, having given the word the once-over-lightly treatment, the oracles have left us. They have never adequately explained timing or told us what we should do to improve ours. Our private guess is that they don’t know themselves what it is.

A dictionary will tell you that timing is: “The regulating of the speed of a motion, stroke, or blow, so that it reaches its maximum at the correct moment.” In golf, obviously, this would mean regulating the speed of the club head so as to cause it to reach its maximum as it hits the ball.

The key phrase is “regulating of the speed.” The better the speed is regulated, the better the timing; the poorer the regulation, the poorer the timing. It is here that at least 95 per cent of all golfers have their worst trouble.

They have it because the regulation of the speed depends not on how the club head is manipulated by the hands but on how and when other parts of the swinging system operate: the hips, the shoulders, the arms, the hands. If these move in the right way and in the right order, they will automatically regulate the speed of the club head so that it reaches its maximum as it hits the ball. It is, in effect, a chain reaction of movement, with the club head getting the final effect.

The reason the vast majority of golfers have such trouble timing a shot satisfactorily is that, subconsciously or consciously, they try to regulate the speed of the club head directly with their hands, without using the intermediary links of the hips, shoulders, and arms. When they do this they get an early but never very great reaction, in terms of speed, from the club head. This is the old familiar “hitting too soon” or “hitting from the top.” When the intermediary links are used and the chain reaction is allowed to take its course, there is a late reaction by the club head, which then accelerates to great speed at impact. There is a common expression to describe the player who uses the chain reaction: “He waits on the club.” It may not be grammatical but it is descriptive.

What this all comes down to is, the expression of good timing is the late hit. The expression of poor timing is the early hit. We have already, in previous chapters, explained the moves that produce the late hit and the early hit. Here, as we discuss timing, we isolate one key move that leads to good or improved timing. It is this: Let the body not the hands start moving the club on the downswing.

Once you can do this you are on the road to vastly better golf. You will have the feeling that you are starting down with arms and club close to the body close to the axis where they should be at this time.

So much has been written over the years about the importance of the hands in swinging the club, that many of us are entirely too hand conscious. A standing vote of thanks is due Bill Casper for stating, in a description of his swing as it reached the hitting position: “At this point my body is still swinging the club.” Many of us have been sure of that for years, but Casper, to our knowledge, was the first of the top tournament pros with the courage to say it.

Nearly all good players will give us impressions of timing and rhythm. The more graceful the player, the more vivid the impression will be. Sam Snead, among the moderns, is the perfect example. Among the giants of the past, Bob Jones’s swing was once called the “poetry of motion,” and the late Macdonald Smith was probably the most effortless swinger who ever played the game. The players of today swing harder at the ball than did their predecessors, with the result that theirs is more of a hitting than a swinging action.

Lets Talk Golf Etiquette

Another beautiful day, out on the golf course, and I’m feeling like a million bucks wearing my bright yellow golf shirt, plus the girl I want to meet, is just a golf hole before me.

There she goes, off the tee box. Right down the center of the fairway on number 2 hole. The last time I was out here, she faded it right into the bunker, just next to my favorite ball placement. I missed my golden opportunity to meet her at that time. I pull hooked the ball on the opposite side of this fairway.

Maybe we’ll meet a couple holes down. She has to return back down number 3, and I ought to be teeing off number 2-tee box at the exact same time. Maybe I’ll impress her with a wonderful drive, straight and long down the fairway. Worst-case scenario will be another long hook out into her fairway this time. I wonder if she’ll stop and watch me fly the trees, hitting back at the green?

Anyway, enough day dreaming. We are here to talk about golf etiquette.

Many people recall old movie images of golfers in plaid pants, sweater vests, billed caps, and other stereotypical apparel of golfing lore. While clothing on golf courses has changed over the years, proper golf apparel continues to be expected. As well as greater the prestige in the golf club, the greater the expectation you can abide by their dress code.

Most clubs and courses, even the public ones, require that golfers follow a dress code. The most common rule is the collared shirt. Many courses require long pants, not jeans, and golf shoes.

5 Minutes Early Is Late

On the subject of actually starting your game, the primary rule of etiquette is to show up on schedule for your tee time. Meaning you’ll have already done everything else in preparation for the start of starting a golf game. You’ll need time to park your car, warm up, practice, buy balls, change, and grab a cart. Being early is a matter of consideration for others.

Leave Cell Phones In The Real World

The exclusion of cell phones from golf apparel is another common courtesy on the links. Cell phones is required to be left in your car or locker. If you do must bring 1 onto the course for emergencies, keep it turned off.

When you’re on the course, you will need to understand how the other golfers within your group will wish to play. Some let the best score tee off on the following hole, while others let whoever is prepared tee off first. You can offend players by not following their rules, even if their rules are, from your perspective, wrong.

Time-Honored Conventions Make Golfing Unique

An obsession with quiet is another characteristic for which golfers are known. Like most traditions, this one is according to necessity. When your object would be to hit a small object with an extended pole, you will need all of your concentration. Even when golfing with friends, respect the basic rule of keeping quiet during shots, and standing out of the direct line of vision.

Today’s golfing rules of etiquette can seem archaic — a throwback to days of old. They harken back to a slower paced time when consideration for others was perhaps easier. While in the 21st century, golfing provides us some time away from the bustle of everyday living. Though golf is highly competitive, it’s, nonetheless, a gentleman’s — and gentlewoman’s — game.

Thanks for listening.Cash
