How the Internet Improved My Golf Game

How the Internet Improved My Golf Game

Article by Willie Paxton

Are you a beginner or a high handicapper at golf? Are you seeking the perfect golf swing? Have you paid out good money time & time again on golf instruction, on how to swing a golf club and not really seen any real improvement? I was in the same position. For a good 5 or 6 years I listened to the professional, practiced what he said but rarely did my game improve. In the end I became quite used to the idea that I would always be a high handicapper and my game would not really improve to any great extent.

Out of desperation I decided that instead of paying for more lessons I would seek advice and golf swing tutorial from the Internet. I had some basic flaws in my game. Of my tee shots, only around half were good and my second or third shot would invariably be a left of the target. I also struggled with my short game and my putting quite honestly was a joke.

I came across a book on the internet and I was amazed at the improvement in my game. I found it to be a step-by-step guide with detailed photos that taught the correct way to grip the club. The book is a comprehensive guide to golf that addresses all the problems related to slicing, chipping, putting, sand, driving, inconsistency, distance and much more, with simple and easy to follow instructions.

My problem tee shot was down to a couple of things. I either hooked the shot very low and it went only about 100 yards or my swing would come across the left side of the ball causing an enormous slice. I cured the hook with a change of grip. Basically I was turning my hands towards the left and closing the club face. This resulted and a shot that started off OK for the first 50 yards only to swerve rapidly left and dive very quickly to the ground. The new grip I have, stopped this as it made it very difficult to close the face. I also learned how to align the club-face to cure my awful slice. You see I was aligning my club too close to the toe of the club, so this encouraged an exaggerated slice.

My second and even third shots were corrected by examining my address of the ball, I did not realize that I had a very open stance, my feet were in a parallel line pointing to the right of the target, this was like my original tee shots causing the club to have a closed face. So, whilst I was always aiming right of the intended target, my shots would invariably go left. The book highlighted other problems also. I had a tendency to get off balance when putting extra effort into a shot which would result in a shank. The book cured many of my bad golfing habits. I effectively got a golf swing that works for less than the price of a pair of golf shoes.

Perfect Your Golf Swing Alignment

Perfect Your Golf Swing Alignment

Article by Brad Myers

If you ask the players on the PGA Tour to name what they believe to be the most important golf fundamentals, there is no doubt that golf swing alignment would be towards the top of the list. However, most amateurs either do not know or do not admit how important golf swing alignment is to their success.

It is amazing how you always have certain things that stick with you that you have heard from your different instructors. On the topic of golf swing alignment, one of my old instructors used to say.You can have the biggest and boldest cannon and it does not mean anything to you if it is not aimed in the correct direction.. There are many sayings that I am sure that you have heard along these lines. Obviously, you can hit the perfect golf shot but if it is aimed 30 yards to the left of the target the results are not going to be to your liking.

Since golf swing alignment is a main fundamental to each and every golf shot, here are some simple exercises that you can quickly and easily do to check your golf swing alignment.

First, setup to a golf shot as you normally would and make sure you are comfortable. Now that you are ready to make your golf swing, place a tee directly behind each of your heels and push both tees all the way into the ground. Now move away from your setup and place a club.s shaft over both of the tees to create a straight line. Now, go behind your ball and look down the target line. Does it match what you thought?

This golf alignment exercise shows you exactly where you are aligning your feet. If your pictures do not match, then you can simply change or move the tees so they align correctly and then setup with the tees touching the back of your heels. If you were not aligned properly, do not be surprised that when you setup to your next shot with your heels properly placed that you will feel that you are aimed somewhere else. If your feet have been aligned incorrectly for a while, then it will feel quite strange when you do align them correctly. Keeping track of your alignment, your new feet position will become second nature in no time at all.

Another easy way to check your alignment is to assume your address position, remove your left hand from the club and simply point to a spot 10 yards to the left (for a right-handed golfer) of your target. Monitor where your arm and finger are pointing opposed to where your shoulders and hips are pointing. They should feel like they are creating a straight line. If you feel they are pointing to the left then you are prone to hit a push or a hook. If pointing to the right, you are prone to hit a pull or a slice.

As the PGA Tour players would agree, your golf swing alignment is one of the most important golf fundamentals for each golf shot that you take. You must check it often, because it’s very easy to align yourself incorrectly without even knowing it. That is why I would be surprised if you were on driving range at a PGA Tour stop and did not see several players with clubs on the ground to assist with their golf swing alignment. Now that you know exactly what you need to do to check your golf swing alignment, you should be hitting more golf shots at your target and lowering your scores.

Three Techniques to Assist Busy Women in Getting Better at Their Golf Game

No matter what level you are on or your duration of playing time, golf is a game that you constantly want to improve. However, many times it is not that simple to do. This is especially the case if you do not know why you are not getting any better, even when you continue to practice for hours on end. They also often believe the men are whispering about them behind their backs which leads to frustration even though it’s not often true. No matter what your skill level is if you lack confidence your game will suffer. Strength can improve you game some but your overall technique and accuracy can be even more important. Where accuracy is concerned women excel which means they can compensate for the difference in strength and play as well as any man. Still, you might anticipate tightening your grip to elevate control, although the exact opposite is true. A soft grip will authorize you to have a greater feeling of the club. Improving Golf Swing

Improving Golf Swing

Article by tommy golfswing

StanceStance is extremely important in golf. As you may have heard before, PGA (Professional Golfer’s Association) actually stands for Posture, Grip and Alignment. A stance in golf is very important because it involves two of these three keys for a successful swing and a lower score. If you’ve ever played golf before, you probably are aware of how important your stance is, but what you may not know is that you can actually alter your stance for specific shots. Why would you ever do this? Of course if you’re one of those golfers who always has a perfect swing, your ball is either in the fairway or on the green at all times, so your stance would never need to be altered if you’re behind a tree or in a sand trap because that never happens to you.Yeah right.Even the pros end up in the rough, in the water, or behind the trees. It’s just the nature of the game. In fact, one could argue that being able to play perfectly round after round would make golf boring to play. Unless you’re an advanced robot with a programmed, perfected swing that’s perfect every time an in any condition, then that is not you. There are several situations you may consider altering your stance, but to start we’ll look at how your stance should normally be. – Your feet should be a little wider than shoulder-width apart.- Your knees should be slightly bent- The ball should be aligned in the center of your stance, far enough away that you can reach it with the club comfortably. This is the standard golfing stance. Grooving Your Swing

Grooving Your Swing

Article by Jack Moorehouse

The key to hitting longer, straighter drives is squaring your clubface at impact. Anything less this results in either a weak drive or a slice or pull. To ensure you attain the correct impact position, your swing must be mechanically flawless or you must make pre-impact adjustments on the fly.

But making adjustments is not conducive to generating low scores or a low golf handicap. In fact, on-the-fly adjustments tend to do just the opposite, since they create a lot of opportunity for error. The goal then is to hone your swing so it is as technically perfect as you can make—not an easy task. Below are some drills that will help you grove your swing.

Triangle Takeaway DrillThe takeaway may be the most important move in the swing. It encourages good positions throughout the swing, increases your chances of executing a perfect swing, and delivers the clubhead squarely to the ball at impact—the key to hitting longer, straighter drives. This drill teaches you to stay connected during your swing, grove a one-piece takeaway, and employ a fuller body turn, creating added power:

Grip your driver a few inches below the club’s handle. Place the club’s butt end gently against your stomach at a point just above your navel. Now practice making small swings. Concentrate on keeping your arms close to your body with the club touching your navel. A lot of golf teachers use this drill in their golf lessons to help beginners groove the proper takeaway.

Thumbs-Up DrillThe next important phase of the swing after the takeaway is the backswing and the coking of the wrists. A mistake at this point in your swing causes a dramatically negative domino effect, with the club ending up well behind the body on the backswing. That in turn eliminates the chance of achieving square clubface-to-ball contact at impact.

Take your address position without a club. Swing back to chest level as if you had a club in your hands, making certain that your thumbs are angled up toward the sky. Hold that position for a few seconds, so you remember it and physically feel and grove it. Next, swing through to chest level, again making sure that your thumbs point at the sky. Practice this drill several times a day.

In-The-Slot-DrillPlayers who fail to find the right slot in their downswing fail to have a square clubface at impact. Unfortunately, some players release their right wrist (left wrist for left-handers) and/or right elbow (left for left-handers) much too early in the downswing, causing a weak misdirected slice. This drill teaches you to maintain the proper wrist and elbow hinge until you reach the impact zone.

Take your address position and then swing the club to the top. Hold that position briefly. Now start unwinding your hips on the downswing. Simultaneously, drop your elbow down in front of your back hip then freeze this position. Feel the position of your arms but do not uncock the wrists. This move trains your wrist to remain cocked and teaches you to feel the sensation of delaying the hit, without feeling the need to pull on the butt end of the club.

Stop-And-Go DrillOne of the biggest mistakes weekend golfers make is triggering their downswing with either a violent body move or an exaggerated lower body slide. As a result, the player tends to come into the impact area with the clubface wide open and slice the ball severely. This drill teaches you to make a smooth transition and synchronize the downswing move with the rest of your body.

Take your address position and then swing the club back, stopping at the top of your stroke. Be sure at this stage to check that your weight is balanced. Hold that position for a few seconds. Next, complete the swing and trigger a perfect chain reaction by rotating your hips and legs smoothly toward the target. Many teachers use this drill during golf instruction sessions to teach an efficient, on plane move and for promoting good balance during the swing.

The Twenty DrillSome golfers lose power on the downswing because they fail to accelerate their arms during this phase of the swing. As a result, the player hits balls much shorter than they should. The goal with this drill is to teach the player to swing the clubhead powerfully, so that by the time the club makes it to impact it is moving at high speed, enabling you to hit the ball longer with better height and carry.

Use your driver for this drill. Take your address position. Now swing the club back and through to the finish twenty times in a row without stopping. Ideally, you want to remain flat-footed through the impact zone. Some players are able to swing the club all the way through into the finish while remaining flat-footed. Swing as fast as possible. Do 20 swings in the morning and then 20 swings at night.

None of these drills require you to go to the practice range or the course. You can do them in your backyard or in your house or office. Work on the drills as often as you can. They’ll help you achieve lower scores and whittle down that golf handicap.

Stop Slicing And Get The Proper Golf Swing

Stop Slicing And Get The Proper Golf Swing

Every golfer wants to execute that perfect and proper golf swing and execute it every time they play. It is the kind of swing that can be used either with an iron or a wood. With this proper golf swing, you should be able to tee off, suitably adapting to the weather and the course. It is the kind of swing that should be able to get you out of any difficult situation. It is the kind of swing that is simple yet versatile and dependable, the ideal proper golf swing.

But this is not going to happen if you are prone to slicing.

Getting that proper golf swing is not easy and it takes a lot of practice to get the mistakes out of a bad swing. But it is not as difficult as you think. It all depends on what you do during the swing.

Simplify

Keep your swing simple; this is one tip that will always work. Keeping a swing simple takes away the unnecessary movements that not only wastes energy but also make the swing bad. It is not necessary to bend your elbows during the swing. Neither is any extra step necessary. These unnecessary movements can skew your shot.

Rhythm

If you feel that trying to improve yourself will not work, then get yourself a coach to teach you the finer points of how to improve golf swing. The two essential aspects of a proper golf swing are position and balance. But lack of rhythm can spoil all your efforts. Make sure that you have a smooth rhythm to go with your swing and to fix whatever you are trying to fix. This can be in the form of humming a tune, singing a song or counting. But doing it will help you get the proper golf swing.

Position Of The Hand

Another feature that should never be forgotten is the position of the hand and the wrist. Wrong positioning of the hand or the wrist can cause a twisted club in your hand. This will result in the striking of the ball at an angle and not dead centre, making the ball to go in any direction except the one it should – straight ahead. Practice till you get it correct every time.

The best hand position is to interlock your hands with the little and ring fingers of your dominant hand connected to the index finger and middle finger of your complimentary hand (it is not called the weak hand). With a little practice, your problem should be solved. If you get this hand position correct, you can improve on accuracy and distance.

Straighten Your Spine

Keep your spine straight and let it act as the axis of your pivot. This is something that no golfer should underestimate when it comes the execution of the proper golf swing. Think of yourself as a pendulum, with the spine a your axis. This golf swing instruction, if faithfully followed, should improve your game a great deal.

Rotation Of The Hip

Now that you have got your spine acting as an axis and your hands interlocked and firmly gripping the club, you must concentrate on removing the rotation of the hip in your quest for the proper golf swing. Golf is not boxing where a lot of punch can come from the swinging of the hips. If you swing your hips in golf, you will get only your slice and your hook. Therefore keep your hip rotation to a minimum. But this is not the beginning and the end of golf.

Find out just how much hip rotation you can allow before it spoils your proper golf swing. Follow these tips, practice regularly and see if it does not improve your game by getting rid of the slice and by being more accurate and achieving a good long shot.
