Johnson with title to defend, point to prove at Pebble

Article by Golf Wholesale Shop

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Dustin Johnson returns to Pebble Beach with conflicting emotions.Rare is a defending champion who is looking for redemption.Johnson has a chance to make history as the first player to win three successive years at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am since this iconic event began in 1937.Forgotten is how he built a four-shot lead in 2009 and was declared the winner when rain cut the tournament short to 54 holes. Or how he smashed one last drive to set up an easy birdie from the bunker on the final hole last year for a one-shot victory. No, the lasting image of Johnson at Pebble Beach comes from the U.S. Open last summer. He had a three-shot lead going into the final round when he took two chips from the rough – one of them left-handed – and took a triple bogey on the second hole. Then came an aggressive play with the driver on No. 3 that he hooked into the bushes for a lost ball. His tee shot on the fourth went into the ocean. It added to a colossal collapse in his first chance to win a major. Johnson closed with an 82, the highest final round by a 54-hole leader at the U.S. Open in nearly 100 years. He had yet to get out to Pebble Beach by Wednesday, and planned to play only a couple of holes before sneaking over to Cypress Point. Johnson has moved into the celebrity rotation, meaning he will play Monterey Peninsula on Thursday and Spyglass Hill on Friday before he gets his first crack at Pebble Beach.Which memories will come back?“Neither,” Johnson said. “I’m just coming out to play the golf course. It’s still good, even though the last time I played it I struggled a little bit. But I’m still excited to get back out there and play. I’m always going to love this golf course, no matter what. I’m just ready to get back out and play.”But then he paused, and offered a slight smile.“Get a little redemption for the last round of the Open,” he said.Johnson does not lose confidence easily. Despite a round that would haunt some players, he was right back in the mix two months later at the PGA Championship, poised to win another major until he failed to realize he was in a bunker on a Whistling Straits course that has too many bunkers to count. Instead of getting into a playoff, he wound two shots behind. Unfazed, Johnson won the BMW Championship a month later to mark himself as a rising star. That’s not to say he hasn’t learned from his mistakes, especially at Pebble Beach.Johnson attributes his U.S. Open blunders to playing and thinking too quickly. He is among the fastest players in the game, and Johnson spent the latter part of last year trying to slow down.“In the first couple of rounds, I might get a little quick,” he said. “I probably need to do it more in the first, second and third rounds than I do in the final round. The final round is when you’re thinking and you’re more conscious of what’s going on. That’s when it’s most important, when you’re under the gun and when you’ve got a shot to win.“Slow for me is still pretty fast,” he said. “I’ve got to feel like I’m moving pretty slow, which probably isn’t slow.”The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am gets under way Thursday with the usual suspects – Johnson going for a third straight win, Phil Mickelson trying to find momentum sometime before the Masters, Davis Love III playing for the 25th consecutive year, and Padraig Harrington making his PGA Tour debut.Harrington was on his way out to Pebble Beach for a practice round when he bumped into Johnson. He stopped to shake hands and pass along a playful message.“I’m trying to take the trophy off your hands this week,” Harrington said.“Good luck,” Johnson said with a delivery that Clint Eastwood could appreciate.Johnson might not be on top of his game as he was a year ago, when he was coming off a runner-up finish at Riviera. His season began with a couple of top 10s, including an outside chance to win at Torrey Pines. He made more news for his relationship with LPGA player Natalie Gulbis that surfaced at Kapalua, whatever that relationship was.Even so, he gets most of his attention on the course.“We’ve never had an athlete like that play this tour,” Paul Goydos said. “He’s the best athlete that I can think of who’s playing out here. It’s ridiculous to watch this guy work out. He’s a tremendous talent who can do things that very few people have ever been able to do.”Johnson nearly had a chance to win as a rookie until he chopped up the 14th hole. He followed that with two victories. He is not sure why he has such an affinity for Pebble Beach. He just does.“I’m very comfortable out here,” he said. “I think I’ve got this course figured out pretty well. I tend to play it pretty well. Confidence is huge, especially playing golf. If you’re confident you’re going to play well on the golf course, most of the time you do.”More information at http://www.shoppinginjoy.com/TaylorMade+Burner+20+Iron+Set-goods-981.html

Shot-shaping Callaway FT-9 Driver

Shot-shaping Callaway FT-9 Driver

Article by Golf Wholesale Shop

Callaway FT-9 Driver’s Fusion Technology that delivers professional shot-shaping and Tour distance, for a fine-tuned game. This is the driver the shot makers turn to. Versatility, distance and control all in one space-age package. The Callaway FT-9 Driver was designed to deliver the most creative shot-making you can think of. Fade it. Draw it. Or take it over the trees. With the addition of Hyperbolic Face Technology, ball speeds across the entire face have been dramatically improved to generate even more distance. Choose between Draw or Neutral configurations with the help of external web weighting that helps precisely position the center of gravity to promote the desired trajectory and ball flight for the desired shot shape. The FT-9 Tour Driver features a slightly open face angle and produces stronger, more penetrating trajectories preferred by highly accomplished players. The FT-9 benefits from the latest technology to produce an incredibly low-spin driver that is long and easily controlled. Callaway’s Hyperbolic Face technology creates an incredible feel at impact which produces a hot face with unmatched distance. Incorporating the success of the FT-5 with the Hyperbolic Face allows engineers to push ball speed specifications even further across the entire face without sacrificing any control. The Callaway FT-9 feels very comfortable in your hands. The solid feeling it gives comes from the multiple materials used in its creation, and plays a big part in the club’s satisfying weight distribution. (The Callaway FT-9’s CG is 18 percent lower than in other models, in fact.) Add the OptiFit to the club and trying it out becomes a breeze.Quite a few golf club manufactures make adjustable weight drivers, but very few can master the technology. Callaway golf is one of the few that can successfully do this. The OptiFit Weighting System allows the golfer to change the center of gravity by changing the weighting position. There are three weight locations that can be changed. The end result of the OptiFit Weighting System on the Callaway FT-9 driver is longer, straighter, golf shots!I thoroughly enjoyed the Callaway FT-9 and feel that is one of the better drivers currently available on the market. The driver combines traditional design with the latest technology producing a driver with a hot feel without sacrificing workability and forgiveness. If you are looking for a new driver seriously consider the Callaway FT-9. I was overly impressed with the results of this driver and look forward to adding this driver to my bag in the near future. Golfers’ review:I have bought the driver 10days ago and it really helped to reduce my score considerably because of the good distance it delivered. Traditional look. Forgiving on off-center hits, but it definitely has a sweet spot. When hit flush, it has a different tone and the ball comes off the face very hot.I bought this club, and only miss hit 1 drive when I went out yesterday for the first time with it. Hit longer and straighter than I ever have. It is the first decent Driver I have owned and I freaking love it.I Got the Callaway FT-9 last week. Have only smacked a few buckets at the range Verdict: Longer than the FT-3. Straighter than the Ping or Taylormade. Has a nice solid sound at ball impact. Looks good at address, lines up easy. Played a full round with my new FT-9 yesterday. First drive of the day, no warm up, exactly where I aimed it and the longest drive of the day. Just goes to show a smooth swing produces the best results. This driver is terrific and I love the idea that I can interchange the shaft if I feel like a change or find a better shaft. Love the shape, the feel and the sound. Feel very confident over the ball. Just got to sort out the swing now and I know I’ll be hitting good drives more consistently with this great club. This is the best driver I have ever owned. I switched from a 10.5 degree driver that was 2in longer, and I hit this 9 degree driver consistently 20-25yds longer. The ball flight is also very penetrating. With my old driver, I usually carried it about 245yds and roll another 10yds; with the new FT-9, I got it to carry 255yds then roll another 15yds. Overall, this driver is an excellent replacement for any driver. My Driver FT-5 old little crack and I brought new Callaway FT-9 hit straight than FT-5 I am surprise. I really love Callaway FT-9 Driver great swing hit straight, now handicap down now my 12 wow. I am happy FT-9 Driver. I am 70 yrs old. I am keep going play golf. The FT-9 is long and straight. By far the straightest driver i have ever owned in 40 years.More information at http://www.ourgolfstore.com/goods-77-Callaway+FT-9+Driver.html

Most Advanced TaylorMade R9 SuperTri Driver

Most Advanced TaylorMade R9 SuperTri Driver

Article by Golf Wholesale Shop

Unconfirmed sources are pointing to more differences between the SuperTri and original R9 460. Not only is the head bigger but the face is rumored to be made of SP-700 titanium and the fitting sleeve is supposed to be lighter and more secure. Prototype images are also appearing of a version with only 2 weights one of which is named the Taylormade R9 Super Deep “DF”.TaylorMade has introduced its new R9 SuperTri and R9 SuperTri Tour drivers, which combine Flight Control Technology (FCT) and Movable Weight Technology with three movable weights in a 460cc head. The larger head is more forgiving, and its centre of gravity is two millimetres further back in the head than the r9 making it easier to launch the ball higher and with more spin. The inclusion of MWT with three weights promotes a side-to-side trajectory change of up to 75 yards. The TaylorMade R9 SuperTri driver features Inverted Cone Technology (ICT). Although it’s milled onto the back of the clubface where it’s out of sight, ICT plays a critical role by increasing the area of the clubface that delivers fast ball speed, promoting more distance on off-centre hits. The R9 SuperTri driver clubhead has a new shape and a black-on-black colour scheme, including a black PVD clubface. The R9 SuperTri is equipped with a Fujikura Motore 60-gram shaft, which is five grams lighter than the Motore 65 used in the R9 driver. In addition to being lighter, the Motore 60 makes it easier to launch the ball on a higher launch angle and at a higher spin-rate, which helps many players achieve longer carry for increased distance. The R9 SuperTri unites four viable performance technologies: FCT, MWT, UTW and ICT. Never before have four such impactful, performance enhancing technologies been combined so effectively in a single driver. Plus, there’s the superior aerodynamics of the new crown shape. The R9 SuperTri and R9 SuperTri TP are the most advanced, highest-performing drivers TaylorMade has ever developed. The distance producing power and shot straightening abilities created by their combined clubhead size, clubhead design, performance technologies and shaft specifications make them clubs that no golfer should be without.Sleek all-black looks made this a very good looking club. The black PVD face was first seen from TaylorMade with the highly regarded R7 SuperQuad. The head shape is not quite the classic pear shape with its fractionally extended rear but its a million miles from the lairy max-MOI efforts that are now so commonplace. Because the face is so deep it has a very reassuring look at address – not only do you get the sensation that the face is impossible to miss, you also get the subliminal message that you are playing a club with much greater loft so you don’t need to rip into the ball to try and lift it up.Sound off in the comments area and vote in the poll! Is it more of the same? I hear that the adjustment sleeve has been updated but that provides no substantial gain for the player’s shot, perhaps they made a new sleeve to save even further on weight. I unlike many people welcome almost all new releases by Taylormade because they push the envelope and keep their competitors on their toes. So what if its virtually the same as the R9 except with a deeper face, my only gripe about it is of everyone I know who has an R9 very few actually adjust the club after the first several rounds.Players’ review:This driver definitely surprised me. I had been told by many that I would hit the ball to high with this club because of my swing speed and natural trajectory, but was impressed with a penetrating ball flight. The ball was very hot off the face and very accurate. After two rounds, I love the solid feel and am getting used to the Motore shaft. Distance and control are both big plusses! Have not yet tweaked the adjustments, and will probably stick with the factory settings. As a Titelist devotee, I demo-ed their new driver, but found the Super Tri to be much friendlier and easier to control both ways (draw or fade). Can’t wait to try the three wood. With one round under its belt, the SuperTri is proving to be money well spent. Distance increase isn’t massive for me but accuracy and ball flight is very impressive so far. It looks great at address, doesn’t seem enormous, I’d say very forgiving as well. I have gone through 3 other drivers-Cleveland Monster XLS, Ping G10, & TM R9 460, over the past year, and the SUPER TRI is without a doubt the best driver out. The R9 460 is also a great club, but the Super TRI is far more superior & worth the upgrade. This driver is also very forgiving. This driver is exactly why Taylormade drivers are the #1 driver on the Tour.Over many years playing golf I have owned many many types of drivers. I am what you call a driver collector. At present I have the R7, Ping i15, Ping G15, Callaway FTiz and the Tri. All are very good clubs but the Tri is the best of all in distance and shot dispersion. There is one simple reason why this club is so much better than the rest of my drivers and that is the Fuji Motore shaft. I would recommend to all golfers seeking the goal of improving their game- go buy a good quality shaft and reap the benefits.More information at http://www.shoppinginjoy.com/TaylorMade+R9+Super+Tri+Driver+-goods-871.html

Smooth and powerful Callaway Diablo Edge Driver

Smooth and powerful Callaway Diablo Edge Driver

Article by Golf Wholesale Shop

The Diablo Edge Drivers are designed to give golfers a distance advantage every time you tee it up, which offer superior face technology, a higher MOI, a deeper CG, and better aerodynamics — and it all adds up to the longest, most accurate all-titanium drivers Callaway Golf has ever made. The 4-piece Fused Titanium design creates the most weight efficient titanium driver Callaway has ever made, generating long, penetrating trajectories. The chemically milled Hyperbolic Face produces Callaway’s highest, most consistent ball speeds over the entire face. The new aerodynamic body shape reduces drag during the downswing up to 8%, creating faster impact speeds. With the use of Fused Titanium in a 4-piece modular design, it produces the most weight efficient all titanium driver we’ve ever created. Each part is precision-formed and accurately fused together, allowing weight to be positioned optimally, delivering distance-enhancing, penetrating ball flight.A chemical reduction process selectively removes unwanted material from the face cup for precision thickness control, resulting in our most consistently high ball speeds ever. The new aerodynamic body shape reduces drag during the downswing up to 8%, creating faster impact speeds. This club is definitely a shade longer than the original. I believe there are several factors responsible for this. While the original sported the same hot “X-Face” technology that Callaway has been refining for several years, this newer model, similar to the new FT-iZ Model, also features said an X-Face technology that has been “Chemically Milled.” This process is similar to the old “Acid Dipping” process we used to use to remove dead weight from the heavy gauge steel bodies of our old hot rods when we were kids. Similarly to the old GTO’s and Plymouth Belvedere’s of our generation, this newer “Chemically Milled Face” has had the dynamic spots made larger, and the deader spots made much smaller. Though all drivers max out at .830 COR by USGA Regulations, the entire face does feel more consistent. Hit one of these anywhere near the sweet spot–and that ball is going to fly.To help improve feel and performance, Callaway have introduced their S2H2 technology which shortens the hosel and allows the tip of the shaft to move down towards the sole of the club. This also repositions the weight in the perimeter of the golf club for more stability. Having the shaft tip nearer the center of the clubface on the Callaway Diablo Edge Driver will give you superior feel and control over your drives. All in all, there’s no doubt that Callaway knows how to make a driver that people can just plain hit. Our experience tells us that the Diablo Edge is yet another club that does its fiendish best to carry on that legacy.Golfers’ review:Callaway promised extreme forgiveness and they have certainly delivered, this is a club that will boost your confidence every time you step on to the tee. Better players will probably been keen to investigate the Diablo Edge Tour version because it offers more control and the effortless high ball flight of the standard version is likely to appeal more to the higher handicappers looking for some help off the tee.Longest, most forgiving driver Callaway has produced. Will help to eliminate a bad slice.I’ve been trying to find the right driver for the last several months as many on here have. I was able to get a good deal on this Diablo Edge 9 deg. stiff shaft. It is accurate, forgiving and long. This driver has ended the search.Took two rounds to find the sweet spot but I found it today. Lowest round for a while a 78. the reason is because I was long and in the short grass. Hitting to the dance floor was much easier. The diablo driver along with the newly purchased ghost putter turned my game around. Both clubs, at address, gives you a lot of confidence that you can pull the shot off. Today I did. Can’t wait till the next time out. The Diablo added 25 to 30 more yards, down the middle, awesome! Diablo Edge, is the most amazing Driver I have ever seen, I drive the ball about 340-360 (no kidding) most of them I don’t even have to full swing, its incredible. the first few days I was upset cause it seems like I wasn’t good, but my old driver was heavier, so I had to adjust my style a bit, and now, WOW, straighter, higher, longer. Sometime I miss the sweet spot and still get over 300. I recommended, the price is worth it, and is sweet, nice looking and perfect feeling.I had my first driver fitting and this was the driver that fit me best. Best purchase I’ve ever made to improve my driving.More information at http://www.shoppinginjoy.com/Callaway+Diablo+Edge+Driver-goods-868.html

Long and straight Callaway FT-IQ Driver

Improved Complete Inertial Design: Positions discretionary weight deeper and to the extreme corners, raising the MOI for unparalleled forgiveness on shots hit anywhere on the face; 4. Visible External Weighting: Strategically placed weighting in the rear corners helps create the straightest drives possible with ideal ball-flight trajectories to maximize distance; 5. Mitsubishi Rayon Fubuki Shaft Exclusive to the FT-iQ Drivers: This ultra premium shaft has been designed with Modulus Differential Technology (MDT) for tour-level high launch, low spin performance.Creating the highest level of performance takes the brightest minds exploiting cutting edge materials, shapes and technologies. The new FT-iQ Driver advances the revolutionary ideas that went into the FT-i Driver to become the straightest driver Callaway Golf has ever made. The refined head shape has a sleek and stealthy look while raising the MOI for unprecedented accuracy off the tee. Hyperbolic Face Technology significantly raises ball speeds across the entire face for increased distance. The exclusive Fubuki shaft from Mitsubishi Rayon adds to the incredible feel and performance. This club may take a traditional golfer a little longer to get use to looking at but I guarantee looking at your ball landing in play instead of out of bounds will help you make that switch a lot quicker. No matter what your handicap there are Callaway FT-iQ golf clubs to fit your game!Golfers’ review:This is the longest driver I’v ever hit. I like the Callaway drivers and I love it. It is great for high handicappers and anyone who struggles with finding the fairway. The FT-IQ does everything I need it to do and more. I started with the 11* non tour model and was very pleased. I then bought the 9.5* Tour head and was even more impressed. Even with the 0.5* open face I rarely find myself slicing the ball. If you’re looking for something that will help to fix a slice then this club will help.Amazing golf tool – I’ve now got lengths I had never dreamed of. This is by fare the best buy I have ever done. The sound is a bit strange compared to my previous driver and at first I found the shape a bit disturbing – but it keeps its promise – straight and long – so who cares about looks and sound. I have been playing the FT-i for a couple of years; I tried FT-IQ the other day. After a few trips to the range and a round of golf, it would appear this is a better club in every way over the FT-i. The sound is far better; much more like a normal titanium faced club and much less clang. It is at least as straight as its predecessor and much longer. The ball flight is lower and more penetrating (a huge bonus in Texas winds) and on average I hit it about 20-25 yards longer. All in all, Callaway took a good club and improved it in every way. That is definitely the straightest driver I put my hands on and one of the longest as well; but definitely it is more straighter than longer. The sound also is very satisfying unlike the hollow, tinny sound I was used with the other FT’s I owned. I can honestly say this is the best I have ever used. Great work Callaway! This driver is incredible. It excels at hitting the ball straight as an arrow with piercing flight. I used it for the first time on the course and it was very forgiving. Swinging it feels really good and at address it looks easy to hit. Great performance overall.More information at http://www.discountwholesalegolf.com/callaway-ftiq-driver-p-334.html?cPath=83_84

Soft feel and stable Odyssey White Hot XG Putter

Soft feel and stable Odyssey White Hot XG Putter

Article by Golf Wholesale Shop

The White Hot XG 330 Mallet is a face-balanced mallet with Hi-Def Alignment stripes, a “crank-neck” hosel and full-shaft offset. The White Hot XG Rossie Blade is a modified face-balanced mallet with a double-bend shaft and full-shaft offset. As with Odyssey’s previous modern-mallet designs, stability is the key. Heavy alignment wings move the majority of weight to the outer edges of the putter, which dramatically increases the moment of inertia. White, black and red markings appear on the outer wings as well as the inner-alignment aid to help start the putter in the intended direction. The White Hot XG insert provides the soft feel and consistent roll that regular Odyssey users will be familiar with. This is a fine example of Odyssey at its best with a putter that could provide a welcome injection of confidence for anyone struggling on the greens. As ever with Odyssey’s White Hot inserts, the face is extremely soft – so long putts will need to be hit hard. However, it is from around 10ft and in where those having trouble on the greens will certainly notice the benefits of this extremely stable design. Golfers’ review:This putter has excellent feel, balance, and touch. Before I bough it, I was having trouble getting long putts close and holing short putts. It is perfect for lowering one’s score. After trying out quite a few putters I found that this was the one, the balance and the feel are superb and it looks pretty sexy as well! I would recommend this to anyone,I have tried about five different putters before I finally purchased an Odyssey. The Odyssey is by far the best. The white hot insert does two things; it keeps the ball on line, and keeps it distance on a mis-hit. Absolutely the very best putter I have ever had in my bag it is almost hard to miss putts with this thing. I bought this because I just could not find my line with my old Taylormade Rossa Ghost Daytona Putter. With this I find my line more often than not. The grip on this is amazing. The weight and balance is out standing I no longer sway side to side like with the old one. I have tried other odyssey’s and they are all great especially the 2 ball mallet. This is they only mallet I can hit consistently on line. The soft face provides great control on fast greens, even from long distance. I didn’t even practice with the putter before my first full round with it, but it felt so natural.Only been playing seriously for 4 months. Now with the right equipment I’m 2 putting almost every hole. After 3 rounds I actually sank a 40 footer to save par. Excellent feel, smooth roll on the ball.More information at http://www.ourgolfstore.com/goods-154-Odyssey+White+Hot+XG+Putter+2009.html
