New Tiger, Old Tiger, What’s the difference?

New Tiger, Old Tiger, What’s the difference?

He still curses. He still tosses clubs. His interviews, still, are clipped and smug — the few he gives, that is. This new version of Tiger Woods was supposed to be warmer, fuzzier, someone who showed more respect for the game and all those fans who’ve made him a very rich man. A year later, it appears as if the only thing about Woods that’s really changed is his ability to win ping anser. No one expected Woods to become Phil Mickelson when he returned to the game following the swiftest, sharpest downfall of a star athlete in recent memory. Taming his temper and ego was going to be as big a project as his swing change, and he’s having about as much luck. Sure, he’ll occasionally wave as he walks off the tee, make eye contact with fans here and there. He has stopped during pro-am rounds to pose for pictures. He’s even embraced Twitter, showing a charming personality in 140 characters or less. Those things are relatively easy to do, however. When it comes to basic course etiquette and being more accessible, he can’t seem to be bothered. He was fined for spitting on the green during the final round of the Dubai Desert Classic earlier this year. He cursed enough during the Masters that CBS’ coverage probably should have come with a “parental discretion is advised” disclaimer. His interview with Bill Macatee after shooting a 67 on Sunday was needlessly testy, making his uncomfortable chat with Peter Kostis a year earlier look like a fireside chat. Even when he does talk, he sidesteps the most mundane questions about how his life has changed, and treats reasonable inquiries about the state of his game with disdain ping anser forged irons. “When he was at his height, he was great golfer and had a very likable persona,” said Michael Gordon, a principal at Group Gordon Strategic Communications, a corporate and crisis firm in New York. “Both are missing right now.” Woods is hardly the first flawed golfing hero. Arnold Palmer was criticized for smoking. Ben Hogan was considered aloof. John Daly makes soap operas seem dull. And even Woods’ boorish antics were overlooked while he piled up wins in record numbers and closed in on Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors. If his Sunday run at the Masters was any indication, all will be forgiven if he starts winning again. But with nary a title in almost 17 months, patience with his tantrums and pouting is wearing thin. Before the sex scandal, Woods had a Q Score — the measure of likeability among consumers — of 28, second only to Michael Jordan among athletes. Now his Q Score is 14, putting him in the same company as serial problem children Terrell Owens and Randy Moss. “He was never the most personable athlete out there by any means. He always had that attitude, but it fell by the wayside because he was a champion. That’s not the case now,” said Henry Schafer, executive vice president of The Q Scores Company. “This is where he’s at, and that’s what people are going to focus on until he starts winning.” His spitting incident in Dubai caused so much outrage that Royal & Ancient chief executive Peter Dawson suggested this week that the PGA and European tours make their disciplinary actions public. “I would not want to give the impression in any way that the standards of behavior in golf are poor,” Dawson told the Press Association on Tuesday at Royal St. George’s. “I think they are very high, and golf is still held up as a model for many other sports. These particular incidents that we see do get a great deal of publicity and rightly so.” Woods has carefully crafted his image, and he’s not about to give up that control now. But big-time sports are equal parts entertainment and athletics, and there’s a price to pay for being the first billion athlete. If Woods wants folks to shell out .99 for the Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 video game or pay 0 for the privilege of wearing his TW Air Zoom golf shoes, he’s got to give something back. Otherwise, don’t be surprised if fans start drifting to some of the game’s other personalities — like the little girl standing behind the 18th green at Augusta National wearing a Rickie Fowler hat and Puma shoes ping anser ironsMore details at http://www.ourdiscountgolf.com.

Tiger Woods News and the Media World

Tiger Woods News and the Media World

Sometimes I wonder, is this just Tiger Woods’ World and we just so happen to live in it too?  I am sure any citizen living in the United States that has watched at least 3 minutes of news on any major media outlet over the past several months can recall that Tiger Woods cheated on his now estranged wife Elin Nordegren, right?

Well, if not, here it is. Back in late November of 2009, Tiger Woods was injured in a one-car accident outside of his home, near the Orlando, Florida area during the very early hours of the morning.  Early reports suggested that Woods crashed into a tree, just yards from his driveway and that wife Elin had smashed a window open with a golf club to get to him.

The mainstream and regional media outlets went crazy with running this story all day long, as it soon became worldwide news that the greatest golfer in the world, Tiger Woods, had been in a car accident.  My initial thoughts were, “Oh, my God! I hope Tiger is okay,” but then as the story unfolded, it seemed odd that Elin would smash his window open with a golf club to get to him. I then began to think, there is more to this story, they probably got into a very serious argument and she just lost it, chased him out of the house with a golf club, and then as Woods began to drive away, Elin smashed in his car window with the golf club, most likely assisting in causing the accident involving Tiger.

Then over the next few days, more news broke out as he had been cheating on his wife Elin with multiple mistresses over the years, as one-by-one began to come forward.  Shortly after everything came out into the public, Tiger gave a public apology to his wife, family, fellow golfers, and fans, as he withdrew himself from the PGA Tour and competitive golf in order to concentrate on his family and seek therapy for his “sex addiction.”

So, now that Tiger Woods was out of the professional golf scene, self-admitted into a sex therapy center, and was seemingly on track to rekindle all with wife Elin, his family, fellow golfers, and fans, the media was relentless in covering everything about Tiger Woods and literally ripping his life apart.  More porn stars, party girls, cocktail waitresses were coming out very vocally in the media and demanding all sorts of things from Tiger Woods, and as ridiculous as they were, the media continued to allocate hours and hours to these “opportunist” women.

I believe that society does look up to sports icons like Tiger Woods, who has inspired millions with his athleticism, charitable giving, and more. Yet, he made a mistake, actually several of them over the course of a few years. Tiger let fame, wealth, and opportunity corrupt him, as he fell prey to the many vices that surround him daily.  However terrible it all was, there as been much worse acts committed by multiple celebrities, politicians, and athletes over the years, yet none of them have received anything close to the amount of attention played against Tiger Woods.

I am not suggesting that Tiger Woods should get a free pass on his wrong-doings, yet what he did is over now, and it’s been nearly eight months since the story broke out, yet Tiger Woods cheating on his wife is still a main subject in the popular media today. Really guys? For instance, when Tiger Woods was recently in Ireland for a pro-am golf outing, he was hounded by the press about his “cheating” and “mistakes” he made.  Tiger is there to play “golf,” not answer to personal life matters with someone like, Dr. Phil.  Obviously he is going to be paying for his “mistakes” financially and emotionally for the rest of his life, i.e. 0 million in a divorce settlement with Elin about to be finalized.

Maybe one of Tiger’s bigger mistakes was getting married so young? It happens to millions of people worldwide, they marry early on, realize they maybe should of waited longer, and/or do stupid things like cheat on the one you supposedly love and wish to be with the rest of your life.  But to be dragged through the mud for months is just getting very old to have to see and hear daily!

Not many people do take into account the many millions Tiger Woods’ charity has given out over the years and all the good he does for society and children worldwide.  Most people believe in second chances.  I think it is worth at least sitting on the sidelines and seeing how Tiger Woods will bounce back… if at all. But, he should be given a fair shot to do so in the mean time by the media, fellow golfers, fans, and even family.

So, when Tiger is at a golf tournament, questions should be about his “golf game,” and NOT about cheating on his wife, etc.  When in public and away from a golf course, Tiger Woods is fair game for scrutiny and questions about his personal life, even though it’s none of our business.

All I am saying is that the media should be covering Tiger Woods golf news, since that is all he is doing now. His personal life, we pretty much know all there is to know already, so, thank you mainstream media for the 24/7 coverage to date that Tiger cheated on his wife, he may have a love child with porn star, or another alleged mistress (opportunist) claims relationship with him, and so much more.

There should be some balance in reporting on Tiger Woods golf, charitable, and personal life news… I am saying is that people at large are getting very sick of hearing the same old news everyday. Hopefully, the media will catch a clue and move on like the rest of us…

Virtual Golf And Swing Analyzer Can Keep You Technically, Physically And Mentally Fresh

Virtual Golf And Swing Analyzer Can Keep You Technically, Physically And Mentally Fresh

One might suppose that playing golf video games all winter long may help strengthen your grip. You know, get those fingers and thumbs working. Maybe playing miniature golf indoors could improve your putting, especially if your beloved course chooses to level out every green. I’m being sarcastic, of course.

But really, what exactly are you really doing to improve your golf technique during the winter? Isn’t it every single springtime you’ll have to pretty much start over yet again, warming up your swing, making oh-so-slight changes in your stance and so on? What a ineffective routine! Every spring, you move through the identical ineffective routine: warming up the swing, enduring embarrassing hooks and sore muscles; yelling out profanities on the green and nearly yanking out your hair.

You know, you can keep your golf game hot during the cold. You’ll remain in your prime and even discover growth when the ice just starts to melt from the fairway.

Stay Physically Sharp With Virtual Golf:

So maybe you’re not as in-shape as Tiger Woods, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t maintain your muscle memory for your golf swing.

Each and every winter season, when you tuck your golf clubs in for a long winter’s rest, your golfing performance also falls into hibernation too. After that, when your muscles are rudely woken up from that very first swing of the new golf season, its memory sometimes suffers from amnesia.

Now, you’re left guessing where your game went. In scientific circles, that’s known as atrophy – when muscles degenerate, decline, or decrease, as from disuse. In layman’s terminology, atrophy means you should to use it, or lose it.

By keeping you muscles active, you can stop your golf game from sliding. You can do this by playing as if you were on a real course.

Obviously, golf courses aren’t the best places to be when it’s frigid out. Fortunately, technologically experienced golfers have already invented a solution called the virtual golf. Golfers can stay warm and comfy inside and keep their game sharp.

Virtual Golf Keeps You Psychologically Prepared:

A great golfer known as Bobby Jones once stated that golf is a game that is played on a five-inch course – the distance between your ears. What virtual golf can do for a golfer is keep this five-inch course prepared.

New and different situations create anxiety. Stress and tension can have a destructive effect on your golf game. Therefore, what more effective way to cope with high-pressure situations than to become more familiar with them? You may find yourself in challenging predicaments playing virtual golf such as having to carry 180 yards of water, hitting a tight fairway or sticking your shot on an island green. Having confronted these mental tests virtually, you will be far better ready throughout the summer time to tackle related situations. Virtual golf can train you to stay loose and comfortable in any situation.

The Golf Swing Analyzer Can Help You Stay Technically Sound:

Golf swing analyzer systems built into golf simulators can help golfers make advancements in their game. Taking golf swings consistently may keep you in “golf shape,” and digging yourself out of difficult scenarios may keep you mentally keen. But, in the end you may be looking for that discovery in you game.}

Without correct coaching, golfers can find themselves running into an invisible wall with their technique. The difference between a average Joe and a pro is what occurs during the impact of the club against the ball.

A golf swing analyzer lets you witness the spin, launch angle, club head speed, ball speed, direction, club face angle, and club path angle of your shot when the club strikes the ball. The onslaught of feedback by the golf swing analyzer seems overwhelming, but it allows you to polish your swing to perfection.

By putting your golf game on hold in the winter, you have to eventually come back from that horrid golf-less opening on the calendar. Virtual golf is the remedy to keep your golfing technique fresh.

Memorial Lessons From Tiger

Memorial Lessons From Tiger

Article by Charlie G Wallace

What a stunning performance from Tiger Woods at the Memorial event in Ohio on Sunday. Four strokes off the lead at the start of the final day, Tiger blazed his way to the top of the leaderboard and then held off challenges from both Jim Furyk and Jonathon Byrd to win his fourth Memorial title.

I watched the closing holes from about the 14th and saw Tiger taking out the opposition with a birdie on the 18th hole after a brilliant approach shot. He is definitely a man for the big occasion and big events and he instinctively knows when, and how to apply pressure on his opponents.

I know there are some who don’t like Tiger, but I am a big fan. We are lucky enough to be witnessing one of the best golfers ever in Tiger and one just has to admire the way he plays the game.

What can we learn from Tiger’s performance that could be useful to our games as golf beginners or seasoned players?

There are three things that stand out for me about Tiger on Sunday;

1. His desire to win2. His ability to get the job done, and3. His phenomenal success rate off the tee in the final round.

Just focussing on the third of these, Tiger hit the fairways on every occasion he was required to. 100% fairways in regulation and the TV commentators (which included Nick Faldo) rated his final round as one of his best ever.

If you’re anything like me, consistency off the tee is more of an aspiration than a reality. I do sometimes get it right and sometimes my drives are OK, but I’ve a tendency to hook and slice and I usually have some of each in the course of my rounds.

I always have a smile when I see the pros spraying their drives left or right. It reassures me that even the best can do it, and of course, Tiger is no stranger to these errors. In recent times he has been guilty of them quite often.

Some pundits reckon that he attempts to hit the driver a lot harder in tour events than he does in practice. He doesn’t take his practice drives to the course when he plays in competitions. By all accounts, he did on Sunday. He wasn’t thrashing the drives and consequently he ended up on the fairway every time he needed to.

This tells us two things;

1. That it is important to identify and recognise important elements of our games that need correcting;driving, approach shots, pitching, chipping or putting and doing something about them, and

2. That controlled drives off the tee landing on the fairway will (should) produce a better round of golf and lower scores. [The corollary of this, of course, is that the controlled shots practiced on the range are the ones we should use on the course. There is no point in learning and practicing to do something and then doing something else when you take your game public.]

After my game at the weekend I know that my putting let me down, and if I had landed on the fairway more frequently, I could have shaved 5 to 7 shots off my score. Something to look forward to next time, hey? There’s always something that keeps us coming back.

Swing Like Tiger

Swing Like Tiger

Are you trying to swing like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and other famous golf players? Every golf players wants to make a handsome swing by imitating the Super star. While many good players have very different looking golf swings, (Callaway Big Bertha Diablo Fairway Wood) but they all have two things in common during their impact position:

Good players retain wrist-cock through the impact zone, as well as maintain a strong solid base during the hitting area. These two areas of the golf swing set the good player apart from the high-handicapper.

Proper wrist-cock maintains lag, increases power: To create lag, the left wrist needs to be bowed upon impact allowing the hands to be slightly ahead of the ball upon impact. This causes a late hit, or “lag,” which all good players use to create the power in their golf swings.

High-handicapper golfers tend to do the opposite by releasing the hands early instead of having the hands ahead of the ball upon impact. (Callaway FT Fairway Woods) They collapse the left wrist causing the club head to move past the hands before impact. This scooping action creates a tremendous loss of power resulting in loss of distance with the driver and miss-hits with the irons.

To create a late hit, your hands need to arrive at impact before the club head. The best way to achieve this position is to practice hitting balls with a heavy club.

The heavy “practice club” forces your hands to lead the club head through the hitting area. It also is a great way to build up your strength and swing speed, creating additional power. Try it. It works!

Strong solid base upon impact: To create power during a golf swing, golfers need to have a solid base as they strike the ball. In all sports, a solid base creates power.

When a boxer throws a punch, it starts with the power in the lower body. As they start to punch, they step off their back foot and throw their weight into the direction of the punch. The legs are slightly bent, but there is tension within them, (Callaway Hyper X Left Fairway Woods) which helps keep the lower body in a powerful position.

The same tension in the lower body should be maintained during the impact position in the golf swing. Currently we hear this concerning Tiger Woods upon his return from reconstructive knee surgery. Before his recent surgery he could not maintain a sold base as he moved to his left side during impact. Golf analysts now describe his lower body action as much improved because of his solid leg action.

These Golf Exercises Will Have You Hitting It Like Tiger.not That The Golf Ball Silly

These Golf Exercises Will Have You Hitting It Like Tiger.not That The Golf Ball Silly

The old days of the unfit golfer have gone for ever .Even if you are just a social golfer doing simple routines that will improve your game make sense.

The golf strengthening and conditioning exercises I am going to give you on this page will improve your game and have you feeling fitter and stronger.

The game of golf is now played in a much more athletic way then is was in the past. Players like Tiger Woods and Greg Norman have brought athleticism and fitness to the game. The routines in the gym that modern players like Tiger and Greg use have proven to be just as important as the time they spend practising on course.

Along with some gym exercises I am also going to give you some great stretching exercises that you can do at home or the office.

I will start with the all time best stretching exercises for Golfers.

 Stretch 1: The Oblique Twist

STEP 1: Sit down and slowly lower your back on to the ground until you are as fat as a pancake. Put your hands out directly from your shoulders to form a t shape, then lower them a little so your hands are pointing about 1 foot wide of your feet.

STEP 2: Raise your legs up whilst keeping your torso completely still, and then lower both legs to one side of your body. The key thing is to keep your upper body quite straight and rigid, as this will strengthen your obliques.

STEP 3: Simply lift your legs back up to the centre position and then lower down again to the other side.

By holding, your legs in the centre position for 30 or 40 seconds each time you will further strengthen your core.

Think about this exercise and then think about the motion your body goes through when you are hitting a shot. The twist with each golf shot put pressure on the obliques so strengthening them up has to make sense.

Stretch 2: The Oblique push down

STEP 1: Lie flat on your back and then bend your knees in towards your buttocks. Lock your fingers and place them behind your neck. like you are about to do a sit up.

STEP 2: Twist your left shoulder towards your left knee until the middle part of your back begins to lift off the floor. Twist until you feel a strain on your abdominals and hold for about 20 seconds.

STEP 3: Return back to your starting position and repeat on the other side.

Dumbbell Exercises

 Exercise one: Wrist Grip Power

STEP 1: Grab a dumbbell with each hand that is light and grip tightly, then hold each weight down against your sides. Lift both weights upward until your elbows are at 90 degrees and hold for 5 seconds.

STEP 2: Whilst tensing your arms and forearms simply twist your wrists at the same time in and then out.

As simple as this exercise sounds it will strengthen you wrists quickly and give you more control when chipping and driving.

 Exercise Two: Stance Power

This exercise will strengthen your quads and your hamstrings, which both play a role when you drive a golf ball.

STEP 1: Stand with your feet shoulder length apart, and hold the same light pair of dumbbells. Lower the dumbbells down against your sides about 10 centimetres wide from your thighs.

STEP 2: Bend down at your knees and stabilize, then spring up into the air. Land down in the knees bent position when you come down and repeat for 20 repetitions.

Over the next few days, I will detail a number of additional golfing stretches and weight routines. The main muscle groups that we will cover in the routines are the hamstrings, glutes, quadriceps, trapezius, triceps, abdominals and the rectus.

Using the exercises described above with the additional ones that I would publish shortly about three times a week will improve your power and endurance quickly.

How to Hit Your Golf Tee Shots Long and Straight

How to Hit Your Golf Tee Shots Long and Straight

Article by Golfdiscountsale2

The golf tee shot is your first shot on each hole out on the golf course. Typically, on par 4s and par 5s, you’ll hit your driver for your tee shot. Many golfers want to be able to hit the ball farther off the tee. Added distance with your driver will allow you to hit shorter irons into greens and generally help you score better. One helpful tip for driving the golf ball farther off the tee is to setup up with your spine angle tilted slightly to the right. With the driver, you want to hit the ball sligtly on the upswing. Setting up with your spine tilted back will help you launch the golf ball high and give you more distance off the tee.Setting up with your weight a touch more on your back foot can also be helpful with your driver. Play the ball all the way off of your left or front heel for best results. If you play the ball too far back in your stance with your driver, you’ll end up de-lofting the club even more and may have trouble getting it up into the air.The pros on tour average 61% driving accuracy with hitting the fairways. The key with your tee shots is to hit it relatively close to the fairway so you are still in play and can manage a decent approach shot to the green. Some people struggle with their driver off the tee and are even afraid to hit it. The reason the driver tends to be a harder club to hit is because it is longer and there is the least amount of loft with this clubhead. The more loft the golf club has, the higher it will go but it the golf ball won’t go as far.You need a proper stance and ball position to learn how to drive a golf ball straight. According to Tiger Woods, there are two reasons golfers do not know how hit the driver straight off of the tee box. He says golfers either place the ball too far back in their stance and/or too far away from their body. Bottom line, you need to have a proper golf stance to learn how to hit a tee shot straight and drive the ball like Tiger.Let’s discuss how to get the ball the proper distance away from your body. This is essential to learning how to hit a golf ball straight off the tee box.1. Your grip should hang beneath and slightly forward of your shoulders at address. 2. Any further forward and you are likely to have a pronounced inside to inside swing that will lead to strong draws or hooks. 3. Any closer to your body and you will tend to have a pronounced outside to outside swing that will lead to strong fades or slices. many golfers have trouble figuring out how to aim a golf shot. You should aim a drawn line on golf ball down the target line. This ball then help your body align from top to bottom starting with your golf foot position on up to your golf shoulder alignment. It also helps you with your golf club head position at address. Then, during the setup you can place the golf club so that the aiming mark on the driver, wood or hybrid lines up with the drawn line on the ball. (Mizuno JPX Fairway Wood) Then you can know that my club is aiming down the target line. This is essential to learning how to drive a golf ball straight. Really, it is an unfair advantage for any situation where you can place the golf ball before you hit it. However, master your driver and you’ll take tons of pressure off the rest of your golf game. It’s a whole lot easier playing from the fairways than it is playing from in the trees. (TaylorMade R9 Driver) When you’re hitting from the fairways, you’ll tend to hit more greens than you would from out of the rough or not in the fairway. Get some basic driver fundamentals worked into your golf swing and start playing better golf today.

Learn To Relax Like Tiger

Learn To Relax Like Tiger

Learn to relax like Tiger

If there is one period in Woods’ career that shows his true dominance, it has to start with his victory at the Memorial Tournament in June 1999 when Woods went on to record one of the greatest sustained periods of excellence in men’s golf history as he went on to capture 17 PGA Tour titles in the two calendar years that followed. Overall, he won 32 PGA championships in the next five calendar years, an amazing feet that has not been in professional golf in decades.

Tiger Woods turned up the heat on the back nine yesterday to build a commanding lead of four strokes going into the weekend of the US PGA Championship at Hazeltine – the year’s final major. At seven under par, we haven’t seen him this relaxed, in control and so full of confidence for some time. His game looks better than ever.

We have seen over the career of Woods that his game can be so complete that he can win events, even majors, when he is not playing well. This was the case just three weeks ago when he won the Buick Invitational and last week he looked vulnerable off the tee until the weekend. Two 65s on Saturday and Sunday, another win, and a dominating first two rounds this week and his game looks back in tip top shape.

We all know that a just small change in our swings, can feel like a massive upheaval, even though it may not be noticeable to the untrained eye. However, I would suggest that Tiger’s swing has changed enough in two weeks that anyone could see the difference.

If you’ve watched him closely, as I have over the years, you will have seen him get out of position and hit the ball incredibly wide with a driver, both left and right. And you must have seen him finish his swing with only one hand on the club and spinning on his feet? But his game over the last two days has been measured and controlled. This is something that he searches for all the time and you may wonder how it can come and go so quickly for even the best player in the world?

The difference for him can be something as small as the ball position being one-quarter of an inch too far forward or back in his stance or his hands just a tad ahead or behind the ball at impact.

Mistakes like these will have a knock on effect and cause a player to have to ‘work the club’ through impact with their hands to compensate. As a result the timing can get out of sync and inconsistency becomes the result.

So far this week Tiger Woods has been swinging fantastically. The overall look to his swing is the same but over the weekend watch two things from which you can learn and perhaps introduce into your own game.

*Notice the pace of his take-away from the ball and his transition from backswing to downswing.

*Another indication is the ease of the finish of his swing. His arms and body just arrive at the end together and look controlled.

Once a player feels that his game is where he wants it, it’s known on the circuit as ‘ in the slot,’ and real confidence will follow and for a Tour pro that allows him to relax and execute his swing with predictable and reliable results. Grip pressure and tension in the hands is no longer there and a player can control distance, trajectory and spin because he’s relaxed. That relaxed grip pressure even increases the distance we can the ball.

To test this, try this little experiment from the tee this weekend. Throw two balls as far down the fairway as you can – hold one tightly and one softly and see which one goes further! It’s the same when hammering in a nail. See how well the action performs when you hold the golf club lightly as opposed to tightly. This is how effortless power and speed is created.

Tiger is in balance, relaxed and confident and I don’t expect him to release his grip on the trophy, however firmly he’s got one hand on it. But with the quality of field behind him, including Harrington, Fisher, Glover and Singh – we know that golf’s a funny old game and confidence can leave as quickly as it arrives.
