Which Of The Top Rated Golf Drivers Would You Put In Your Bag?

Article by Shawni Groezinger

The top ten golf drivers in the market today vary in terms of characteristics and appeal. Certain brands may be considered the best depending on golfers’ capabilities and personal preferences. There are outstanding drivers for seasoned golfers, and there are ultra forgiving options for those with a high handicap. There’s the best budget driver, there’s the brand that is the epitome of cool (with cool celebrity endorsers to boot) and there are those that definitely help golfers realize their full potential. Most professional golfers want a golf driver that has solid technology. It doesn’t make sense to settle for subpar Examples include the Callaway FTiQ, the Williams Golf Players Driver FW32, and the Ping G5 Driver. The latter embodies drivers that are easy to hit. You’d have to make a really bad swing to get a poor result from a driver like the Ping G5, which offers an unyielding, responsive feel and sharp trajectory. Incidentally, Ping has also made innovations in drivers aimed at improving the game of women golfers, especially those who want longer, straighter drives and hit with confidence on any fairway. Indeed, it is the right mixes of equipment that help golfers make the most of their game.

Meantime, drivers like the Callaway FTiQ have been rated as one of the top ten golf drivers, in terms of accuracy, forgiveness, and quality. The tradeoff may be the unusual shape, yet other styles launched in the market, like the X460, offer avid golfers a uniquely balanced, all-titanium option that not only delivers great ball speed, deep drive, and stability, but is’t embarrassing to have in the golf bag. Speaking of looks, a golf driver that seems to have it all, from sleek looks to near-perfect accuracy, to build quality and overall value for money is the TaylorMade R9. As record-setting American pro golfer Jack Nicklaus once said, golf is a game of power. Well, the TaylorMade R9 is one of the drivers that offer power. Some golfers have a love affair with specific brands, and the TaylorMade Tour Burner has figured highly in many players’ lives. Another favored option from Callaway, the Big Bertha Driver, is noted for its oversized head. The all-titanium driver was introduced by Callaway in 1995 and has since undergone product enhancements to suit golfer requirements. Modern technology has made possible greater distance and forgiveness and weight that have been redistributed to the perimeter. Leave it to Callaway to create drivers that’s lightweight yet can increase speed and distance of the ball.

As far as novice players are concerned, key factors when choosing a driver is ease of use. Even newbies out playing golf during weekends want to show off to friends or pros that they can play well, so they invest in a fabulous-looking and powerful driver they can rely on to enhance their game. Those that offer a mix of balance, durability, and ease of use, in all-titanium or combination of titanium and other non-metal materials, emerge as popular options. Indeed, golf drivers and other equipment that combine several characteristics from good shape and length to accuracy, speed, quality and value for money.

The origin of golf as the game we know today can be traced back to the mid 1600s in Scotland. From there its popularity spread across countries and continents and is now played all over the world. With the increasing popularity of the game, the demand for golfing equipment grew and several sporting goods manufacturers entered this niche market to cash in on the customer demand.

Golf clubs are an important part of the equipment. From drivers, irons, wedges and putters, there are various types of golf clubs that each golfer carries in his set. So which brands of clubs are considered the best? Here is a rundown on the top five in alphabetical order based on reviews.

<span style=”text-decoration: underline”>Callaway</span>

Since 1982, the company has been making a range of golfing equipment and accessories. It was initially famous as the best brand for beginners as its range of clubs were considered forgiving. Soon with endorsements from professional golfers such as Phil Mickelson, the Callaway brand improved its status. The brand gained the spotlight when it came out with the Big Bertha range of clubs. The current favorite among golfers is the Callaway X460, an all titanium 460cc driver that enables longer and straighter tee shots.

<span style=”text-decoration: underline”>Cobra</span>

This brand of golf clubs has been available in the market since 1972. It gained fame due to the Baffler range of clubs. Among the professional golfers who have endorsed Cobra in the past was Greg Norman, the former world number one. The brand has been taken over by Puma in early 2010. Current top sellers of this brand include the King Cobra and the Cobra S9 range of irons.

<span style=”text-decoration: underline”>Nike</span>

Although it was already an established sporting goods brand, Nike ventured into Golf only in 1984. Nike Golf is perhaps popular as a brand due to its endorser Tiger Woods with whom the company had signed a twenty year contract in 1985. The sporting brand manufacturer has been a popular brand for irons and its current range of Slingshot irons is a hot seller.

<span style=”text-decoration: underline”>TaylorMade</span>

The TaylorMade Metalwood clubs were the first to use metal in the manufacture of golf clubs in 1979. Until then, persimmon and wooden clubs were widely used. The ability of the metal club to drive the ball faster made this brand increasingly popular. At present, TaylorMade is a subsidiary of the German sporting giant Adidas. Latest clubs from the company’s stable include the 2010 TaylorMade Burner TP irons.

<span style=”text-decoration: underline”>Titleist</span>

Since 1962, the Acushnet Company, which owns the Titleist brand has been manufacturing and selling golf clubs. The company is best known for its Scotty Cameron range of clubs. In fact, Tiger Woods used this brand before Nike signed him on.

Would You Be in Trouble for Callaway FT-5 Driver?

Would You Be in Trouble for Callaway FT-5 Driver?

Article by Cheapgolf

When it comes to golf drivers, players are often looking for the latest technology mixed with tradition. A lot of golfers seem to look for drivers that are customized to their personal playing style as well.

An example of a driver that incorporates advanced technology with a traditional club is the Callaway FT-5 Driver. It is an evolution in club head design utilizing Callaway’s revolutionary Fusion Technology.

The Callaway FT-5 Driver features the proprietary Fusion Technology that creates an unprecedented 50 grams of discretionary weight which is strategically positioned for a high Moment of Inertia (MOI) and precise lateral location of the centre of gravity (CG). This provides exceptional stability on off-centre hits, while enabling ball flight customization for optimal individual performance. The 25-gram weight located at the rear of the driver lowers the CG for optimal trajectory.

It also comes with the OptiFit Weighting System that enable golfers to customize their driver by giving them three CG locations to choose from in most lofts such as Draw for promoting a draw or reducing a slice/fade; Neutral for maximum workability; or Fade for promoting a fade or reducing a hook/draw. The larger, more robust CT/VFT (modified version of VFT Technology) Titanium cup face is designed specifically to maximize performance to the legal limit, as defined by the USGA Characteristic Time test, resulting in increased ball speed, distance and forgiveness, even on miss-hits.

The FT-5 Driver has a slightly open face for a look preferred by more accomplished players for producing exceptional distance, performance, accuracy and confidence. It also has a 460cc head volume is incorporated with a longer, wider and hotter face for more confidence at address, a higher MOI and increased ball speed for longer, straighter drives. The head is made in 9, 10, 11, and 13 degree lofts. Loft usually is measured in degrees, of the angle at which the face of the club lies relative to a perfectly vertical face. Technically, iron loft and wood loft are measured slightly different, but the effective result is the same. Loft gives you an idea of how far and how high the ball will go. It also comes with the standard Fujikura E-150 shaft which has a 45 inches length. This shaft comes in light, regular and stiff.

The driver itself looks a little cleaner than the origional FT-3, it was a little longer from front to back that gave it a little more modern shape without going to extremes like the FT-i. When I hit it, boy did it hit hard! The ball went high and straight as advertised and had more carry than any other driver I had tried. I was testing the 9* Stiff version and also got to hit their tour model. The tour model features a higher center of gravity, square to open face with neutral to fade weighting. This allows the better player to work the ball better and really get through the ball without the fear of hitting a big hook! I was able to work the ball with both, but had a better time hitting a draw with the standard version and a better time hitting a fade with the tour version for obvious reasons.

Overall, a solid driver that offers a lot of technology and more options than Baskin-Robbins. The Callaway FT-5 might feel different, sound different and hurt the wallet but there aren’t many better drivers on the market.
