Not Slicing the Golf Ball Takes Careful Understanding

Not Slicing the Golf Ball Takes Careful Understanding

In order to slice a golf ball (impart a left to right ball flight for a right handed golfer) you have to strike the golf ball in a manner that will cause a clockwise rotation of the ball. The more dramatic the rotation the more dramatic or worse the golf slice.

For the context of this article, I will speak from a right handed golfer’s swing and perspective.

When defining the golf slice there are a couple of basics characteristics to the ball flight. First, there is the slice that initially may start down the target line then move off line in a left to right movement. This type of slice tells us that the swing path was traveling down the intended target line, but at impact the club face was left open and did not get back to a square position at impact. Usually this type of golf slice doesn’t produce as sever of left to right movement of the golf ball since the swing path itself was not cutting across the ball in an outside to inside manner. This type of slicing of the golf ball is more easily cured. And can usually be done so with a bit of work on the golfer’s setup, alignment, and or grip.

The second type of golf slice is the one that plagues the vast majority of beginning and high handicap golfer’s. This is the type of slice that produces the ‘banana ball’ type of flight and is very uncontrollable and frustrating.

The attributes of this type of slice for the golfer are the ball will initially start left of the target line indicating that the swing path is incorrect right from the get go. When the ball immediately begins left of the target line that tells you that your swing path has come from the outside to the inside.

Now, having done that with your swing, doesn’t necessarily guarantee that you are going to slice the golf ball but you sure have made much easier for a slice to occur. Now combine the outside to inside swing path with an open clubface at impact and you now have a golf shot that starts left and has the double whammy of a slicing swing path across the golf ball, and an open club face. With these two laws of physics going for you; you have just produced one beautiful slice. One that only a proud parent could love! You know the one I’m talking about. The ball that travels 300 yards total distance, but only about 220 yards further down the course (if you can find it all).

A golfer who is plagued with this type of golf slice is going to require quite a bit more work in order to correct this because their basic swing is flawed and must be corrected. But, it’s important to understand what it is in your golf swing and your golf swing mechanics that makes the ball do what it does. Once you understand the 9 rules of ball flight you’ll be more able to understand what it is in your swing that is producing the flight of the ball you are seeing, and as such you can more quickly address and adjust to ensure success.

Working The Ball – Fade, Draw, High, Low

Working The Ball – Fade, Draw, High, Low

Although at times it seems like the golf ball when hit chooses its own flight path, this is not true the ball only responds to how it was hit. Was it hit by a square, closed or open club face, was it hit with 21 degrees or 34 degrees of loft, was the club head traveling at 80 miles per hour or 100 miles per hour. It is really all a matter of physics.

What if those different ball flights and the conditions that created them could be controlled? The good news is they can, and once you know how to create the exact ball flight you need for the shot at hand, you have many more weapons at your disposal to put the ball where you want it. The better news is it only requires small variations of the your regular full golf swing to create these shots.

These are the nine different ball flights you would want to know how to create;

Straight with normal trajectory, this is the shot you want to use if there is no trouble to avoid, you just need the ball in the middle of the fairway. Straight with higher than normal trajectory, this shot could be used if you had some obstacle, such as a tree you wanted to go over.
Straight with lower than normal trajectory, maybe you need to stay under some branches, or you want to keep it lower going into the wind.
slight movement to the right, highly skilled players who use this shot can control how much it moves to the right. Possibly the pin is on the right side of the green, you might want the ball to start at the middle of the green, but work to the right.
A fade with a high flight, might be used if that right pin placement is behind a front trap.
A fade with a low ball flight, how about trees with low branches in front of you and the fairway or green to your right.
Moving to the left this is called a draw, (again for a right handed shot) not to be confused with a hook, the draw is a controlled movement to the left and is said to produce the most roll.
A draw with a high flight, now the pin is to the left and tucked behind a sand trap.
A draw with a low flight, same scenario as the low fade, only you need to get to the left.

You see these shots attempted every week on the pro tours, not always as planned. Some of the players are not adept at creating all of these shots, those who are have more weapons to choose from.

Investing the time and practice necessary for learning to execute these shots as needed will make your game better and lower your scores. You will have much more confidence in your golfing ability, and be part of an elite group, not many recreational golfers are skilled at working the ball effectively.

Odyssey Backstryke 2 Ball Putter helps you fall in love with the season

Odyssey Backstryke 2 Ball Putter helps you fall in love with the season

Article by Golfdiscount

Callaway Golf’s putter division- Odyssey Golf- has been making putters for some time. They have gained a huge following with amateurs and professionals all over the world with their popular putting instruments. As the modern golf ball has evolved from a wound construction to a 2 piece, 3 piece and 4 piece design, they have also become harder and harder. To counteract this trend, Odyssey started making putters with inserts in the face to provide a softer feel. While they were not the only manufacturer to make insert putters, Odyssey’s inserts were the best feeling, and they quickly rose to the top of the very competitive putter market. An extended mallet head with legendary 2-ball alignment technology and a Stroke Balance shaft. The new Backstryke 2-Ball is a putter so revolutionary it just might improve your stroke, put your mind at ease, and change the way you think about putting forever. Visable Face Alignment gives you a clear sight for parallel and perpendicular alignment aids, while Forward Press Stabalization delivers proper hand position and creates true roll and stability. Stroke balance ensures an in-line axis, which promotes the smoothest, most consistent stroke possible.Visible Face AlignmentAllows you to clearly see if the face of the putter is square to the target line, without the shaft impeding your line of sight. This provides an unprecedented visual aid in lining up putts to the target line for precision and accuracy.Forward Press StabilizationHands-forward position, without de-lofting, promotes an upward stroke into the ball. The shaft position also helps create a stable, straight line with your leading arm, so your wrists are less likely to break down during the stroke. This type of ascending stroke imparts topspin faster, generating true roll. The position of your hands also encourages a longer and lower follow-through for better consistency.Get more golf clubs at best price on sale at Discount Golf Clubs

How to Drive the Golf Ball Properly

How to Drive the Golf Ball Properly

My driver has always been the club that I have been most confident with. In order to drive the golf ball properly, you must first master the fundamentals of the swing.

When setting up to hit a drive, stand with your feet slightly greater than shoulder length apart, in an athletic stance, with your knees bent. The ball should be teed up in alignment with the inside of your left foot (for right handed golfers). Stand so that you do not need to reach too far in order for the clubface to be lined up with the ball. Your back should be slightly bent at an angle relative to your legs.

In order to consistently have a clean tee shot, don’t try to kill the ball! I see so many beginners walk up to the tee box, and swing at the ball with all their might. Usually the ball will end up sharply slicing or hooking, in either case, loosing a considerable amount of distance. Take a nice easy swing, especially on the backswing. Also, bring the club back so that it is parallel to the ground at the top of the backswing. It may even help to take a three quarter length swing to ensure that your club remains on the correct swing path.

Remember that most of your power will come from your torso; not your arms. It is therefore crucial to be conscious of keeping your swing in rhythm with you weight shift. Just like when hitting a baseball, your weight should shift from your back foot to your front foot as contact is being made with the ball.

Also, be sure to follow through completely. Do not try to stop the club right after making contact, as much power will be lost. When finishing, your left (front) food should still be planted onto the ground, and your body should be facing the target.

Kopanya- A Colourful Ball for a Rainbow Nation

Kopanya- A Colourful Ball for a Rainbow Nation

Article by Sam Walker

As the world cup draws near, few people will notice how significant the small little ball will be for South Africa’s Ndebele community. The official match ball of the 2010 tournament developed by the Adidas Company has been christened as ‘Kopanya’ meaning ‘join together’ in Sesotho, the language spoken by millions of people in South Africa. The unusual design of the ‘Kopanya’ includes the flag colours of all participating nations and has been inspired by the art form practiced by Ndebele people of South Africa.

Available in metallic white and multi-colour versions, Kopanya’s bright multi-coloured design consists of intricate shapes and black outlines reflecting typical Ndebele design. A silver polish provides a stylish touch to the ball. The design successfully blends tradition and modernity, symbolizing contemporary South African society. As a piece of sports equipment, Kopanya is fantastic. Wet and moist surfaces will not affect its performance as the ball is remarkably resistant to water uptake. The seamless casing offers better spin and the latex bladder inside the ball provides improved rebounding. It offers excellent ball control and takes flight exceptionally well as witnessed in the recent matches where Kopanya was used to test its effectiveness.

Ask your travel agent to book an exciting package deal that not only includes air tickets to South Africa but also hotel rooms and stadium tickets for crucial matches. Being in the centre of action with nearly hundred thousand spectators cheering for their favourite team will be an unforgettable experience.

As millions of tourists descend into South Africa next June, they are sure to witness world class infrastructure and hospitality awaiting them. Doubts were earlier raised about the country’s ability to fine tune its infrastructure before the tournament but South Africa has silenced them all. Get hold of economical air tickets to South Africa and once you land here, be prepared to experience a country that is blessed with a warm tropical climate and offers innumerable options for adventure enthusiasts like golf safaris, game safaris, trekking, mountaineering, backpacking and day hiking. So, whether you are on a romantic getaway or a vacation with family, South Africa is the place to be. Beaches, vineyards, wildlife sanctuaries and heritage sites, South Africa offers the best everything. However, don’t forget to carry miniature souvenirs of the ‘Kopanya’ which will serve as the perfect gift for your loved ones back home.

How to Hit the Golf Ball When it is Positioned Above Your Feet

How to Hit the Golf Ball When it is Positioned Above Your Feet

You get to your ball and you see that it lies above your feet at address. You smile to yourself and think of the fantastic shot you are about to play. Why, because this is considered to be one of the easiest shots in golf. If you follow the steps below, you will not hit the ground behind the ball anymore, and this shot will become your favourite shot in golf. So here we go.

Step 1: With this kind of shot the ball will always tend to draw so make sure that you compensate for this by aiming a little to the right.

Step 2: If you are one of those golfers that always seems to hit the ball a bit fat when it is above your feet, there is a very simple fix. Make sure that you are standing taller and straighter than your normal stance.

Step 4: This is one of the most important things to remember for this shot. Do not bend your knees. You should stand as straight as you possibly can.

Step 5: The other most important thing to remember is that the club will always want to swing flatter and around your body, which is exactly the type of swing you want for this shot. Do not try to make a normal swing as you will not get a good result.

That is all there is to it. If you can remember to follow these steps then this should become one of your favourite shots in golf. I hope this helped.

How to Hit the Golf Ball on an Uphill Lie

How to Hit the Golf Ball on an Uphill Lie

Uphill lies make the game of golf a bit more challenging. This happens when the ball is positioned level with your feet at address but the slope is uphill. Here we have a couple of simple tips to help you successfully execute a shot on an uphill lie.

The uphill lie is considered to be the easiest shot to play, but if you do struggle with this type of shot the reason for your problem may be that your angle of attack on the ball is too steep. This causes you to hit down into the ground and you hit the ball fat.

Before you hit your shot there are a couple of things you should keep in mind. Firstly, the angle of the slope will cause you to hit the ball a lot higher and shorter than you usually do. You should therefore select a club that has slightly less loft to cancel out the effect that the slope will have on your ball.

Secondly, you will notice that the ball will tend to draw slightly from an uphill lie and therefore you should aim a little right to compensate for this.

Thirdly, you should check your shoulder alignment. The ideal position for your shoulders to be in, is in a position parallel to the ground, ie. the same angle as the slope. Therefore your left shoulder should be positioned slightly higher than your right shoulder. This will prevent you from hitting the ball fat.

A very important thing to remember is that the position of the ball in your stance should be in the middle for the shorter irons and further forward for the longer ones.

Lastly, make sure that after impact you have a high follow through. This basically means let the path of your swing follow the angle of the slope on approach, through the contact area and after impact.

I hope this helps.

Learn to Drive a Golf Ball Far

Learn to Drive a Golf Ball Far

If you want to know how to drive a golf ball far, you don’t have to look beyond your own mirror. Don’t blame your clubs. Don’t blame your pro. Don’t blame your golf ball. Or, the harassing your golfing buddies give you on the tee. There’s only one thing keeping you from hitting the ball far. Can you guess what it is? If I’ve eliminated the above there is only one thing left.

The tee shot is the ego shot in golf. Learning how to drive a golf ball far is way up on the list for most beginning golfers. The only problem is most amateur and beginner golfers drive it way shorter than they want to, because their golf swing technique is not proper to encourage longer golf drives. I know you don’t want to hear that, but it’s the only thing left. I think you would agree your body swings the golf club right? If you don’t agree, you might want to pick up ping pong. One very effective way to quickly improve driving distance is to have a proper golf grip. The preference is a strong one so you can rotate the clubface over through impact encouraging a draw and more yards when it hits the ground.

It’s time to wake up and “get real” as Dr. Phil says. A body that is more limber and stronger. And nourished is a body that will hit the golf ball far, given you know how to swing a golf club, which most of you do. A body that is broken will have much inefficiency, causing a lack of distance, dozens of mishits per round, and a much higher score at the end of each round. This is where beginner golfers screw up. Instead of a spine angle away from the target at impact, many have either a vertical one, or even worse, one that is more towards the target, encouraging a descending blow resulting in pop ups. Golf is a sport that to play you need to buy a lot of golf equipment. So it’s very important that you must own some resources of golf discount superstore, because they can save your money on the equipment fees. If you are not careful, golf clubs are the single biggest expense that you face. I strongly recommend Callaway Big Bertha Golf Ball in golf store shop. So discount golf clubs can go a long way toward making this expensive game more affordable.
