Swinging Inside Boosts Yardage

By: Jack Moorehouse

Hitting for distance makes golf more enjoyable. Whether you have a low golf handicap or a high one, belting a 250-yard drive is a lot more fun than squeaking out a 190-yard drive. Hitting the long ball off the tee or from the fairway also changes the game strategically, especially when it comes to those long par fours and par fives. Even generating an extra 20 yards with your shots helps. Talk distance in a golf lesson and everyone suddenly perks up.

Swinging from the inside is the key to generating distance. A recent test conducted by a popular golf magazine indicates that golfers can generate as much as 42 extra yards by swinging from the inside. The experiment used a swing robot to simulate seven swing paths at slightly above-average speed. Inside and neutral swing paths averaged 42 yards more than outside swing paths. While you might question the experiment’s methodology, you can’t question its results: Swinging inside generates more distance.

Check Your Setup First

A poor setup drains power. So before doing anything, check your setup. In particular, check your grip, stance, and ball position. Make sure the crease between your thumbs and forefingers are parallel and pointing to the right side of your face, if you’re right-handed. Also, make sure your shoulders are parallel to your target line, with your front foot open just a bit, and your ball is positioned just in front of center for your irons and under your shirt logo for woods.

Common Swing Faults

Having checked your set up, you can now concentrate on eliminating faults that prevent you from taking an inside path to the ball and rob you of power. Below are five of the most common faults with some easy fixes:

Too Far Inside
Going too far inside causes you to re-route the club to the outside. Check your shoulders and your wrists. Your shoulders move the club around your body. Your wrists move the club vertically. Don’t just turn your shoulders around your body, like many players with high golf handicaps. Make sure you also hinge your wrists up.

Swaying
Swaying—sliding your back hip away from the target instead of turning the hip—causes a reverse pivot. That in turn causes a steep downswing, making it almost impossible to come down from the inside. You should be turning your back hip, not swaying. Stick an old shaft or a broomstick in the ground a couple of inches from your back hip. If your hip touches the shaft or stick during your backswing, you’re swaying.

Poor Turn
To maximize power, you must make a complete shoulder turn, as I mentioned in my golf tips. Focus on making at least a 90-degree turn with your front shoulder behind the ball. Lay a broomstick or club parallel to and just inside your back foot. When you turn, turn your shoulder so that the club shaft you’re holding runs parallel to the club shaft or broomstick on the ground.

Hanging Back
If you’re right-handed and your shots are going right of the target, your tendency is to swing more left. (Vice versa for left-handers.) The most common way of correcting this is hanging back on your right foot and scooping the ball off the ground. But that creates a slice. To swing from the inside, you must shift your weight forward. Stick an old shaft or broomstick in the ground so that it is touching your right side, and then practice making downswings. Your body should move forward and away from the shaft.

Casting
Casting is when you unhinge your wrists prematurely, as if you were slinging a fishing line. It promotes an over the top swing with weak impact. To eliminate casting, take the club back with both hands. Then hook the middle of the shaft with the index finger of your top hand. As you swing down, keep the hinge in your wrist by resisting the swing with your index finger. Remember this feeling when it’s time to hit the ball for real.

These five swing faults prevent your from swinging the club on an inside path. Others faults exist, such as not trapping the ball and not releasing the clubhead properly. You must eliminate these faults to swing from the inside—the key to generating extra distance. Generating more distance makes the game more fun, whether you have a high golf handicap or a low one. Don’t miss out on the fun.

Wanna Get Better At Your Golf Swing? Then Read This!

Wanna Get Better At Your Golf Swing? Then Read This!

Your swing should be one smooth, flowing motion. Swinging violently at the ball is the usual approach of beginners. They don’t realize the different parts of the swing are meant to be one motion. Think of the entire swing as a single musical motion to help improve it. The back swing would be the opening notes, the fore swing would be the next part, and the last part is the follow through. If you approach your swing with violence and only put raw strength behind it, you’re more likely to just slice or to send your ball flying with no hope of accuracy. Use the approach of smooth and lazy.

The inside of your right foot is where you need to place your body weight. The distribution of weight and body mechanics is important to learn as early as possible in your game. Of course you need power in your swings, and you’ll be able to have that much more when you’re resting on that leg/knee. Your ball will not be consistent as it travels if you do not have your weight properly displaced on your right knee. You must maintain that steadiness factor in your game. Your right leg needs to be strong and like some kind of Greek pillar, but relaxed.

Be sure you swing at it easier than normal when it’s windy. You can produce negative effects on your ball trajectory by hitting too hard when it’s windy. Remember what Greg Norman said, “swing easy into the breezy.” It’s easy to think that you need more force when the wind is working against you. Remember: not everything can be solved with force. Swinging easy helps you to maintain control over the ball. Wind can feel good, sure, but don’t let it take you down the wrong path. You can improve your golf swing in a number of different ways. Beginners are willing to pay good money to learn how they can improve their golf swing. There are many classes available, all with this primary goal. You can also improve your golf swing on your own by implementing these tips. If you want to improve your game even further, invest in high quality golf swing analysis software.

How to fix a golf slice-3 Golf Slice Cures

How to fix a golf slice-3 Golf Slice Cures

Article by Terry Gorry

In this article I am going to give you 3 cures to help you fix a golf slice. It is one of the major frustrations of 80% of golfers worldwide and costs a huge amount in the distance your ball travels.

Secret 1-Fix your set up

It is no secret that standing open in your set up will promote an out to in swing which in turn will give you that dreaded distance sapping slice. So make sure that your set up and alignment are spot on ie place a club along your toe line and make sure that it is running parallel, like rail tracks, with an imaginary line from your ball to the target.Initially you can even exaggerate this to fix your slice by standing a little closed ie with your right foot drawn back behind the left so that the line would be pointing right of the target.

Secret 2- Get a proper grip

For many starter golfers and even more accomplished players the grip, if it is too weak/neutral, can mean that coming in to impact your clubface is wide open..not square which will lead to a slice.Consider using a strong grip until you have rid yourself of the slice. By this I mean with your hands turned more to your right shoulder. This should encourage the clubface to square up earlier in the downswing and produce a ground gobbling draw.

Secret 3- Swing from in to out or in to square, not from out to in.

If the ball target line points at 12 o’clock on an imaginary clock, then you need to think about swinging towards 2 o’clock.

If you go to the range and work on these tips, you will lose your distance sapping slice/fade and be playing with a distance gaining draw very soon..and be the envy of your friends.

How to Correct a Golf Slice – Cure My Slice is the Cry of Golfers Worldwide

How to Correct a Golf Slice – Cure My Slice is the Cry of Golfers Worldwide

Article by Terry Gorry

In this article I am going to give you 2 quick tips as to how to correct a golf slice. They are aimed at the beginner golfer who has not experienced the pleasure of seeing their ball bend from right to left. But who recognises the need for more distance…right through the bag.

1. Release

To correct a golf slice and hit a draw you need a full and free release of the club through impact. This hand action, which is second nature to the professionals who have eaten their meals on the practice tee for years, involves letting the right hand and forearm release freely over the left through impact.

To get a good feeling for this hold the club up at waist height, with no ball to distract you, and swing back and forth slowly watching the opening and closing of the clubhead through the hitting area as you do so.

Then speed it up and experiment with speeding up and releasing earlier so that when you tee up your ball your clubhead will be closing through impact..thereby promoting a draw.

2. In to out Swing

To rid yourself of a slice you need to train and in to square to in path. But with a slice you are already swinging out to in in all likelihood so you need to exaggerate this cure by practicing swinging in to out.

To do this you can place a long tee in front of your ball but you must place it about 4/6 inches ahead and to the right of the ball-target line.

Then try to hit this tee in your follow through..it may be difficult at first but you will be swinging from in to out and giving yourself a great opportunity to hit a draw.

Repair the Golf Slice – the Major Key You Must Follow To Cure a Slice

Repair the Golf Slice – the Major Key You Must Follow To Cure a Slice

Article by Sean O’Kelly

The golf slice is among the most irritating challenges to correct for some golfers, but if the factors behind why a golf ball slices are plainly comprehended, solution is not very difficult. But before we give you the answer to remedy that slice, please take a few deep breaths and SLOW DOWN your swing. All will fall into place if you think three-quarter speed.

The foremost key now that we will deal with to correct the golf slice is correct swing path. Since your golf swing is circular, that is, the club head begins behind our head, swings around our body and ultimately ends up behind our head, it might appear physically impossible to not impart spin on a ball. But at the point of contact tend not to think circular. Ok, I’ll explain.

When looking down at the golf ball, picture the ball moving in flight. For the right handed golfer, if the ball is rotating in a clockwise course the ball will slice, or move in the direction toward which the ball is spinning. Naturally, for the left handed golfer the opposite holds. The aim to correct the golf slice would be to eliminate this spin.

How can we accomplish this? If, by looking straight down on the ball, we were to imagine it as being a clock with twelve o’clock being the direction we’d like the golf ball to go, if we were to make initial contact on the ball at seven o’clock and hit through the ball to the one o’clock location, we’d impart minimal spin on the golf ball, and thus giving the ball a straight flight, or possibly a counter clockwise, or hook spin.

Of course this would not be hard if not for the fact we are swinging, to some extent, around the body in somewhat of a circular action. So prior to impact and just right after, we should think about the club taking a virtually inside out path. This isn’t as challenging as it seems. To correct the golf slice, practice accomplishing a couple of things:

1. Close the stance somewhat. Basically, ensure that the front foot is a bit closer to the golf ball than the back foot.

2. Position the ball further back in your stance. Many of us have the propensity to move the ball forward, frequently even past our front foot, which makes it extremely hard to reach that “one o’clock” position on the golf ball. Regularly sticking to those two swing keys will do wonders for the fix the golf slice. Of course some practice to fine-tune those techniques for your swing will be necessary.
