How to Eliminate Back Pain – Information on Back Pain and Sciatica

Article by Julian Hooks

There are many causes for back pain. The most common is muscular strain caused by overuse of the back muscles. This would include lifting or lifting and twisting. Other causes of back pain include herniated discs, trauma, tumors and bone diseases.

Sciatica is simply an inflammation of the sciatic nerve which runs down each leg. It is a very large nerve and the main nerve to the legs. Sciatica occurs for many reasons as well. The most common reason for sciatica is some type of pressure on the sciatic nerve, generally caused by the herniation of a spinal disc in the lower back.

Herniation, slippage or movement of the discs between the vertebrae are common causes for pain in the back or neck areas.

The first course of action to back pain treatment is rest for a day or so, then do gentle stretching exercises designed to strengthen the low back. Often it is advised to take an over the counter anti inflammatory to treat your back pain, such as ibuprofen. It is important for everyone to learn to move and lift correctly. The knees should always be bent when picking up a dropped object as opposed to bending at the waist. Bending and twisting is also a major no-no. You need to turn your entire body, not twist at the waist to perform tasks.

If after a couple of weeks, the pain has not been relieved, it would be necessary to take on more aggressive back pain treatment. Generally, it would be a good idea to get an X-ray to check for structural or bone damage of the spine and if that is negative, an MRI would be recommended. An MRI, magnetic resonance imaging, would help indicate if any soft tissue damage is noted. Depending on the results of the MRI, a treatment therapy can be implemented.

If herniation of discs is indicated, physical therapy is often continued with treatment directed towards the afflicted disc or area of spine. Sometimes chiropractic care, whereas gentle spinal manipulations can help align the discs and relieve pressure.

If a bone spur or tumor or cyst is present, then surgery would be indicated. It is often recommended to see an orthopedist who specializes in diseases and conditions of the spine if this sort of ailment is involved. The spine specialist can then advise of the best type of surgery for your condition. Attempts at minimally invasive procedures would be examined first.

Other treatments would include injection of pain relieving medication into the soft tissue and/or epidural area, that is around the spine.

With proper diagnosis and treatment, patients can expect to enjoy pain free living.

These Golf Exercises Will Have You Hitting It Like Tiger.not That The Golf Ball Silly

The old days of the unfit golfer have gone for ever .Even if you are just a social golfer doing simple routines that will improve your game make sense.

The golf strengthening and conditioning exercises I am going to give you on this page will improve your game and have you feeling fitter and stronger.

The game of golf is now played in a much more athletic way then is was in the past. Players like Tiger Woods and Greg Norman have brought athleticism and fitness to the game. The routines in the gym that modern players like Tiger and Greg use have proven to be just as important as the time they spend practising on course.

Along with some gym exercises I am also going to give you some great stretching exercises that you can do at home or the office.

I will start with the all time best stretching exercises for Golfers.

 Stretch 1: The Oblique Twist

STEP 1: Sit down and slowly lower your back on to the ground until you are as fat as a pancake. Put your hands out directly from your shoulders to form a t shape, then lower them a little so your hands are pointing about 1 foot wide of your feet.

STEP 2: Raise your legs up whilst keeping your torso completely still, and then lower both legs to one side of your body. The key thing is to keep your upper body quite straight and rigid, as this will strengthen your obliques.

STEP 3: Simply lift your legs back up to the centre position and then lower down again to the other side.

By holding, your legs in the centre position for 30 or 40 seconds each time you will further strengthen your core.

Think about this exercise and then think about the motion your body goes through when you are hitting a shot. The twist with each golf shot put pressure on the obliques so strengthening them up has to make sense.

Stretch 2: The Oblique push down

STEP 1: Lie flat on your back and then bend your knees in towards your buttocks. Lock your fingers and place them behind your neck. like you are about to do a sit up.

STEP 2: Twist your left shoulder towards your left knee until the middle part of your back begins to lift off the floor. Twist until you feel a strain on your abdominals and hold for about 20 seconds.

STEP 3: Return back to your starting position and repeat on the other side.

Dumbbell Exercises

 Exercise one: Wrist Grip Power

STEP 1: Grab a dumbbell with each hand that is light and grip tightly, then hold each weight down against your sides. Lift both weights upward until your elbows are at 90 degrees and hold for 5 seconds.

STEP 2: Whilst tensing your arms and forearms simply twist your wrists at the same time in and then out.

As simple as this exercise sounds it will strengthen you wrists quickly and give you more control when chipping and driving.

 Exercise Two: Stance Power

This exercise will strengthen your quads and your hamstrings, which both play a role when you drive a golf ball.

STEP 1: Stand with your feet shoulder length apart, and hold the same light pair of dumbbells. Lower the dumbbells down against your sides about 10 centimetres wide from your thighs.

STEP 2: Bend down at your knees and stabilize, then spring up into the air. Land down in the knees bent position when you come down and repeat for 20 repetitions.

Over the next few days, I will detail a number of additional golfing stretches and weight routines. The main muscle groups that we will cover in the routines are the hamstrings, glutes, quadriceps, trapezius, triceps, abdominals and the rectus.

Using the exercises described above with the additional ones that I would publish shortly about three times a week will improve your power and endurance quickly.

How can you improve your structure to play better and safer golf?

Physical training improves structure

How can you improve your structure to play better and safer golf? A quick physiology lesson is at hand.

Earlier, I talk about fascia. More specifically, your body’s fascial system contributes to your flexibility, mobility, posture, and function. Fascia, or connective tissue, is everywhere; it is the net that holds your body together.

Fascia’s main job is to retain your body’s normal shape, providing resistance to various stresses. In order to change your body structure and improve your ability to play golf, you benefit most by following a specific sequence of physical training, called “Release, Reeducate, and Rebuild,” or, “The Story of Gary McCord’s Career”:

Release: First, you must release your connective-tissue restrictions. Specially designed flexibility exercises help reduce tension in the inelastic portion of the fascial system that resists lengthening. You must perform these stretching exercises at low intensity but for a prolonged duration. Many people with significant fascial tightness need to sustain a single flexibility exercise for a minimum of three to five minutes before the layers of fascia begin to relax. A gentle, sustained stretching technique is far more effective than a short-duration, intense stretch because it more effectively and permanently lengthens the tough connective tissue of the body.
Reeducate: As the fascial restrictions are being reduced, you need to reeducate your structure by doing specialized exercises aimed at improving posture, balance, stability, and control. These reeducation exercises help you capitalize on your improved flexibility by teaching you how to feel the positions in which your body is most functional. The goal for each golfer is to develop a new postural identity that produces a posture at address and swing mechanics that are safe, efficient, reproducible, and highly effective.
Rebuild: Last, you undergo a program of rebuilding exercises, or strengthening exercises designed to solidify and then reinforce your physical structure and dynamic swing motion. These exercises can also improve your swing speed for added distance and improve muscular endurance for better swing control and performance toward the end of a round and/or during longer practice sessions.

This is a must for you prospective golfers: Enhance your structure and improve your game!
