Golf tip: Shorten your follow-through on putts

When trying to hole short putts always putt with a positive stroke that accelerates through impact.

Sometimes, however, it doesn’t always go to plan with the short ones and, as I’ve seen many times in pro-ams and with my pupils, when a golfer tries too hard, he or she becomes tense and the putting stroke becomes undefined and wishy-washy.

Rather than accelerating positively towards the hole, the hands freeze, the putter decelerates through impact and the ball limply rolls off line. To hole more putts learn to make a more positive stroke.

I often read in instructional articles how golf pros advocate a stroke where the putter travels back and through the same distance – ideal in a perfect world. But this advice contains very little acceleration and the stroke can easily slip into a limp and weak effort where the putter head overtakes the hands. If you look at some of the great putters, who consistently hole out under pressure, there is a slight rapping tempo to the stroke, almost like a punch shot in golf.

This ensures that the hands are in control as the putter head accelerates into the ball. Study Tiger Woods (or Jack Nicklaus in his heyday) and one of the great pressure putters Ben Crenshaw. They all accelerate into the ball and have defined finish positions to their putting strokes.

If you are struggling on the greens and leave putts short, shorten the follow through to only two inches past the ball and putt with a ‘rapping tempo’ that encourages acceleration. Being able to curtail the follow through also means the hands are in control after impact and this helps keep the putter face squarer, longer.

TaylorMade Monza Spider Vicino SB Putter at golfsales365.com is great.

TaylorMade Monza Spider Vicino SB Putter was inspired by the numerous tour pros who asked for a putter that delivers the stability and true roll of a Monza Spider and Itsy Bitsy Monza Spider but in a cleaner, more streamlined more attractive shape. Fulfilling that request required a complete re-thinking of the clubhead construction, because a Monza Spider’s forgiveness is rooted in its ugly-duckling shape.

TaylorMade Monza Spider Vicino SB Putter succeeded by dramatically reducing core weight and increasing the frame’s weight, which boosted the perimeter-weighting to achieve the necessary MOI. In addition they incorporated a new composite AGSI+ face insert that flexes and “holds” the ball in its grooves better to promote more forward spin and better roll.

Widely praised Yes Marilyn Putter

Widely praised Yes Marilyn Putter

When a regular putter face impacts a golf ball it results in loft causing skidding, side- and even back-spinning before the ball can begin rolling forward on the green, this can’t be seen by the naked eye, but C-Grooves ‘lift’ the back of the ball to start it rolling forward. By gripping the back of the ball and lifting it forward on impact, the C-Grooves of a Yes putter create almost instant stabilization, causing the ball to roll forward much sooner than any other putter. The Yes Marilyn Putter is one of the C-Grooves technology putters

The C-Groove Marilyn model is a mallet-style putter made of 304 stainless steel. It features a compact mallet head that is face-balanced and perimeter weighted. Whether struck dead, a millimeter or even a quarter inch off center, the patented concentric edges on the C-Grove putter roll the ball sooner, for more consistent length and more consistent direction. That translates to more putts made, no matter the circumstances, no matter the pressure. This technology has been proven in thousands of comparison tests performed by professional and amateur golfers at over 100 PGA Tour Events worldwide and at major trade shows in the U.S. and Europe.

Features:  1. Used by YES! Staff player Laura Davies. 2. Three Sight lines for easy alignment. 3. 340 gram head weight; Loft: 2.5 degrees; Lie: 72 degrees std. (2 degrees flat or 2 degrees upright also available) 4. Double bend steel shaft. 5. Titanium carbon finish. 6. Available in RH or LH models, shaft lengths 32″ to 37″. 7. Custom fitted head cover. 8. Available in Pink.

This result has been proven using a computer controlled putting robot and high-speed cameras. Over a 20 foot putt, the C-Groove putter was tested by an independent testing company against several putter models of the major golf companies. In all cases, the C-Groove putter dramatically outperformed the competition.

Using the Yes C-Groove putter creates stabilization in the rolling motion dramatically sooner than any other putter. Forward rolling motion is as much as 6 times greater with the use of the Yes! C-Groove putter versus other putters. This result has been proven using a computer controlled putting robot and high-speed cameras. Golfers’ review:

I love my new “Marilyn” Yes putter. I ordered it for my golf bag in Florida and find I can not readjust to putting without it here in Chicago! I was out in CA and found it is very popular there also. We were all singing its praises.

Superb putter, nice weight, easy alignment and good grip, has given me a lot more confidence on the greens. Excellent feel and distance judgment. I would recommend it to anyone looks for putters which feel great and give you so much confidence on the greens.

I’ve used the Marilyn for over a year now and find it first rate. I own an original Ping Anser, Scottie Cameron and Odyssey 2-ball. All excellent putters but I prefer the Yes to all of them. I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone who has a problem with putting.

Quite simply it is the best putter I have every used. The ball rolls true and this year I have made more long putts and been a more consistent putter than ever before. If Yes! is ever looking for another salesperson – just give me a call.

This is truly the best putter I have ever used. The most immediate and noticeable aspect of this putter is how quickly it gets the ball rolling. There is virtually no skipping when the ball is struck, it simply goes into an immediate roll. It is so much fun to have this much confidence in my putting. I highly recommend (for any handicap) at least trying this brand of putter at your local pro shop or golf store (Golf Galaxy carries the Yes! brand) and see how the c-grooves roll the ball so quickly compared to any other brand! Be careful though because you will probably leave with a Yes putter! The Marilyn design is my favorite, easy to aim, looks great, instills confidence and feels great in my hands.

This is one of the nicest Mallet putters that I have had a chance to play. The lines help with alignment. The feel is muted when compared to a blade. In my opinion, it is the low loft and not the grooves that dictate the performance of this club. I get a truer roll and a better feel with this mallet. The matte finish really works out well – especially with the sun. I especially like the magnetic putter cover which does not come off like other covers (on their respective putter).

TaylorMade Rossa Corza Ghost Putter review

TaylorMade Rossa Corza Ghost Putter review

Article by Shelmay

The TaylorMade Rossa Corza Ghost Putter is the newest club in the TaylorMade short stick arsenal and it’s sure to scare some strokes off your score. These days some new shapes and styles of the TaylorMade Rossa Corza Ghost Putters come out, from minimalist blades to high-MOI potato mashers, but nearly all of them have either a metallic or darkened finish. But TaylorMade is set to release one of the most eye-catching putters in recent memory … and that’s the whole point of the Rossa Corza Ghost.

Let’s see its color. It is made of three sight lines on the crown and a hole in the back. The goal of the Corza Ghost was to make it the easiest putter ever to aim. The white color stands out in sharp contrast against the greens’ grass, so the topline and leading edge are easy to focus on. And because all the areas of the Ghost are white, there are no “hot spots” or portions of the putter that draw the golfer’s attention away from the leading edge.

I brought the Rossa Corza Ghost Putter out for the first time last Sunday with the hope of beating down Mr. John Duval writer of intothegrain.com. Although this didn’t happen, we can rule out bad putting as the cause..

Living up to the hype, this putter greatly improved my aiming and in my opinion it did it all at a subconscious level.. What I mean is that I never intentionally lined up the putter according to the aiming lines or the putter-hole. It just ended up locked on to the cup without much effort on my part.

This putter has a very soft touch and the ball bounces off the putter face and results in greater roll and distance for less effort. I didn’t spend any time on the practice green with the TaylorMade putter so I kept flying them past the hole, which while frustrating, can’t be blamed on the putter.

I’ll be posting up a more comprehensive review in a few days, once I’ve had time to fully explore this spooky short stick.
