How to Hit the Golf Ball When it is Positioned Above Your Feet

How to Hit the Golf Ball When it is Positioned Above Your Feet

You get to your ball and you see that it lies above your feet at address. You smile to yourself and think of the fantastic shot you are about to play. Why, because this is considered to be one of the easiest shots in golf. If you follow the steps below, you will not hit the ground behind the ball anymore, and this shot will become your favourite shot in golf. So here we go.

Step 1: With this kind of shot the ball will always tend to draw so make sure that you compensate for this by aiming a little to the right.

Step 2: If you are one of those golfers that always seems to hit the ball a bit fat when it is above your feet, there is a very simple fix. Make sure that you are standing taller and straighter than your normal stance.

Step 4: This is one of the most important things to remember for this shot. Do not bend your knees. You should stand as straight as you possibly can.

Step 5: The other most important thing to remember is that the club will always want to swing flatter and around your body, which is exactly the type of swing you want for this shot. Do not try to make a normal swing as you will not get a good result.

That is all there is to it. If you can remember to follow these steps then this should become one of your favourite shots in golf. I hope this helped.

How To Improve Your Golf Swings And Lower Your Handicap

How To Improve Your Golf Swings And Lower Your Handicap

See yourself break 80 by improving your golf swings.

Just between you and me. In order to be able to break 80 or do better than your current score, you will want to know how to improve your golf swings and in the process you will lower your handicap.

Do you hit the ball farther? This is not always the solution. More problems may develop to increase your score. The ability to hit the ball with consistent accuracy is the answer to lowering your handicap. Easily said, but is achievable with practice.

Reduce or eliminate slicing, hooking, and topping the ball.

A tendency to slice the ball and doing it constantly needs immediate correction before it becomes ingrained as unwanted habits. If a professional golfer is available where you golf, request to have that person observe you and offer remedies to correct your golf swing and body positioning flaws.

Hitting the golf ball and have it travel straighter is the goal unless you want the golf ball to curve sharply to the right or to the left. There are occasions when you want to hit the golf ball directing it to either side of straight, but it takes a lot of control to do this shot intentionally.

Remember what it was like in the beginning? We all topped the golf ball because we released our flexed knees lifting the body upward causing the bottom of the golf club to thinly hit the top of the golf ball and the ball slowly rolled. We learned how to correct this flaw and proceeded successfully to the next lesson.

Correcting your golf swings is also a matter of refining and perfecting your grip, the address, the takeaway, the top of the backswing, the downswing, and the impact to finish. Practice these basics until they are familiar and comfortable to you.

Set up a constructive drill program for yourself. Attend the practice range prepared to practice with purpose. Here is a suggestion list to include in your practice sessions.

Check your posture or body alignment.
Timing needs to be rehearsed.
Develop rhythm
Smoother swing from beginning to golf ball contact.
Improve consistency and distance.
Hit the ball directly towards the intended target.

Stop reading and think about the above list. Choose one item and one or two irons and design a feasible practical drill. After you have practiced and can grade yourself an “A”, select another item on the list and add another iron or two and design another achievable drill. Develop a good practice plan and stick to it.

Do not set up impossible goals to practice in one session. Practice with accuracy. Constructive practice is essential as the golf swing habits you develop are realities on the golf course.

Investment of your active participation of time in practice will be necessary to develop the perfect golf swings you desire. Invest in yourself by engaging a professional golfer for lessons. Play golf as often as possible to gain experience.

The result of a perfect golf swing is when you hit the club head in the exact correct spot on impact with the exact amount of speed and send the ball flying straight to the designated target. Perform this golf swing many times and you are on your way to being an outstanding golfer.

How to Improve your Golf Swing Address

How to Improve your Golf Swing Address

Article by Tricia Deed

How to improve your golf swing address is very important. You will be amazed how your golf swings will improve by correcting your posture or spinal alignment, your stance or address, and the strengthening of your muscles and supporting tissues around the joints of the bones.

I will get straight to the point. Place your legs into position as you would do in readiness to strike the golf ball. Bend your knees. Lean onto the right foot while removing the weight from yor left foot. If you find yourself unsteady shift your foot slightly until you find your balance point. Once you have found it stay there until you feel stable. Leave your right foot where it is; then lean to the left foot, remove the weight off the right foot and repeat. You will now recognize and discover your balance stance.

Pick up your golf club positioning your legs according to your newly discovered balanced stance. As you position the golf club in your hands pretending to swing, it will feel differently. The reason is you have not been in your correct address and not able to hit the ball correctly and drive it the desired distance.

You probably already know that if you have been out of alignment you will need to retrain, but the rewards will outweigh the effort. It is better to strike the golf ball correctly, than to keep adjusting or compensating your golf swing to make it happen poorly.

When your spine is out of alignment and you are holding the golf club forward the body tends to lean backwards to maintain balance in order to compensate for the golf club being held too far forward. If the golf club is being held too closely then your body tends to lean forward with some spinal arching. In both instances golf swing difficulties will arise while trying to hit the golf ball.

While practicing my balance maneuver without the golf club, it was surprising how out of balance I became, but once I had my feet in their correct position, then my balance improved. I pretended to swing my golf club and discovered that I needed to incorporate some twist exercises to afford more flexibility and stretch in my upper back and waistline.

I picked up my golf club to do my practice swing and it defintely felt different. So I am back to the drawing board to correct my golf swings. Correct posture or spinal alignment does make a tremendous difference in the mechanics of the golf swing.

You may have noticed that when you held yor golf club to check out your new stance there was an added pull across the shoulders; and when you followed through you may have also noticed that your twist was a bit tight from the waistline and up.

By maintaining correct spinal alignment and exercising upper back, arms, and wrists for stronger muscle control, you will discover a big improvement in the distance and the speed of the golf ball.

As you improve the muscle strength of the upper back, arms and wrists, also include exercises to stretch the joints. Consider the joints as being similar to rubber bands. These rubber bands need to lengthen and be able to keep up with the increased muscle strength.

Picture yourself a few weeks from now having developed improved adjustments of the golf swing mechanics. Tempo, speed, distance, swing plane, and golf swing sequences will be changing causing you to reanalyze your golf swings. But these improvements will make you a better than average golfer.

Golf Swing Instructions for Beginners – Learn How to Swing Like a Pro

Golf Swing Instructions for Beginners – Learn How to Swing Like a Pro

Article by Matthew Barrett

Perfecting your swing in golf is one of the hardest tasks to accomplish. When you stance and swing are not done correctly, it can greatly affect your game in a very negative way. Following golf swing instructions and tips like those found below can help you get on the right track towards looking like a pro on the golf course.

Line Up Your Shoulders

The first golf swing instruction you should follow is to line up your shoulders. When your shoulders are properly aligned, the course you take with your swing will be straight and you can avoid making costly mistakes. Your front shoulder should directly face the target at which you are aiming. The trailing shoulder on the other hand should be square to the area you are aiming at. Your feet should be lined up directly under your shoulders and your knees should be bent slightly.

Grip the Club

The next part of our golf swing instructions involves gripping your club. You should not choke up on or squeeze the club. Instead, you should have a light yet firm hold on the club, with your fingers and palms in the correct positions. Line up your V’s and ensure that your grip is in perfect alignment with the ball and shaft of the club.

Rotate Your Hips

Rotating your hips to the back is imperative so that your shoulders are able to rotate fully to the begin stance for your backswing. When your hips are rotated or rolled properly, your weight should naturally rest on your back foot and your arms are to come up to the same height as your shoulders when you take the club back. Your arm and the shaft of the club should create an “L” shape. Proper use of the hips is an important part of golf swing instructions for beginners.

Roll the Hips Forward

After you have drawn back, you should begin propelling your hips back to the front. This should naturally turn your shoulders and allow you to bring your hands down and drive straight through the ball. Snapping your wrist forward as you hit the ball will allow for a straight drive that travels far and accurately.

Finish Your Swing

One of the most important golf swing instructions that many golfers often forget is to finish the swing. Many will hit the ball and once there is contact they forget to follow through. Without proper follow through, your golf game will suffer and you leave yourself open for hooks, slices and other common mistakes.

Instead of stopping immediately after the strike to see how you have done, instead push all the way through the swing until your arms are at least shoulder height. This will keep your ball on target and give you the maximum return.

Proper golf swing instructions can help you realize your full potential as a golfer. A weak or ill executed swing can cause all kinds of problems that could have you giving up on golf before you truly begin. The information above is a general breakdown of the steps you must take in order to perform a successful swing and start improving your game.

How To Fix My Golf Slice For The Desperate Golfer

How To Fix My Golf Slice For The Desperate Golfer

Article by Victor Lorentzo

I’ve been there before and know how embarrassing it is to be the only slicer in a group of golfers. Everybody knows that your ball is going right, no matter how hard you try! The further left you aim the further right it goes. The harder you hit, it disappears in the rough to the right…ouch.

Click here to fix your slice problems

You’ve probably heard suggestions from others, but it gets old. You are looking for the right book or TV show on how to fix my golf slice, but so far nothing is working!? Maybe a few tips from this article will help alleviate some of your pain.

Desperate golfers please listen. There is help! Here are a few basics which will alleviate your slice or at least limit its severity. The first step is probably your stance. Try standing with your big toes about 16 inches apart and slightly pointed outward (move your left toe about an inch forward of your right).

Your heels should be about 6 to 8 inches from each other. Stand up straight and bend from the waste (an arched back is a big mistake), keeping your back straight. As you start to bend, bend your knees slightly and start to sit until you feel comfortable. Remember to keep your weight on the heels for balance. This stance is the one you will use!

Addressing the ball is your next step. This routine will help you get comfortable before swinging. Use an 8 iron and drop the ball about 2 or three inches right of center. (Note: the more left of center, the more slice). Grasp the iron with your right hand as though you were shaking hands with someone. Do the same with your left hand.

Shift your hands to the right on the club slightly. This is a stronger grip and promotes a draw! When you slowly bring your club back keep your right elbow against your body. Keeping your elbow next to your body throughout your swing promotes an in-to-out swing.

Always take a practice swing to relax. Remember to only hit the ball about 75 to 80 percent of your hardest swing. This will help your control! You should make your practice swing the same speed as the swing you’re going to make! When you start your downswing, start slow. Speed up only when you’re about to hit the ball. This will promote follow-thru and control.

If your balls are still slicing, make small adjustments stroking a little more to the RIGHT. That’s correct, RIGHT. For the desperate reader who wants to quit slicing, this should help! Practice these basics for a while and find the swing that works for you! Good golfing!

How To Improve Your Golf Swing-Neutralise Your Golf Grip

How To Improve Your Golf Swing-Neutralise Your Golf Grip

One way to improve your golf swing is to neutralise your golf grip.Firstly you will only hook the golf ball if you swing the club face closed at impact. The majority of golfers that hook the ball display a ‘strong grip’,where the hands are too far to the right of the handle.Golfers will swing the club too much from the inside of the line, with the hands, arms and body struggling to hold the clubface open at impact.Weakening the grip will help stop the club face closing on impact.
Secondly,a common fault with a lot of golfers is the stance. The width of stance will vary slightly
according to the golf club you are using. As a general guideline,i recommend that the stance for the 5-iron should correspond to the width of your shoulders.Check your stance regularly when you practise.A wide stance will give you good stability but less mobility.A narrow stance will give you more mobility but less stability.
Thirdly, getting your posture right will make playing the game easier. The reason for this is that your posture controls the balance points in your swing, and good balance is key in helping you develop your game.
Start by placing your thumbs on your hip joints, this is to where you bend from the hip joint.
From there lean forward putting your weight on the front of your feet. Finally flex your knees, feeling the pressure on your thighs.Hope this helps, happy golfing.

Longer Driver Distance – Five Tips on How to Hit a Draw For Duffers

Longer Driver Distance – Five Tips on How to Hit a Draw For Duffers

The draw shot is popular shot shape for those golfers who want more distance. All other things being equal a tee shot hit with a draw will travel about twenty yards farther than a fade. Distance is king in golf and that extra twenty yards might be the difference between a 5-iron approach and a 7-iron approach.

A draw is different from a hook. The hook moves hard to the left in a totally uncontrollable fashion. The two may be related but like your rude Uncle Harry, the hook is not a member of the family we’re proud of. The draw moves about ten yards right to left while the hook can move more than the width of the fairway.

Strategically the draw shot allows the right hander to eliminate the right side of each hole as the draw moves from right to left. So all the trouble the architect built into the course to challenge those with a slice is not in play for those with a draw.

At my home course here in Charlotte, NC nine of the fourteen driving holes (excludes par 3s) a draw is the best shot shape. I have learned over the past year or so how to hit a draw with the driver and that has meant a lot to my improved scoring.

Let’s discuss five important elements to hitting the draw shot so you can improve your scoring too.

How to hit a draw

Adjust your alignment – Align your stance along the line where you want the ball to begin. This will be closed compared to where you want the ball to finish. All of your body should be aligned together on this same line: feet, knees, hips and shoulders.

Aim the clubface – Aim the clubface to where you want the shot to finish. The clubface will be closed to the initial line of flight.

Swing path – Swing along your body as you would normally.

Grip – Don’t bother with strengthening your grip as some suggest. The only adjustments required are those mentioned above.

Ball position – Ball position will help determine the ball flight along with angle of attack. Move it a bit forward for a higher shot or toward the back for a lower shot. A word of caution though: it is much easier to hit a low draw than a high one.

Remember that the draw adds distance. You’ll need to consider that fact when making your club selection on iron shots. It will fly a bit farther but roll a lot more than a normal shot.

I would suggest that you groove this shot on the range prior to taking it to the golf course. These tips on how to hit a draw will help you play better golf and improve your golf handicap.

Can’t share all there is to shot making in this one short article of course. You’ll find more free tips to help you improve your golf swing here: How to Hit a Draw

How to Stop Slicing the Ball

How to Stop Slicing the Ball

For recreational golfers, no part of the golf game is more frustrating than getting great contact on a drive…only to see it slice 50 yards into the woods. To compensate, many golfers make “on-the-fly” adjustments that usually make the problem worse! In this article, I’ll give you FIVE FAQ’s on key swing fundamentals that will help you to stop slicing a golf ball. (These FAQ’s are for right-handers..for left-handers, reverse the directions)

FAQ 1:

The Setup — When a basketball defender is guarding his man, he tries to be perfectly balanced so that he can quickly react to the direction that his opponent is going. If he is leaning right, the offensive player could easily exploit that. In a similar way, you must be properly balanced as you setup to the ball. Bend your knees, get set and avoid leaning to the right or to the left. If you aren’t set properly, your swing is doomed before it begins! If you are perfectly balanced, you’ll be less likely to slice the ball.

FAQ 2:

The Shoulders — When you swing a club, your right shoulder should be LOWER than your left shoulder at the moment of impact! This is a common mistake of many golfers who have problems with slices. When you examine your swing at the moment of impact, if you find that you are one of the many golfers who keeps your left shoulder lower than your right, than you have found the probable cause of your slice!

FAQ 3:

Proper Grip — A quick test to make sure you have the proper grip is to insert two golf tees between your thumb and the webbing of your hand while gripping the club. If the tees point toward the target, than your weak grip is a typical slicer’s mistake. Make sure both tees are pointing straight in front of you.

FAQ 4:

Flat Left Wrist — At the top of your swing, make sure your wrist is flat. A loose wrist or a wrist that is at an angle will cause you to slice the ball. Many who slice the ball find that they have a tendency to cup their wrist at the top of their swing. Keeping that wrist flat and straight will help keep the slice out of your game.

FAQ 5:

Proper Hand Rotation — After you have hit the ball, where are your hands? Your right hand, or ungloved hand, should rotate over and be on top of your left hand after you have struck the ball. If you’re not rotating your hands in this manner, you will find it very difficult to keep your ball straight!

If you are able to implement these five FAQ’s, you should soon stop slicing the ball, see your drives heading down the fairway, and you’ll definitely see your scores start improving dramatically..
