How to Buy a Golf Bag

How to Buy a Golf Bag

Article by Robb Thomas

Whether you have three clubs or fourteen, you’re going to need a golf bag. And while the quality of your bag shouldn’t directly affect your game, how comfortable it is and how well it fits can significantly impact your morale as you play through the golf course.

Few things can make a game turn sour faster than a strap digging into your shoulder for 18 holes and having to carry your extra golf balls in a plastic bag. So, keep reading to learn about the three basic types of bags as well as some helpful tips on how to choose the best golf bag for your needs.

Golf Bag Varieties:

1. Carry Bags

A carry bag is small, lightweight and typically made from plastic, canvas or nylon. It can usually accommodate a basic set of essential golf clubs and a few accessories like balls, towels and tees and often comes with its own stand to hold it upright while you make your shot.

Because the carry bag is portable and easy to carry, it’s the bag of choice for golfers who like to walk and carry their own bag. Essentially, the carry bag is the equivalent of packing light.

2. Cart Bags

The cart bag is a mid-sized bag and designed to fit either on a wheeled, hand-pushed golf cart or on the back of a motorized golf cart.

It can be fairly bulky and is often difficult to carry, but it offers more space than the lightweight carry bag.

3. Staff Bags

The staff bag is the largest style of golf bag. It is made to fit a full set of fourteen golf clubs along with all the accessories you need.

A staff bag is doable with a caddie or a motorized golf cart, but it can be somewhat unruly for the solo golfer, becoming more of a burden than a blessing.

How to Choose the Right Golf Bag

Choosing the right golf bag for you comes down to use and price; but first and foremost it’s about how you plan to use it. Often the smaller bags are less expensive, but if you plan to walk yourself around the course, they’re the better choice, and there are beautiful, high-quality carry bags available.

The price or quality of your bag isn’t going to affect your game, but you should pick a bag that fits well and can carry everything you need to have a comfortable game, like an umbrella or an extra jacket. Before you purchase it, walk around the store with your bag and make sure that you like the fit and the way the strap feels on your shoulder.

You will learn that the road to a low handicap is earned through countless bad shots, bunkers, water hazards and triple digit scores. You will invest a lot of time in practice. Welcome every hook, slice and 3 putt as a learning opportunity. Even the most horrendous mistake is a learning opportunity.

Golfing provides a rich opportunity to meet new people and provides you with opportunities for social interaction. You will get to meet new people in a setting in which you both have an avid interest, which makes for easy conversations. Golfing is also an excellent opportunity to meet like minded single people if you are looking for new people to meet.

How much golf equipment do you actually need? Golf is a very expensive game but there are affordable options. A high-end brand name set of clubs can set you back several thousand dollars but there are quality and affordable alternatives. Before buying discount golf clubs you should visit several golf stores and club pro shops. Test different types of clubs, determine which club length is best for you, get to know the different types of grips available and learn the difference between graphite and steel shafts. Take time to learn about the different types of golf balls, gloves, shoes and tees.

When you are choosing a golf bag you will first need to decide if you are going to walk the coarse or ride a cart. Golf bags are available in a range of materials make sure to choose one that is suited to your climate. Golf shoes are important; make sure they are comfortable and waterproof.

Where is the center of the golf swing? It is somewhere between the bottom of your spine and your navel. It is not your head, although the fallacy about controlling head movement persists. Don’t think about your head. It serves only two purposes during the swing:

The swing’s stabilizing force is in the abdomen. This, not your head, is the axis around which to rotate.

Ideal rotation should allow for the back to be facing the target, or the chest facing straight back away from the target. It is not important that the club get to parallel. If the chest, you have more than enough power stored for the downswing.

Before you lift golf clubs, you need the right attitude, and remember to remain positive, quiet your mind and remember it’s only a game. And games are supposed to be fun, so make golf fun and you can play for the rest of your life.

Over the winter is an excellent time to make lasting changes in your swing movement. Why? Because it takes slow deliberate repetitions to teach your body to change motions or patterns which you probably would not be willing to do during the season because you want to play.

Most of the tips I will give you in this report will be similar in nature. No golf ball needed. Just your golf club and a position far enough away from any lamps! Of course I will practice close to my wife’s cat in case I get lucky and cut a divot down his back. Rrrraoow!

Most golf professionals have a TaylorMade R9 460 driver along side they’re sofa. After all, we do have to make any television viewing productive. When a silly commercial message comes on you hold the golf club in your hands right up in front of your face so you so you can see your grip. Grip the golf club slowly.

The Essentials to Know when Buying Golf Clubs

The Essentials to Know when Buying Golf Clubs

If you are fairly new to the game, or just new to actually going out and purchasing a club on your own, read through our quick golf club buying guide. It is sure to set you straight on what you need to know about buying the perfect golf club for your needs.

What kind of golf clubs do you have to choose from?
First, let’s take a look at the types of golf clubs that make up a set. Typically, a golfer carries fourteen or fewer clubs in his or her bag. The four basic types of these golf clubs are Woods, Irons, Wedges, and Putters.

Another popular type of golf club nowadays is the Hybrid club. The Hybrid club is a cross between the Iron and the Wood, and is made for people who have difficulty using these other types of clubs. But before you get confused, let’s break these categories down a bit and take a closer look at them.

Woods:
Woods are usually used to hit long golf shots. Standard woods that are carried in a golf bag are 1, 3, and 5 Woods. Your 1 Wood is typically your driver. As the number of your wood increases (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) you lose the amount of distance it can go, but you gain a higher trajectory. Recent golf club technology has made higher lofted woods for shorter distances.

Irons:
Iron clubs are mostly used for shots that are expected to go an average distance – typically from 125 to 200 yards. The lower the number of iron, the less degree on the face of the iron – resulting in the longer amount of distance the ball can go. On the other hand, the higher the number of iron, the higher the degree on the face of the iron – resulting in the higher the loft a ball has.

The most popular irons used are 3 Irons though 9 Irons, however, many companies also manufacture 1 Irons as well as 10 Irons.

Wedges:
Wedges are used for semi-short golfshots. They are also used for chipping, and sand shots. There are several types of Wedges, including sand wedges, pitching wedges, and lob wedges.

Putters:
If you have ever watched a golfer up on the green, trying to hit a short shot into the hole, then he or she was most likely using a putter. A putter is a golf club that has a low loft. This enables the ball to roll father. A putter is typically shorter than all of your other golf clubs.

Should you buy new or used clubs?
Now that you understand a little bit more about your golf clubs, you must decide whether you want to purchase a new or used set. If you are fairly inexperienced, you may lean towards buying used clubs, instead of spending a great deal of money on a new purchase. However, when buying used clubs you should be wary about defects such as cracked shafts or worn grips. After all, these things will certainly not help you learn the game the right way. And, they may accumulate into worse money problems in the end.

Our advice to anyone starting off new to the game of golf, is to invest in a new set that works right with your height and build. It doesn’t have to be the most expensive set – but simply something that you can learn well on.

Should you purchase a complete set or put one together on your own?
One thing you should realize when putting together a golf set by yourself is that it will be a more expensive route to take then simply buying a set that is already put together. Putting together your own set can be quite confusing if you are merely a beginner. Our advice for starters is to get a complete starter set and go from there.

If you have leftover money, you may be better off to spend it on some golf lessons. Leave the picking and choosing to more advanced players who know exactly what they want.

In closing, have fun with your new golf clubs. Use them to learn how to excel in this challenging and entertaining game!

Shopping Guide For Golf Beginners

Shopping Guide For Golf Beginners

Article by Steven Lancey

In the modern world, shopping online is the best way to go and golf equipment is no different. Online golf stores are your best bet to finding golf products and options.

Here is some advice on golf equipment purchase and what would be required to get started. Beside golf clubs, there are additional items necessary to prepare yourself for the game. The next most clear-cut items are golf bags and golf balls. If you are purchasing a starter set of clubs many come with a golf bag included. If you like to walk and enjoy a little workout as you play there are carry bags, which are light weight and easy to carry over your shoulders.

Today, one of the best ways to shop is online. Shopping for golf equipment is no different. Online golf stores give you the greatest variety of golfing products and options. Furthermore, online shopping can give you the best pricing to ease the high overhead cost of equipment, if you are just starting to play the game.

If you are just beginning I would recommend that you buy the more economically priced balls. The difference in performance will be minor. You will probably have a tendency to lose more balls as a beginner so why waste money? As start getting the swing of the game, you can always upgrade the type of ball that you use – I would recommend purchasing a couple dozen balls to get started. There are also different compression golf balls made. 80, 90 and 100. The compression selected is directly proportionate to how fast you swing and your golf mechanics. I will not go overboard on this right now but an 80 or 90 compression ball should be more than adequate for now. If you have some power and a fairly quick swing, I would opt for the 90 which may give you a bit more distance. NOTE: The professionals and low handicap players use the higher compression balls because their impact speed and swing mechanics will allow the ball to compress properly, thus attaining the maximum result in distance. Some other equipment I would strongly recommend would be as follows:

A golf towel, golf shoes ( though not absolutely necessary it will assist with stability as you swing), Golf tees ( Note: there are different height golf tees made for different drivers, woods and irons – I would recommend that you pick up an assortment of sizes – 2 1/8″ for woods and irons & 2 3/4″ or 3 1/4″ for Drivers depending on type and size. Check with golf pro or sales person for recommendations if not sure), a golf glove ( not required but it will give you a definite advantage in gripping and holding the club more effectively), ball markers ( used on the green to mark your ball so you will not to block the path of your fellow player – a rule of golf etiquette), and a divot repair tool ( used to repair the indentation made in the green when the golf ball lands – one of the rules of etiquette to be addressed in a future writing ). Although not required to play golf, you may want to consider packing the following ancillary items : Band-aids, sunscreen and insect repellent. You never know when you may need them and it’s better to be prepared to allow for maximum comfort while you play. I think we’ve covered most of the essentials and if you have any questions please feel free to submit them to me. Now you’ve got the Desire, you’ve got your equipment, next step is to learn how to play- “The Correct Way”.

There are numerous options available to learn how to play golf. First, you can self teach ( read books and watch instructional DVDs), ask a friend or relative who knows how to play to teach you. If you are in a high school or a college that offers a golf program, GOFOR IT! You can take lessons from a golf pro at your local driving range or golf course. The method you select can greatly effect your results so be sure to make the decision that’s right for you.

Learning How to Use Golf Long Irons

Learning How to Use Golf Long Irons

Article by Jeremy Winters

Your golf long irons are usually identified as the one, two, three, and four irons. The vast majority of players generally will simply carry a three and four iron inside their golf bag. Quite seasoned golfers sometimes also employ a one or two iron, but this isn’t the norm.

A majority of the present leading players have a superb game with regards to utilizing these longer golf clubs. This originates from being very familiar with them, which only occurs as a result of consistent practice. If the golfer is only concerned with the short game and putting, they will likely not possess the practical experience and self confidence needed to learn the use of these clubs.

To be able to genuinely succeed with long irons there are actually a couple of techniques that should be mastered. The very first is addressing the ball. This doesn’t suggest saying “hello” and “how are you?” Addressing the ball relates to the stance that you take when getting prepared to strike it. Using a longer club, your stance should be wider than it would if you were working with a shorter club.

As it relates to the flight path your ball will take, your posture must be a little bit closed. Your shoulders, hips and your feet need to be squared towards the ball, meaning that they will need to be in the direction of the hole on an imaginary parallel line. As soon as you have implemented this stance then you move your right foot back roughly an inch or so. This enables you to line up properly just to the right of your planned target. Place your weight evenly on both feet for better balance. Keep your arms in near to your body with your hands just slightly ahead of your ball.

The next step to be mindful of when using golf long irons is the backswing. For a powerful backswing, move the head of the club backwards around ten to twelve inches along the ground using the shoulders and body just to slightly turn when you move into your swing. As your swing passes the outside of your right leg, your arms and hands need to be cocking slightly towards the sky. By the time you reach the top of the backswing, your right side should be holding most of your weight. At the top of your backswing, your turn should be complete and your wrists should be fully cocked. If you allow your left heel to lift just slightly from the ground, it makes it possible for your hips to be free from strain when you turn away from your ball.

The third step is the downswing. As you begin your downswing, you need to anchor your left heel securely against the ground. If you endeavor to make this a constant component of your downswing, it is going to become second nature. By simply doing so, you’re sure to be on the inside plane of the downswing. Your swing will be from the inside out if your weight is too far forward on your toes. When you are halfway through your swing, the wrists need to be completely cocked and your right elbow just a bit tucked in against your right hand side. Your body weight should be shifting in the direction of your left hand side as your right hand side begins to drive into your actual shot. The crucial element to utilizing these clubs is to remember to sustain a smooth swing. Do not rush into your swing by moving way too quickly. That is where much more inexperienced golfers lose their focus. Sustain your pace as you keep your swing smooth.

Golf long irons can be an important part of an effective game if you keep these basic tips in mind. The best golf clubs that money can buy are only as good as the player behind them. Know your clubs and exactly how to work with them properly for a quality game.

Something You Should Know When buying Golf Clubs

Something You Should Know When buying Golf Clubs

For most golfers buying a new set of clubs is as important as buying a car. It’s important to get it right because you can spend a lot of money and you’ll be using them for many years to come. If you haven’t realised it already golf equipment gets very technical. For the very best players a misplaced ‘C.O.G’ or ‘M.O.I’ can severely affect their game. For the rest of us a few simple decisions will help you select the right golf clubs for you and avoid wasting your hard earned cash. Lets take a look at what you need to know.

How much you spend is obviously up to you. Golf equipment can cost a small fortune especially if you opt for custom made stuff. If you’re a beginner its probably a better idea to look for a less expensive range or even buy second hand (check for signs of rusting and degradation if you do). This game is a tough nut to crack and not everyone develops an addiction to it. You don’t want a thousand dollars worth of golf clubs gathering dust in the closet! When you get to a decent level or are already there it then becomes more cost effective to go for the higher end products.

The majority of your golf bag will be taken up by the irons – generally 3 through to 9. The quality of the shaft is key for these clubs and industry standard is for the irons to be made out of steel. Take note – if your swing speed is slow or your swing speed is decreasing due to age consider buying graphite shaft irons. They are lighter and can help you get back some distance.

The flex of the shaft is another key component. Again slower swing speeds require a more flexible shaft. The extra whip generated helps add yards to your shots. This is not helpful to the golfer who is hitting their 7 iron 150 yards or more as flexible shafts tend to be harder to control at that level. These types of golfer should look at the stiffer range.

A feature of the 21st century golf bag is the hybrid clubs. A mix between the fairway wood and standard iron this club is known to be easier to hit than long irons and can be used in many situations. Generally considered a must for high handicappers and beginners you will also find that the pros have adopted them also. Its certainly worth considering having these in your bag rather than the long irons. If, like me, you tend to spend a little too much time in the rough then these golf clubs can be your saviour.

When you are making your selection be mindful that golf clubs are generally made to a standard length. When you set up, the club head should sit flat on the ground and the club should fall below your waist. The standard length is acceptable for most golfers but if you’re particularly small or tall it might be a better idea to go for a custom made set. This will give you a better chance of solid contact.

The club head comes in all shapes and sizes. You hear much about the debate between cavity backed or blades. The cavity backed club head has a larger sweet spot so is easier to hit but at the cost of feel and control. This is why better players tend to prefer the blades.

The driver and fairway woods usually have graphite shafts to assist in generating club head speed. As with irons the amount of flex you need depends on how much speed you tend to generate.

Loft of the driver head is often overlooked. Slow swingers want a higher loft as it helps get higher trajectory off the tee and ultimately more carry down the fairway. Loft tends to range between 10 and 15 degrees. Better players should opt for the lower end of that range.

Fortunately for some of us you can select the angle of the face of the driver to offset any tendencies such as slicing or hooking. If you slice go for a closed face and if you hook go for an open face. The difference can be between hitting the rough regularly or getting down that fairway.

The putter is all about feel. You need to be able to produce a smooth stroke to get the right contact on the golf ball. As a result there are a great many variations in the type of putter you can buy. See which one sits right with you. The heavier putters can help beginners because they promote a less jerky technique and reduce the chance of the golfer giving up on the putt as they hit it.

The grip has to feel comfortable. You can have golf clubs regripped and this may come in useful if you have small or large hands.

Everyone has their own tastes so not all the tips will apply but its certainly worth bearing these pointers in mind. Buying clubs can be a sizeable investment and the last thing you want is to find you’ve chosen a set that you simply cannot get on with. One final tip is to make sure you are honest about your game with the store attendants when selecting clubs. Yes, they are trying to sell to you but they will want you to get the right clubs. Its no use saying you hit the ball dead straight and play off a 4 handicap when you really have a horrendous slice and struggle to break 100. The needs of these two types of player are very different! Best golf clubs in ordergolfonline

Package Golf Sets versus Buying Golf Clubs Separately?

Package Golf Sets versus Buying Golf Clubs Separately?

Article by Neil Peters

Should you buy a package golf set or should you buy golf clubs separately? That is the question most beginners are faced with when starting out in the game. There is no correct answer of course but there are a few important things that when considered may help you to make the correct choice for you.

The main things to think about are:

Budget: how much money you want to spendCommitment: how serious are you about golfFuture: am I likely to upgrade in future

What is your budget?

So, let’s talk about budget first of all as that’s perhaps the most important consideration for any beginner. As a beginner you’re unlikely to know just how serious you are about the game yet so you won’t want to break the bank. However, you don’t want to waste money on a golf set that you’re likely to want to replace quickly either. Luckily, you can buy package golf sets that have high quality clubs and are modestly priced. There’s no need to spend more than £200 to get a good starter set with all the clubs you’ll need and included will be a good golf bag.

How keen are you?

When you consider that you could easily spend £1000 to buy all the clubs separately then this really is a key factor for most people. Is the much greater invested in separate clubs worthwhile? Well, the answer really relates to our second consideration: how serious are you about golf? If you already know that you’re mad keen on the game then I’d have no hesitation in recommending that you look at buying clubs separately and perhaps even consider having your clubs custom fitted.

Still unsure?

Finally, related to the previous two considerations ask yourself this: am I likely to want to upgrade in future? This is big unknown for most at the outset. I’d say if you are at all unsure then go for a good quality package golf set from a good brand like Callaway, RAM or Wilson Staff. You’ll get a really good set for less than £200 that is ideal for a beginner- or intermediate-level golfer for that matter.
