PING has added the K15 to the range to offer a product with even more forgiveness than the G15 range. In the Ping K15 Driver they have pushed 10% of the mass of the head into the heel to help straighten wayward flights. The large surface area of the face has been designed to maximize forgiveness.

 

The K15 driver features patent pending Straigt Flight Technology that uses an extreme external weight pad to move 10% of the clubhead mass towards the heel. By repositioning the centre of gravity this provides a natural rotation through impact. The design of the Ping K15 Driver means that the external sole weight pad is largely concealed.

The K15 has a larger 460cc head design that moves weight away from the clubface to push the centre of gravity backwards and provide a higher trajectory. By increasing the length from heel to toe Ping have also been able to create a larger surface to provide high levels of forgiveness and higher ball velocity.

 

Ping’s own Ultra Thin Crown Technology has been utilized to redistribute 8 grams to the external weight pad and further enhance the position of the centre of gravity and moment of inertia.

 

The Ping K15 Driver features the TFC 149D graphite shaft that uses high balance point technology that allows the head mass to increase without affecting swing weight or the overall club weight to allow clubhead speed to remain consistent. I’ve layed a friend’s Tour Burner Driver with 10.5 degrees loft, Aldila NV 65R SST Pured shaft.. I wasn’t sure if the pured shaft made the difference, but i was hitting some good drives with it. first off the tee was a low hook. probably due to the slightly closed face angle, but on the next 4-5 holes, i was hitting pretty straight drives in the fairway. the feel of the NV is very smooth. The first thing you’ll notice about the Tour Burner is the large size of the sole of the club which is larger than the crown. This is part of the new Dual Crown technology, which is crucial to the driver’s performance. A clearly delineated groove encircles the extra large clubhead, separating the crown and the sole, giving the club a unique look. An advantage of having a smaller crown is the reduction in weight, making the Tour Burner 18% lighter than the crown of Taylor Made’s Burner Driver.The TaylorMade Golf Tour Burner Driver has a dual crown made of steel, and the weighted power-base promotes increased distance. The lower and precision-placed center of gravity offers a higher launch angle and lower spin, while the SuperFast Technology gives increased swing speed. The exceptionally high MOI of the Taylormade Tour Burner driver head makes it extremely stable and forgiving on off-center hits. During my tests at both the driving range and on the golf course my off-center hits still went straight and long, thanks to the high MOI. That benefit, combined with the advantage provided by TaylorMade’s patented Inverted Cone Technology (ICT), result in even higher ball speed on off-center hits. Inverted Cone Technology is characterized by a shallow cone milled directly onto the inner side of the clubface and changes the way the face behaves at impact so that a larger area of the face delivers higher ball speed. The G15 driver is very similar to the previous G10 driver. It features a mid to high launch tendency due to the weight distribution in the head. Word from the course has it that loft/shaft combinations need to be watched carefully because of the higher flight tendancies. The 460 head still provides a good measure of forgiveness, and with the correct shaft match for swing dynamics, distance is excellent. Toe and heel mishits gear back well, sound is pleasing, not harsh like some Clevelands and Cobras, but solid sounding. Compares very well with Titleist 909 D2 series, Callaway FT-9, and Taylor Made R9 460. The only negative is it does produce higher spin rates which have a negative impact on overall distance. That’s where shafting helps out. Pricing is not over the top, and the G15 is a good driver for any player.”
