How to Hit Your Golf Tee Shots Long and Straight

How to Hit Your Golf Tee Shots Long and Straight

The golf tee shot is your first shot on each hole out on the golf course. Typically, on par 4s and par 5s, you’ll hit your driver for your tee shot. Many golfers want to be able to hit the ball farther off the tee. Added distance with your driver will allow you to hit shorter irons into greens and generally help you score better.

One helpful tip for driving the golf ball farther off the tee is to setup up with your spine angle tilted slightly to the right. (Taylormade Burner Plus Driver) With the driver, you want to hit the ball sligtly on the upswing. Setting up with your spine tilted back will help you launch the golf ball high and give you more distance off the tee.

Setting up with your weight a touch more on your back foot can also be helpful with your driver. Play the ball all the way off of your left or front heel for best results. If you play the ball too far back in your stance with your driver, you’ll end up de-lofting the club even more and may have trouble getting it up into the air.

The pros on tour average 61% driving accuracy with hitting the fairways. The key with your tee shots is to hit it relatively close to the fairway so you are still in play and can manage a decent approach shot to the green.

Some people struggle with their driver off the tee and are even afraid to hit it. The reason the driver tends to be a harder club to hit is because it is longer and there is the least amount of loft with this clubhead. (Odyssey White Hot XG Putter 2009) The more loft the golf club has, the higher it will go but it the golf ball won’t go as far.

You need a proper stance and ball position to learn how to drive a golf ball straight. According to Tiger Woods, there are two reasons golfers do not know how hit the driver straight off of the tee box. He says golfers either place the ball too far back in their stance and/or too far away from their body. Bottom line, you need to have a proper golf stance to learn how to hit a tee shot straight and drive the ball like Tiger.

Let’s discuss how to get the ball the proper distance away from your body. This is essential to learning how to hit a golf ball straight off the tee box.

1. Your grip should hang beneath and slightly forward of your shoulders at address.

2. Any further forward and you are likely to have a pronounced inside to inside swing that will lead to strong draws or hooks.

3. Any closer to your body and you will tend to have a pronounced outside to outside swing that will lead to strong fades or slices.

many golfers have trouble figuring out how to aim a golf shot. You should aim a drawn line on golf ball down the target line. This ball then help your body align from top to bottom starting with your golf foot position on up to your golf shoulder alignment. It also helps you with your golf club head position at address.

Then, during the setup you can place the golf club so that the aiming mark on the driver, wood or hybrid lines up with the drawn line on the ball. (Mizuno JPX Fairway Wood) Then you can know that my club is aiming down the target line.

This is essential to learning how to drive a golf ball straight. Really, it is an unfair advantage for any situation where you can place the golf ball before you hit it.

However, master your driver and you’ll take tons of pressure off the rest of your golf game. It’s a whole lot easier playing from the fairways than it is playing from in the trees. When you’re hitting from the fairways, you’ll tend to hit more greens than you would from out of the rough or not in the fairway. Get some basic driver fundamentals worked into your golf swing and start playing better golf today.

Grooving Your Swing

Grooving Your Swing

Article by Jack Moorehouse

The key to hitting longer, straighter drives is squaring your clubface at impact. Anything less this results in either a weak drive or a slice or pull. To ensure you attain the correct impact position, your swing must be mechanically flawless or you must make pre-impact adjustments on the fly.

But making adjustments is not conducive to generating low scores or a low golf handicap. In fact, on-the-fly adjustments tend to do just the opposite, since they create a lot of opportunity for error. The goal then is to hone your swing so it is as technically perfect as you can make—not an easy task. Below are some drills that will help you grove your swing.

Triangle Takeaway DrillThe takeaway may be the most important move in the swing. It encourages good positions throughout the swing, increases your chances of executing a perfect swing, and delivers the clubhead squarely to the ball at impact—the key to hitting longer, straighter drives. This drill teaches you to stay connected during your swing, grove a one-piece takeaway, and employ a fuller body turn, creating added power:

Grip your driver a few inches below the club’s handle. Place the club’s butt end gently against your stomach at a point just above your navel. Now practice making small swings. Concentrate on keeping your arms close to your body with the club touching your navel. A lot of golf teachers use this drill in their golf lessons to help beginners groove the proper takeaway.

Thumbs-Up DrillThe next important phase of the swing after the takeaway is the backswing and the coking of the wrists. A mistake at this point in your swing causes a dramatically negative domino effect, with the club ending up well behind the body on the backswing. That in turn eliminates the chance of achieving square clubface-to-ball contact at impact.

Take your address position without a club. Swing back to chest level as if you had a club in your hands, making certain that your thumbs are angled up toward the sky. Hold that position for a few seconds, so you remember it and physically feel and grove it. Next, swing through to chest level, again making sure that your thumbs point at the sky. Practice this drill several times a day.

In-The-Slot-DrillPlayers who fail to find the right slot in their downswing fail to have a square clubface at impact. Unfortunately, some players release their right wrist (left wrist for left-handers) and/or right elbow (left for left-handers) much too early in the downswing, causing a weak misdirected slice. This drill teaches you to maintain the proper wrist and elbow hinge until you reach the impact zone.

Take your address position and then swing the club to the top. Hold that position briefly. Now start unwinding your hips on the downswing. Simultaneously, drop your elbow down in front of your back hip then freeze this position. Feel the position of your arms but do not uncock the wrists. This move trains your wrist to remain cocked and teaches you to feel the sensation of delaying the hit, without feeling the need to pull on the butt end of the club.

Stop-And-Go DrillOne of the biggest mistakes weekend golfers make is triggering their downswing with either a violent body move or an exaggerated lower body slide. As a result, the player tends to come into the impact area with the clubface wide open and slice the ball severely. This drill teaches you to make a smooth transition and synchronize the downswing move with the rest of your body.

Take your address position and then swing the club back, stopping at the top of your stroke. Be sure at this stage to check that your weight is balanced. Hold that position for a few seconds. Next, complete the swing and trigger a perfect chain reaction by rotating your hips and legs smoothly toward the target. Many teachers use this drill during golf instruction sessions to teach an efficient, on plane move and for promoting good balance during the swing.

The Twenty DrillSome golfers lose power on the downswing because they fail to accelerate their arms during this phase of the swing. As a result, the player hits balls much shorter than they should. The goal with this drill is to teach the player to swing the clubhead powerfully, so that by the time the club makes it to impact it is moving at high speed, enabling you to hit the ball longer with better height and carry.

Use your driver for this drill. Take your address position. Now swing the club back and through to the finish twenty times in a row without stopping. Ideally, you want to remain flat-footed through the impact zone. Some players are able to swing the club all the way through into the finish while remaining flat-footed. Swing as fast as possible. Do 20 swings in the morning and then 20 swings at night.

None of these drills require you to go to the practice range or the course. You can do them in your backyard or in your house or office. Work on the drills as often as you can. They’ll help you achieve lower scores and whittle down that golf handicap.

The large clubhead and deeper box structure makes the broad sweet area of the shaft, forged by soft iron, possible. The balance weight design, by adopting tungsten steel alloy in the middle of its bottom, realizes the much lower center of gravity and higher MOI(moment of inertia). Restrain the sway by hitting, bring forceful flight and extend the flight distance

From Golfers:First of all, let me say this club is very well made. I know this is kind of personal, but the clubhead shape and size is perfect for me… not bulky bullet shaped aerodynamics, nor weird dented crown (like cobra’s or cleveland hi-bore’s). Just very classic. I bought this club at a very fair price (120 US$ used), and the clubhead was in mint condition. At first I was having problems with the grip (golf pride m-21) that felt way too thick for me. I’ve read on forums that many people think the same about this grip (maybe it is designed for thinner butt shafts).

Morover I have small hands, so a tendency to fade the ball increased to a slice that was driving me crazy. Clearly I was not “releasing” enough before impact because of this. So I switched to a thiner Taylor Made Grip (plus some corrections to my backswing), and problems are totally gone. Now I’m able to hit dead straight, or with a mild draw. The Fujikura shaft is very stable, and I’m not afraid to hit it harder, like with my previous driver. Raw distance is not really important for me (since I really need accuracy to improve my game), but with a 95 to 105 mph swing I’m able to fly the ball to some respectable 260 – 290 yards. I have not played a lot with the weights, because I’m not interested in correcting sidespin, but I would like to try other “neutral” setups in the future, specially 1-6 to decrease backspin (very valuable in windy conditions). One last thing: I also tried this driver with the stock Mizuno shaft, which is lighter, and I was able to hit it a little longer, but not as consistent as with the fuji shaft. This club will be in my bag for a long time (probably until mizuno releases something newer).

Something for the weekend

Something for the weekend

Article by Cheapgolf

When you go for a custom-fitting session, as I did yesterday, at Titleist’s state-of-the art facility at St Ives Golf Club, it’s important to ideally bring your ‘A game’ to the bay (or as near as possible) so the clubs you’re planning to use, can compliment your current swing.

Obviously faults can creep in but PGA-trained fitter Richard Harries gave me a tip he always used in the early part of his amateur career Callaway FT I-Bird Irons helps to square the shoulders at address and reduces the risk of them opening up to the target as you grip the club, forcing a tendency to slice.

He recommends: “As a right-hander I was always encouraged to grip the club with the left hand and place the clubhead behind the ball, with my right hand behind my back.

“This way, the teaching pro watching from down the line, could see the correct position of the inside of my left elbow with my shoulders square to the target. Step two is to then bring in the right hand on to the grip from underneath the shaft and into position.

“TaylorMade Burner Plus Irons helps retain the shoulders in a square position, as opposed to immediately putting the right hand on top of the grip and tending to force the shoulders open.” Hopefully it’s a tip that will work for you, too and immediately reduce the chances of that destructive out-to-in swingpath which can cause the dreaded slice.

Experts said Joe’s swing was ugly – too wide with toes at right angles to his target (instead of slightly splayed) – and that he got himself airborne at impact. But boy was it effective. And he used the massive power and momentum he generated in his follow through to launch the ball consistently long against allcomers, using a Krank Golf Rage drive to deliver a ball speed of 225 mph.

In the final he met 16-year-old American Joe Mazza, with his far more orthodox golf swing, but the youngster was no match for Miller. As the huge stadium crowd held their breath Miller blasted his tee shot down the right centre and it looked to be heading just out of bounds until TaylorMade R7 Draw Irons took a ‘members’ bounce’ left and rolled out to the 410 yard marker.

Mazza could only reply with a drive of 371 yards, enabling Miller to claim the 0,000 winner’s cheque. “I don’t know what to say,” said an almost speechless Miller. “I came together in my last round and got a great bounce to the left to stay in bounds. It is a dream come true.”

Mastering The Three Wood

Mastering The Three Wood

Why – because players who hit a lot of greens in regulation tend to have lower golf handicaps. Those who don’t tend to have higher golf handicaps. The 3-wood is a great club for aggressive players. It’s also a great club for senior players who may have lost some flexibility and power over the years, but can still play well.

The 3-wood is the second longest club in your bag, so it can be hard to hit for some. Hitting a crisp 3-wood from a tight lie is especially challenging, as I tell students attending my golf instruction sessions, no matter how good you are.

You can use the 3-wood in man situations. Since it’s shorter than the driver, it’s easier to control, so you can use it off the tee on tight fairways. Using the 3-wood ton the tee may cost you some distance, but it increases your chances of hitting the fairway.

In fact, some players who can’t hit a driver hit a 3-wood off the tee instead. Players also use the 3-wood to chip with when on the fringe, in a fairway bunker if the bunker’s lip is low, and on long par-3s when there’s a head wind. But the 3-wood is used mostly off the deck on par 5s, when you need a good second shot. Another common use of the 3-wood is on long par 4s, where you need a long second shot to reach the green. Hitting a good 3-wood there can put you on the green in two, something neither a long iron nor a hybrid can do.

If you can master the 3-wood off the deck, you can save a lot of strokes. Sweep The Ball From The Fairway Unlike irons, which require a downward blow, the 3-wood (and other fairway woods) need a sweeping motion that strikes the ball as the clubhead moves parallel to the ground.

Below are five keys to hitting the 3-wood:

1. Keep your weight balanced

2. Position the ball opposite your front heel

3. Keep you head and body behind the ball

4. Pull the club through with your lead hand

5. Extend your arms on the follow-through

To hit the 3-wood off the deck, you must take a wide stance similar to that used for a driver. Position the ball opposite your front heel or in some cases, slightly back from this position, and your weight balanced comfortably on the balls of your feet.

Start your swing on a low path that almost skims the grass to replicate the shallow path you want to take on your downswing. Keep your back shoulder level and pull your right hand (left for left-handers) through with your other hand. Above all, stay behind the ball after impact. Brush through the ball and extend your arms toward the target on the follow-through – something a lot of players I find in my golf lessons must work on.

Not Designed For High Shots

The 3-wood is designed to hit a line drive type of shot. But you don’t need to feel that you have to help it get the ball in the air. The 3-woord has more than enough loft to drive the ball forward for distance. If you need to hit something with more loft, use the 5-wood. It provides less distance but more height than the 3-wood.

In the right circumstances, the 5-wood can be just as effective as the 3-wood. The 3-wood is a great club in the right hands. It’s not as versatile as a hybrid, but it’s more versatile than the driver. Don’t be afraid to hit it. Used wisely, it can set you up for short shots into the green on par 5s or serve as the club of choice off the tee. If you’re serious about improving your game, master the 3-wood. It will shave strokes from your scores and your golf handicap.

Simple Golf Swing can be a popular eBook that teaches easy and powerful principles for how you can swing a golf club. It has helped several golfers lower their scores and straighten their drives. Straightforward as this point may well sound, it really is one which is quickly overlooked.

Many golfers assume that as long as they devote adequate time on the practice range, their score will strengthen. Acquiring some spin on the ball using your golf iron may be a straightforward issue of utilizing ball-to-iron contact and speed of the clubhead. Once you can hit the golf ball and when there exists absolutely no mud-dirt or grass in front of the ball, subsequently you will put some sort of spin on it.

Golf is basically a target based game where you have to hit a ball that is stationed on the ground. This is easier said than done, is what all golfers must have realized by now.

Stop Slicing in Your Golfing

Stop Slicing in Your Golfing

How to stop slicing is your important requirement of golf professionals just by budding amateurs throughout the world. Unfortunately, there are lot of mis-information on the internet and in magazines because to what truly leads to a slice and how to repair it. Let us begin with the legal guidelines of influence and ball journey.

There will be 3 big ball trip guidelines or maybe impact regulations that creates your slice.

1. The deal with is open with impression. This is the generally important thing since it is 4 times much more influential than the course in the golf swing.

2. The route is cutting throughout the ball by outside the house to in. This is helping to create the left to best spin of which is for the golf ball.

3. The angle of approach to the golf ball is too steep. This means that will clubface is coming all the way down too distinct onto the ball. This produces unwanted spin upon the golf ball.

Hence your slice is caused with some sort of deadly combination of most three things. Now you really should understand precisely why the ball reacts the manner it can.

First of all, imagine that will the toe conclusion of the clubhead is pointing to 12 o wall timepiece on the wall clock face. Weaken your grip totally and turn the toe all around until 10:30 on the timepiece confront. Now swing the Ping G15 irons from www.golfleading.com consequently the clubface points kept. Strike a shot. Just simply allow the ball proceed eventually left.

OK, here is where the easy begins. Keeping the grip the similar, how are usually you going to acquire hold of this ball to get directly? You tend to be going to get to swing out to the best a lot more aren’t you? Move for it, swing the way out to best field in a baseball precious stone. My partner and i wager the ball is now hooking. “Great” you express, “I’ve gone by any slice to lift.” Most you get to do from here is slowly but surely alter your grip once again around close to the original position through the course of the up coming 3-4 shots. Continue to keep the path the linked, feeling such as it is swinging out to best field. Within 10 shots you should be hitting the ball fairly right.

If you follow my suggestions, you should have a good time while hitting the ball by your golf clubs at golfleading.com. Do you agree with me?

Hence your slice is caused with some sort of deadly combination of most three things. Now you really should understand precisely why the ball reacts the manner it can.
