Got A Slice That You Cannot Get Rid Of?

Got A Slice That You Cannot Get Rid Of?

Taken in comparison with other sports golf must be one of the most difficult in the world, many people struggle for years to master the skills and never achieve a great level.

You will find that a whole range of tips and tricks have developed over the years and the list keeps growing as more and more new golfers take up the game every day.

The most popular swing fault golfers face today is curing that annoying slice. Imagine how much more accurate you can be if you could cure your slice and start hitting it straight.

Here is a list of 5 little tricks designed to minimize your slice, and with practice should help you to eliminate this annoying habit.

1. The first thing to do is aim to develop a wide and powerful backswing. You have to keep your left arm straight as you take the club backwards, but you must not keep your left arm straight in your follow-through.

If you deliberately try to keep your left arm straight then this can lead to a heavy slice. This is due to your left arm hindering your right arm’s natural rotation. How to adjust? Easy.

Let your left arm bend during your follow-through. Swing a few times only with your left hand, then immediately do a normal swing.

2. A second thing that can cause slicing is because you are letting your club get too far behind you on the backswing, which makes you get outside your target line on your downswing. Without a club, try swinging your left arm, mimicking a full swing.

Your arm has to cross your chest and meet up with your right shoulder. On the downswing, try replicating that motion exactly, only backwards.

3. What the slice boils down to in reality is simply a lack of squaring the club with the ball. So you need a great finish to square the club with the ball correctly. A good drill to try is to take an 8-iron and tee up.

Swing it back to waist height, cock the club up, and then pull towards your left. You should be aiming to hit the ball about 50 yards. Be sure to make your chest and belt buckle face your target.

4. But what if your problem is a bit worse than above? You are hitting big banana slices. You must square the club to the ball earlier. What you should do is draw a yard long straight line in the sand in a bunker.

Take a 5 iron or 6 iron and swing the club above the line. Try to get your divot to start at the line and go forward. Keep trying until you can hit at least 10 shots in a row that start at the line.

5. Often one’s slice can be eliminated, only to come back stronger than ever. Don’t worry; there are tips for this too. Head on over to the driving range. There you can find hills that place the ball slightly above your feet.

With a strong left-handed grip, start hitting balls on this hook lie. This naturally straightens out your swing. Just keep the same grip as you hit balls on a flat surface. Now you can kiss your slice goodbye.

How Can You Develop a Proper Golf Swing? Listen To This Important Advice!

How Can You Develop a Proper Golf Swing? Listen To This Important Advice!

The first question you have to ask yourself is – What is a proper golf swing? All golf swings have the same three main components – the backswing, downswing and the follow through. Sounds simple, but to develop these three components into a strong, powerful swing takes a lot of practice on the course, as well as some training off the course.

In the game of golf, no two people ever have the same golf swing. The way one person swings a golf club may not work for another person, even if they are near in body types. Every golfer has to find the playing style that fits him or her to help them produce the results that they want. Practicing the fundamentals of golf will build a solid foundation upon which you can build upon to create that powerful swing. All the great golf players of the world did this and now it is simple and easy for them to drive a golf ball down the course.

One of the essential things that will affect all three of the golf swing components is your grip. Many golfers feel tension when they address the ball and get ready to execute their golf swing and this results in a tight grip on the club and stiffness in their arms. After the first swing that did not go as they wished it would, the tension builds and starts a vicious cycle that will affect the rest of their swings.

The first thing you can do to help develop a proper golf swing is to relax. Take a deep breath, let it out slowly, and visualize the result of your swing – the ball screaming down the course.

Next, take a firm but not tight grip on the club and think about the golf swing sequence.
The backswing – draw your club back in a smooth arch until the knuckle of your thumb is above your right ear. As you draw back, the club head will trace out a large circle and at the top of your backswing your chest will be pointing away from your target.

The downswing – this is where you swing your golf club down and the club head makes contact with the ball. Let the natural motion of your body carry the club head through the golf balls position down the range toward the target.

The follow through – your body continues and completes the swing arc after contacting the ball. Your finish position is part of your golf swing, so do not stop abruptly and try to keep your motion fluid.

When you start your backswing, take a deep breath as you draw back and release it slowly as you start your downswing. Holding your breath will create stiffness in the upper body that will affect the fluid motion you are trying to develop in your golf swing.

Here are some tips to remember while visualizing your golf swing:

– Keep your left elbow straight during the backswing as the club goes straight up and back.
– Let your left arm roll slightly clockwise at the start of your downswing.
– Your wrists should be at a 90-degree angle when your left arm is parallel to the ground.
– Start your downswing with your lower body, NOT your shoulders.
– As you bring the club down, turn your hips as fast and powerful as you can towards the target.
– At the bottom of the swing arc, your wrists should snap and you will start the follow through.
– Your right arm will swing across your body and end up near your left shoulder.
– Your shoulders will be perpendicular to the target.

At the completion of the follow through portion of your golf swing, your weight should be balanced on your front hip and your back toe should be on the ground. Your hands will come to rest above your left shoulder and with your left knee facing the hole.
Now, going back to the original question What is a proper golf swing? First off there is no simple golf swing as many people try to believe. People who have never played golf will tell you that hitting the golf ball is easy. Just take a club and hit the ball as hard as you can. However, as any golfer will tell you it is never that easy because there are quite a lot of variables and small nuances that go into developing a good golf swing. Therefore, a proper golf swing is one that you can execute repeatedly, and feel good about the results.

To develop your own golf swing, it will take practice and training both on and off the golf course. Take some time to build your body off the course through a golf specific fitness training and conditioning program, and then get onto the course to develop your own proper swing by practicing the fundamentals of golf until they are second nature. Anything you do in life, your overall attitude and expectations of yourself, will ultimately determine your enjoyment of the game. View each golf swing, water hazard, hook and slice as another opportunity to improve. Remember, great players are not born; they work at becoming a great player through training and practice.

Grooving Your Swing

Grooving Your Swing

Article by Jack Moorehouse

The key to hitting longer, straighter drives is squaring your clubface at impact. Anything less this results in either a weak drive or a slice or pull. To ensure you attain the correct impact position, your swing must be mechanically flawless or you must make pre-impact adjustments on the fly.

But making adjustments is not conducive to generating low scores or a low golf handicap. In fact, on-the-fly adjustments tend to do just the opposite, since they create a lot of opportunity for error. The goal then is to hone your swing so it is as technically perfect as you can make—not an easy task. Below are some drills that will help you grove your swing.

Triangle Takeaway DrillThe takeaway may be the most important move in the swing. It encourages good positions throughout the swing, increases your chances of executing a perfect swing, and delivers the clubhead squarely to the ball at impact—the key to hitting longer, straighter drives. This drill teaches you to stay connected during your swing, grove a one-piece takeaway, and employ a fuller body turn, creating added power:

Grip your driver a few inches below the club’s handle. Place the club’s butt end gently against your stomach at a point just above your navel. Now practice making small swings. Concentrate on keeping your arms close to your body with the club touching your navel. A lot of golf teachers use this drill in their golf lessons to help beginners groove the proper takeaway.

Thumbs-Up DrillThe next important phase of the swing after the takeaway is the backswing and the coking of the wrists. A mistake at this point in your swing causes a dramatically negative domino effect, with the club ending up well behind the body on the backswing. That in turn eliminates the chance of achieving square clubface-to-ball contact at impact.

Take your address position without a club. Swing back to chest level as if you had a club in your hands, making certain that your thumbs are angled up toward the sky. Hold that position for a few seconds, so you remember it and physically feel and grove it. Next, swing through to chest level, again making sure that your thumbs point at the sky. Practice this drill several times a day.

In-The-Slot-DrillPlayers who fail to find the right slot in their downswing fail to have a square clubface at impact. Unfortunately, some players release their right wrist (left wrist for left-handers) and/or right elbow (left for left-handers) much too early in the downswing, causing a weak misdirected slice. This drill teaches you to maintain the proper wrist and elbow hinge until you reach the impact zone.

Take your address position and then swing the club to the top. Hold that position briefly. Now start unwinding your hips on the downswing. Simultaneously, drop your elbow down in front of your back hip then freeze this position. Feel the position of your arms but do not uncock the wrists. This move trains your wrist to remain cocked and teaches you to feel the sensation of delaying the hit, without feeling the need to pull on the butt end of the club.

Stop-And-Go DrillOne of the biggest mistakes weekend golfers make is triggering their downswing with either a violent body move or an exaggerated lower body slide. As a result, the player tends to come into the impact area with the clubface wide open and slice the ball severely. This drill teaches you to make a smooth transition and synchronize the downswing move with the rest of your body.

Take your address position and then swing the club back, stopping at the top of your stroke. Be sure at this stage to check that your weight is balanced. Hold that position for a few seconds. Next, complete the swing and trigger a perfect chain reaction by rotating your hips and legs smoothly toward the target. Many teachers use this drill during golf instruction sessions to teach an efficient, on plane move and for promoting good balance during the swing.

The Twenty DrillSome golfers lose power on the downswing because they fail to accelerate their arms during this phase of the swing. As a result, the player hits balls much shorter than they should. The goal with this drill is to teach the player to swing the clubhead powerfully, so that by the time the club makes it to impact it is moving at high speed, enabling you to hit the ball longer with better height and carry.

Use your driver for this drill. Take your address position. Now swing the club back and through to the finish twenty times in a row without stopping. Ideally, you want to remain flat-footed through the impact zone. Some players are able to swing the club all the way through into the finish while remaining flat-footed. Swing as fast as possible. Do 20 swings in the morning and then 20 swings at night.

None of these drills require you to go to the practice range or the course. You can do them in your backyard or in your house or office. Work on the drills as often as you can. They’ll help you achieve lower scores and whittle down that golf handicap.

The large clubhead and deeper box structure makes the broad sweet area of the shaft, forged by soft iron, possible. The balance weight design, by adopting tungsten steel alloy in the middle of its bottom, realizes the much lower center of gravity and higher MOI(moment of inertia). Restrain the sway by hitting, bring forceful flight and extend the flight distance

From Golfers:First of all, let me say this club is very well made. I know this is kind of personal, but the clubhead shape and size is perfect for me… not bulky bullet shaped aerodynamics, nor weird dented crown (like cobra’s or cleveland hi-bore’s). Just very classic. I bought this club at a very fair price (120 US$ used), and the clubhead was in mint condition. At first I was having problems with the grip (golf pride m-21) that felt way too thick for me. I’ve read on forums that many people think the same about this grip (maybe it is designed for thinner butt shafts).

Morover I have small hands, so a tendency to fade the ball increased to a slice that was driving me crazy. Clearly I was not “releasing” enough before impact because of this. So I switched to a thiner Taylor Made Grip (plus some corrections to my backswing), and problems are totally gone. Now I’m able to hit dead straight, or with a mild draw. The Fujikura shaft is very stable, and I’m not afraid to hit it harder, like with my previous driver. Raw distance is not really important for me (since I really need accuracy to improve my game), but with a 95 to 105 mph swing I’m able to fly the ball to some respectable 260 – 290 yards. I have not played a lot with the weights, because I’m not interested in correcting sidespin, but I would like to try other “neutral” setups in the future, specially 1-6 to decrease backspin (very valuable in windy conditions). One last thing: I also tried this driver with the stock Mizuno shaft, which is lighter, and I was able to hit it a little longer, but not as consistent as with the fuji shaft. This club will be in my bag for a long time (probably until mizuno releases something newer).

How to Drive the Golf Ball Properly

How to Drive the Golf Ball Properly

My driver has always been the club that I have been most confident with. In order to drive the golf ball properly, you must first master the fundamentals of the swing.

When setting up to hit a drive, stand with your feet slightly greater than shoulder length apart, in an athletic stance, with your knees bent. The ball should be teed up in alignment with the inside of your left foot (for right handed golfers). Stand so that you do not need to reach too far in order for the clubface to be lined up with the ball. Your back should be slightly bent at an angle relative to your legs.

In order to consistently have a clean tee shot, don’t try to kill the ball! I see so many beginners walk up to the tee box, and swing at the ball with all their might. Usually the ball will end up sharply slicing or hooking, in either case, loosing a considerable amount of distance. Take a nice easy swing, especially on the backswing. Also, bring the club back so that it is parallel to the ground at the top of the backswing. It may even help to take a three quarter length swing to ensure that your club remains on the correct swing path.

Remember that most of your power will come from your torso; not your arms. It is therefore crucial to be conscious of keeping your swing in rhythm with you weight shift. Just like when hitting a baseball, your weight should shift from your back foot to your front foot as contact is being made with the ball.

Also, be sure to follow through completely. Do not try to stop the club right after making contact, as much power will be lost. When finishing, your left (front) food should still be planted onto the ground, and your body should be facing the target.

How To Correct Your Golf Slice

How To Correct Your Golf Slice

Golf can be a frustrating game.  Today we’re going to analyze one of the most frustrating parts of the game: The golf slice. We’ll also show you how you can correct your golf slice.

What’s happening:

Golfers are slamming their clubs on the ground, uttering four-letter words and having a miserable time on the tee-box!  Why?  Because they are slicing the ball!  If this is happening to you, you aren’t alone.  Golf slices are a big problem for most golfers.

What is a slice?

A slice occurs when you hit a shot, and it spins off to the right.  (to the left for lefties).  This often occurs when the club face is open, and the path of the golf club comes from the wrong angle.  This usually happens when your club is on an outside-to-inside path as the club nears the ball.  If your clubface is open while on that outside-to-inside path, the slice can be extreme!

How to correct your golf slice

It’s one thing to know what is happening.  How are you going to fix it?

We have a few quick tests that will help you correct your golf slice.

1.  The Rope Test — when your hands are at the top of your backswing, imagine that you are holding a rope that is attached to a tree straight in front of you.  Now your object is to pull the rope straight down.  As you begin the downswing, you want that same straight down motion.  This will force your right elbow to stay close to your body, and prevent you from going “outside-in” with your swing motion.

2.  The Box test — Get a long, skinny box, and lay it on the ground.  You will be hitting the end of the box with your driver.  Your goal is to make the box go straight in front of you.  If you hit the end of the box and it goes to the right or the left, than your swing is off.  This is a good way to test new enhancements to your swing if you can’t make it to the driving range.

3.  The Tennis test — If you’ve ever tried to put topspin on a tennis ball, you know that you have to turn over the racket as you hit the ball.  This same rolling of the wrists needs to happen when you hit a golf ball.  As you are impacting the ball, make sure that your right hand ends up on top of your left hand.  Just as you want that to happen in tennis to get topspin, your goal in striking a golf shot is to roll the hands.  When you roll the hands over properly, you can be sure that you are closing the face of the club, when will severely decrease the likelihood of a slice.

Hopefully these tests gleaned from years of experience by golf professionals, can help you to correct your golf slice.

I have a number of additional tips that can significantly improve your game. Many people have found these to be extremely helpful in getting rid of the dreaded slice, so please check them out below!
