The Top Ten Golf Balls for Distance

The Top Ten Golf Balls for Distance

Low scores in golf can be achieved by getting the most out of each club in your arsenal. If you can get the most distance out of each shot you will be able to make fewer shots at the beginning, allowing you to have more chances at scoring on the green. One important factor for getting more distance is the golf ball that is used.

Most new players I have seen fall victim to choosing the wrong ball. Most of them believe they “need more spin”, thinking this will help them hold the green on their approach shots. The truth is the majority of these players should focus less on spin and more on distance.

Why is that you ask. Well, for one most amateurs rarely hit the green with their approach shots and are often running the ball up to the green which requires no spin at all. Excessive spin will actually hurt the player during these follow-ups.

Secondly, if the player has too much spin coming off the tee it will make an inadequate shot that much worse. For example, if you tend to slice the ball or fade it, a high spin ball will turn a fade into a slice and a draw into a hook. To compare, if you were using a ball with low spin and much greater distance potential, you will find that your shots are much straighter and longer.

Consider our list of the top ten golf balls for distance below, and find the ball that helps you achieve maximum distance and performance on the green.

1. Taylor Made Penta TP: The Penta does everything well. This ball has everything: great distance, perfect spin, a beautiful launch.

Off the tee, it will provide massive distance while it is perfectly suited for short shots with enough spin to score lights out. My preferred ball before coming across this was the Pro V1x, and after playing with both I have to say you can’t go wrong with either.

2. Titleist Pro V1x: This is my go-to ball, and I love it. This ball is a great all-around ball, and is second only to the Penta. The Pro V1X is a ball designed for the lower handicapper to professionals. Although all levels of players love to say “I use Pro V1X”.

The Pro V1x has both a soft feel to it and great spin and distance potential, making it the perfect ball no matter where on the course you happen to be. I prefer a ball with a lot of spin for some special shots I try around the green, so this ball has a great bite to it. The average to high handicappers usually get tripped up on this aspect because their approach shots do not “run out” like they expect and they come up well short.

Popular or not, I would not recommend this ball to the new or average player. This is the only reason I didn’t rank my ball #1. But, once you know just how this ball will react to your swing, you really can’t go wrong with it.

3. Titleist Pro V1: Titleist made another good ball when it came up with the V1. The only reason this ball landed in the #3 position is its distance is about 1.4 yards shorter than the V1x.
The V1 is better for a player with a high handicap than the V1x as it is more durable and has greater launch potential.

4. Callaway Tour i (z): Drag is reduced on the ball by its hex-shaped dimple design, which helps increase distance. The ball is soft yet durable while providing great distance off the tee and high spin with scoring clubs. If you are a fan of Callaway products you can’t go wrong with this ball, no matter your skill level.

5. Taylor Made Burner: I was very happy with this ball when I tried it out over the summer. This ball achieves amazing distance with its low drag characteristics and low-compression core.

It was comparable to the Pro V1x in nearly all areas that count.

6. Callaway HX Hot Bite: This ball sports the same hex dimple design as the Tour i (z), giving it great distance potential due to its low drag characteristics. It is a favorite amongst players of all levels but especially with those who swing their clubs at average speed.

7. Bridgestone e6: I have friends who swear by the e6 and they say they prefer it over the Titleist ProV’s. The ball is designed with an anti-spin layer, giving the ball great distance and perfectly level flight.

8. Srixon Z-STAR: I was not initially impressed with the hype surrounding this ball. After trying it out I’m willing to admit that it lives up to it. I played awful that day, so I am sure it skewed my review, but overall not bad.

The average player will benefit from the low compression core on the Z-STAR, which gives the ball greater speed and distance.

9. Callaway Big Bertha Diablo: This ball just keeps going! The ball has very little spin, giving it amazing distance off the tee. This ball cannot be matched if distance is all you are looking for.

10. Titleist DT SoLo: This golf balls compression statistics are extremely friendly to players with low swing speeds providing great distance for the low-to-average swing speed golfer.

Many factors determine what golf ball is good fit for an individual player. For example, golf balls compression statistics is an important factor. This is how much club head is required to activate the ball’s specific layer, typically the core for distance, in order to get the desired characteristics. The only way to determine which of these balls is best for you is to get out there and try them!

Take the time to play a round or two on a course you know in order to compare the shots. You won’t get an accurate idea of how good the ball is for you unless you do this.
Now, get these balls and get to it! You now have a great excuse to play a lot more golf.

How to Correct a Golf Slice – Cure My Slice is the Cry of Golfers Worldwide

How to Correct a Golf Slice – Cure My Slice is the Cry of Golfers Worldwide

Article by Terry Gorry

In this article I am going to give you 2 quick tips as to how to correct a golf slice. They are aimed at the beginner golfer who has not experienced the pleasure of seeing their ball bend from right to left. But who recognises the need for more distance…right through the bag.

1. Release

To correct a golf slice and hit a draw you need a full and free release of the club through impact. This hand action, which is second nature to the professionals who have eaten their meals on the practice tee for years, involves letting the right hand and forearm release freely over the left through impact.

To get a good feeling for this hold the club up at waist height, with no ball to distract you, and swing back and forth slowly watching the opening and closing of the clubhead through the hitting area as you do so.

Then speed it up and experiment with speeding up and releasing earlier so that when you tee up your ball your clubhead will be closing through impact..thereby promoting a draw.

2. In to out Swing

To rid yourself of a slice you need to train and in to square to in path. But with a slice you are already swinging out to in in all likelihood so you need to exaggerate this cure by practicing swinging in to out.

To do this you can place a long tee in front of your ball but you must place it about 4/6 inches ahead and to the right of the ball-target line.

Then try to hit this tee in your follow through..it may be difficult at first but you will be swinging from in to out and giving yourself a great opportunity to hit a draw.

The Right Catfish Hooks to Increase Your Success

The Right Catfish Hooks to Increase Your Success

Knowing how to select the right catfish hooks for the type of catfish you want to catch is very important. Fishing for a 2lb channel is vastly different than fishing for a 50lb blue or flathead catfish. The sizes I use range from 2 to 2/0 in most waters but there are times when you can use larger hooks up to 6/0 effectively.

I usually fish with a 2/0 baitholder hook as I can get both table fare and some good sized cats without having to worry about the hook failing. When I am at a location, such as below a dam, that has proven to produce monster cats consistently I will use a 4/0 hook.

The way I select the right catfish hook is easy. In waters where I am unsure of what to use I always start with a 1/0 baitholder hook. If your drag is set properly this hook is sturdy enough to bring in the big catfish and small enough to provide good table fare.

When I am trying to make sure I have a decent catch to take home for dinner I often switch to a smaller hook. Not many catfish anglers recommend this but I have had great success doing so. For instance, if I am having a problem with the catfish taking my bait, running with it for a short distance and then just simply dropping the bait I will switch to a #2 baitholder. Of course it is not as effective for big fish but it does put food on the table.

When it comes to winter fishing for catfish, you really can get better results using smaller hooks too. Even when you are trying to catch big fish. Especially in the winter, when the water is cold and calm, the catfish tend to be finicky, and you have to try to get them out of the water without spooking them.

In the springtime, when the fish are not so finicky, you can move up to some bigger hooks like a 4/0 baitholder hook. These are particularly good when there are flood water kinds of conditions present. During flood conditions, the fish tend to get very aggressive, and they really grab on to basically whatever is out there. You will miss some fish you could catch if you use the smaller hooks in flood conditions.

No matter what size or type hook you prefer to use you should always have an assortment on hand so that you can adapt to the waters or conditions you are fishing in. Go often enough and you will work out your own system and preferences for choosing the right catfish hooks.

Some Golf Equipment Every Beginner Will Need

Some Golf Equipment Every Beginner Will Need

Article by Laura Diamond

Especially when you first start golfing, it is very easy to become overwhelmed by the number of options available in golf equipment. You will find many pieces of equipment advertised as perfect for new golfers but many fall short of actually being ideal for golfers. Picking the right pieces of equipment that will help you build a solid foundation for your golf game will leave you better off than spending money on equipment that won’t help you much with your game.

The first piece of equipment you should buy is a nice driver. The first thing you need to know is that there are some “specialty” drivers out there that aren’t exactly PGA sanctioned. Depending on where you are and what your goals as a golfer may be this might not be a problem for you. Everyone has his or her own needs when it comes to driver. Normally, drivers that have flexible shafts grant greater distance yet a lower amount of control. If you have problems with hooks, slices, or rogue balls you might prefer sacrificing distance for added control by using a steel shafted driver. You should also take a bit of time to investigate the most comfortable shaft length for you to use prior to making your purchase too. This will take some trying out to discover the greatest length, although it will be time spent well when it comes to not having as much back pain after 18-holes.

Another important thing to have is ball markers. This equipment is especially important to have when playing in a group. These markers help you identify the place where your ball landed and came to a stop on the green without interfering with the play of the other people playing the hole with you. Golf etiquette dictates that the person farthest from the hole plays first. The play of the people before you could be disrupted by your ball if a marker is not used. These inexpensive markers are necessary for a good game when playing with a group.

Protective eyewear is the final investment beginners need to make. This often gets overlooked as being unimportant when beginners start purchasing golf equipment. Golf is primarily played outside in the elements, however. Not protecting your eyes from the sun can result in serious damage. Additionally, it will be much easier to see where your ball is going as well as where you want it to go if you aren’t constantly shielding your eyes from the sun.

You’ll notice a plethora of golf equipment items which declare themselves as the most excellent for beginners. But, when you get these pieces of equipment to begin with you’ll find that there really is little else you need in order to learn the basics of the game. As your skills progress, you can begin adding new pieces to your inventory for greater diversity and potential in your golf game.

Improve Your Game-Your Golf Ball Tells You How

Improve Your Game-Your Golf Ball Tells You How

Article by Tricia Deed

Improve Your Game-Your Golf Ball Tells You How

Hello…hello…hello; hey you, look down. I am your golf ball trying to get your attention. Would you like to know how I can improve your game?

I have been watching you play an average game of golf. Nonetheless, I know you want to improve your game and as your golf ball I will tell you how. From my point of view the correct type of ball does matter.

Look over there. Do you see those two young children learning how to play golf?

The girl has the pink balls and the boy is playing with the white colored balls. Those balls are designed specifically for children and they fly at about 70 miles per our. The balls of the children also have dimples. The purpose of the dimples allows the ball to fly faster in the air, smoother skinned balls move slower.

As you well know golf is a game of accuracy and consistency. One does not play just to make distance shots. I noticed the other day that you were at the driving range. A one piece ball is good to use as it is a softer ball and not designed for distance. The one piece ball is a standard. It has been around a long time, and it does great for practicing.

Another practice ball is the water ball. Remember all those golf balls that you hit into the lake along with many other golfers? Well, every now and then they are fished out of the lake, cleaned up and polished and sold cheap. These are great for novices up to intermediate level to practice or to play a game of golf. Because of water damage the balls will short change you on the distance shot.

Most golfers play with a two piece design. It has a rubber core center and one outer wrap of plastic or rubber. This design is excellent for men, women, and children. The ball will shoot straighter, and it has less spin so when you hit a slice or a hook it does not look too bad. The ball is designed for durability and distance.

As an advanced golfer you would probably prefer a ball that has been wrapped three times or a hybrid design. This ball has a rubber core, covered by a layer of plastic or rubber and then a third layer wrap. It is hard in consistency and will allow for better performance. It will travel longer distances, and has less spin in the hands of a golfer with good control.

The professionals play with design having been wrapped three or possibly four times to get the high swing speed and the drop and stop action.

In case you should ask, if the beginner, intermediate, or an advanced player chooses to play with a golf ball used by professional golfers you will get the distance, however, if you lack control the golf ball will slice and hook badly or extremely.

What is the speed of a golf ball in flight?

• Beginners 90 to 100 miles per hour• Intermediate 100 to 110 miles per hour• Advanced and professionals 110 plus miles per hour.

There are many golf balls which are imprinted or have logos as companies and teams prefer the advertising. You may want a special imprint for a birthday, an anniversary, or for identity.

Balls that have been factory overproduced or have a cosmetic imperfection are excellent. These will cost you less and they work just as well as full retail balls. If the store clerk can tell you the brand name, this will give you an opportunity to evaluate the differences among brand names. Brand name selection is a personal choice.

Here is a quick aid to choose golf balls. Twelve dollars per dozen is great for beginners and novices. Thirty dollars a dozen are preferred by intermediate level and the forty-five dollars or more for a dozen is for the advanced or professionals.

Sample different models and choose what works best for you.

As a golf ball, I am looking at your club face which is about to hit me square. I see you have the correct swing. This hit will be straight, will go a long distance, and I can see me dropping into the hole. This will be the perfect shot with the perfect golf swing and the right ball. Congratulations.

Golf Secret – Over The Top Golf Swing

Golf Secret – Over The Top Golf Swing

One of the most frustrating strokes that a golfer, whether an amateur or a professional one, could make is an over the top golf swing. This kind of swing would often result in slicing or pull hooking the golf ball. This often results when a golfer has been so eager to hit the ball that they end up having their hands get ahead of their lower body.

Click Here For Golf Secret Instant Access Now!

Here are two steps that could help you remove this frustrating stroke from your repertoire:

1. You must keep in mind that your golf swing is a series of events. In this regard, in order to stop you from doing an over the top swing, you should pay attention in doing your backswing correctly. You must try to keep your club low and outside of your hands when starting your backswing. It is also important that you keep your arms and body separated while doing your backswing to be able to hit the ball square and avoid slicing it.

2. You must also let gravity help you with your swing. What I mean by this is that when you are able to get to the top of your swing, you should gently shift your hips to the left and let your arms fall down in a natural motion. This will enable you hit the ball without producing it to spin, making your shots straighter and longer.

Finally, the only thing left for you to do is to practice these two steps frequently. Repetitive practice helps your body remember the motion making your swing more natural and smooth. As you can see, avoiding an over the top golf swing is not that difficult once you know what causes it and how to correct it. With these two easy steps, you could now play well on the course with longer and straighter shots with every stroke you make.

How To Improve Your Golf Swing-Neutralise Your Golf Grip

How To Improve Your Golf Swing-Neutralise Your Golf Grip

One way to improve your golf swing is to neutralise your golf grip.Firstly you will only hook the golf ball if you swing the club face closed at impact. The majority of golfers that hook the ball display a ‘strong grip’,where the hands are too far to the right of the handle.Golfers will swing the club too much from the inside of the line, with the hands, arms and body struggling to hold the clubface open at impact.Weakening the grip will help stop the club face closing on impact.
Secondly,a common fault with a lot of golfers is the stance. The width of stance will vary slightly
according to the golf club you are using. As a general guideline,i recommend that the stance for the 5-iron should correspond to the width of your shoulders.Check your stance regularly when you practise.A wide stance will give you good stability but less mobility.A narrow stance will give you more mobility but less stability.
Thirdly, getting your posture right will make playing the game easier. The reason for this is that your posture controls the balance points in your swing, and good balance is key in helping you develop your game.
Start by placing your thumbs on your hip joints, this is to where you bend from the hip joint.
From there lean forward putting your weight on the front of your feet. Finally flex your knees, feeling the pressure on your thighs.Hope this helps, happy golfing.

How to Draw the Golf Ball

How to Draw the Golf Ball

Article by Christopher J. Johnson

The draw shot off the tee is a very desirable ball flight to have. It penetrates the wind much better than a fade and rolls out farther in the fairway after it comes down. It can be a tough shot to control though. The draw can turn into a hook very easily. Most courses favor people who slice the ball, since that is the most common swing fault of the average player. That means that most courses are more open to the right and much more penalizing when you hit it left.

The draw shot produces top spin on the ball. It is a right to left ball flight for right handed people and a left to right ball flight for left handed people.

The following instructions are for a right handed player.

Line up the face of the club with your target. Line up your feet, hips and shoulders to the right of your target. This closes the face of the club in relation to your body. Now just swing like you normally would. The closed clubface will cause the ball to move right to left. Since you set your body up to the right, the ball will start to the right and turn back towards the target.

There are other ways to create a draw. Basically you want your club to take an inside to outside path in relation to the ball. I believe this way to be the easiest since you can take your normal swing once you have adjusted your stance. Trying to adjust your swing can be much more difficult.

I would like to offer a word of advice. Be sure to try this technique out at the range a few times before using it on the course. If you over do it, a nasty hook could be the result, which will most likely put you in the water or the woods. We are trying to avoid penalty strokes, not create them right?

So there you go. With a little practice, you will be curving the ball around that dogleg in no time. Oh, one other thing. Golf is a game so remember to HAVE FUN!
