A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege to play Fazio Canyons at Barton Creek Resort in Austin Texas. I was attending the Texas Public Finance Conference. This was the coldest round of golf that I have ever played. The temperature never got above 34 degrees. Yes in Austin, Texas all be it in February but still the winter average is 55.

Fazio Canyons features 7,161 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72 . The course rating is 75.4 and it has a slope rating of 138. Designed by Thomas Fazio, ASGCA, the Fazio Canyons golf course opened in 1999. The course runs through the hill country of west central Texas. The views of the multi-million dollar mansion that run along the course are simply unbelievable. The greens are unforgiving and tricky to read.

We had just had our third winter storm in Oklahoma the first of February. I had been checking the forecast in Austin for a week to see just how much warmer it would be there. At 6:00 am I checked my Iphone and The Weather Channel showed a forecast of 55 and partly sunny. Compared to the forecast in Norman, OK of 33 and chance of snow, I was excited for warmer weather and a day on the course. Read More→
